Privacy Advocates Resist REAL ID Act-Part 1

If the government of the United States passed a law for security purposes that every American had to have a personal ID number tattooed on his or her hand, without which that person would not be permitted to buy or sell, would you accept it?I’m sure most of you are saying,“No way! Not over my dead body!”Yet, such a law has already been passed with one minor difference-which really is no difference. You won’t have the number tattooed on your hand. You only have to have the number on a card in your hand. The bottom line is you will have the number in your hand or you will not be able to buy or sell. The new law requires every American to have a national ID card without which you will be unable to hold a job, and you will not be able to have a bank account. With no job and no bank account, how much buying and selling will you be able to do?Obviously, none! Now allow me to ask the question once again. Will you accept a number in your hand in order to keep your job or have a bank account?Think about it very carefully. Each of us will have to answer this question between now and May 11, 2008 when the Real ID Act is scheduled for implementation. So…what’s it matter anyway? The prophecy found in Revelation 13:15-18 foretells that a time will come when every person on earth will be forced to have a number in the hand or in the forehead, or else the individual will not be able to buy or sell.Has this sunk in yet? The prophecy is 2,000 years old, but it is happening now! I’m not saying that it might happen. I’m saying that the law is already passed by Congress and signed by our president. We are watching the implementation in process now! What’s behind this national ID?The rationale being given for the creation of a national ID is to guard against the threat of terrorism. However, the global government crowd wanted a national ID long before terrorism reared its ugly head.Twenty-seven years ago in its September 15, 1980 edition, the U.S. News & World Report carried an editorial entitled “A National Identity Card” by Editor Marvin Stone. In the editorial, Stone argued that a national ID was needed to thwart illegal immigration, protecting American jobs from illegal immigrants. In spite of what Homeland Security is saying, the national ID is not really a security issue. It’s all about control. You can’t control a population unless you issue each of them a number. Then you must force them to use that number for employment, travel, and banking. This accomplished, you can force compliance to any mandate issued by the government since invalidation of the person’s number renders the individual a non-person. Economic control means controlling a person’s ability to exist. This is exactly what the prophecy says will happen during the time just ahead called the great tribulation. And this is exactly what will happen when the national ID is fully implemented...

BIG BROTHER WATCH:Oregon Implements Facial Recognition on Drivers Licenses

Oregon officials are creating a biometric database of every motorist in the state that will ease a future transition to automated tracking and identification of residents.By July 2008, the state DMV plans to meet a deadline set by the legislature in completing the process of using facial recognition software to scan all existing driver
photographs.Oregon has been at the forefront of exploring surveillance technology.State law already allows both red light cameras and speed cameras to photograph the face of drivers.Oregon Department of Transportation experiments with per-mile taxation could employ enforcement cameras that photograph vehicles and drivers, allowing officials to use the new software to track not only the movements of passing vehicles but record the identity of their drivers and passengers. For now, however, the program is limited to use by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).The agency now requires anyone applying for a new driver's license to be scanned by a high-resolution digital cameras. The computer software is designed to throw up an anti-fraud red flag if a new applicant has a face similar to any other face in the database listed under a different name.In this case,"DMV will not issue a permanent card to the customer and will provide the information for police to investigate as a potential case of fraud," according to the DMV website.DMV officials insist that the change is not related to the federal REAL ID Act designed to implement a national identity card, but statements from officials involved in the program suggest otherwise.Last July, Oregon awarded Digimarc Corporation the contract to provide facial recognition software and equipment following passage of state Senate Bill 640 in 2005."With these important enhancements,Oregon becomes a model for other states that are fighting fraud and associated criminal activity and positions the state to comply with the requirements of the REAL ID Act," Digimarc CEO Bruce Davis said in a statement last year.

Listen to Earth, Pope says in environmental plea

LORENZAGO DI CADORE,Italy-Pope Benedict said the human race must listen to "the voice of the Earth" or risk destroying its very existence. The Pope, speaking as he was concluding his holiday in northern Italy, also said that while there is much scientific proof to support evolution, the theory could not exclude a role by God."We all see that today man can destroy the foundation of his existence, his Earth,"he said in a closed door meeting with 400 priests on Tuesday.A full transcript of the two-hour event was issued on Wednesday. The setting of the appeal was appropriate.Benedict is wrapping up a three-week private holiday in the majestic mountains of northern Italy where residents are alarmed by the prospect of climate change that can alter their way of life."We cannot simply do what we want with this Earth of ours, with what has been entrusted to us," said the Pope, who has been spending his time reading and walking in the scenic landscape bordering Austria.
World religions have shown a growing interest in the
environment, particularly the ramifications of climate change.
The Pope, leader of some 1.1 billion Roman Catholics worldwide, said:"We must respect the interior laws of creation,of this Earth,to learn these laws and obey them if we want to survive.""This obedience to the voice of the Earth is more important for our future happiness ... than the desires of the moment. Our Earth is talking to us and we must listen to it and decipher its message if we want to survive," he said....

UN rejects Taiwan admission application

Taipei-The United Nations has rejected Taiwan's application to become a member of the world body, citing its adherence to the "one China" policy and its recognition of the Chinese government in Beijing. The application was returned by the U.N.Office of Legal Affairs citing a 1971 resolution that switched recognition from Taipei to Beijing as China's sole lawful representative to the world body.In Taipei,Foreign Ministry spokesman David Wang deplored the U.N.'s decision, describing it as a political decision”.“The 1971 resolution should be reviewed,he says,as it fails to address the question of the right of representation and participation by the Taiwanese people”.
The “one China” policy affirms that Taiwan and China belong have the same national identity.Following the 1949 civil war Taiwan held its seat in the UN,representing China;until in 1971 it was excluded in favour of Beijing. On July 19, the self-ruled island applied to join the United Nations as Taiwan-a departure from 14 previous post-1971 applications as the Republic of China. The bid reflected the policies of President Chen Shui-bian,who favours making the island's de facto independence permanent. Chen last month announced plans for a referendum that would support the government's bid to enter the U.N. Today, presidential spokesman David Lee said the referendum plans will not be affected by the U.N.'s decision.Taiwan's U.N. bid was roundly condemned by China, and also opposed by the United States, which saw it as an effort to change the fragile status quo that has governed relations among the three.Wang Guangya,China's ambassador to the world body described the Taiwan’s move as “extremely ridiculous, and it is a blatant move toward Taiwan independence”.China claims that Taiwan is part of its territory, and although it is forced to tolerate the current situation,it takes every opportunity to impede the Island’s initiatives for independence.

Muslims to write 'Israelites' out of Hebrew version of Koran

Muslim translators as Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Center for the Printing of the Holy Koran intend to write “Israelites” out of a new Hebrew version of Islam's sacred text.Dr.Mohammed bin Salim al Awfi, director of the King Fahd Center, told the London-based Arabic daily Asharq Al-Awsat that his work often requires adjustments to the literal translation of the text in order to remain faithful to the true meaning of the Koran and to avoid propagating narratives that“cannot be confirmed.”One such “unconfirmed” narrative is the Koran's reference to Jews as “Israelites.”Al Awfi's refusal to accept the Koran's confirmation that the Jews are indeed the rightful inhabitants of the biblical Land of Israel is an apparent violation of the Muslim belief that the Koran is infallible.

Two important cases for Israeli Messianics

Messianic legal analysis
"The decisions revealed the opinion of the Israeli government towards the Messianic Jewish community, and exposed the passive and non-political attitude of the Messianic community."
Two very important court decisions have recently been issued in Israel,in which several very positive results emerged regarding the depicted opinion of the Israeli government towards the Messianic Jewish community.Furthermore, these court decisions expose the passive and non-political attitude which is prominent in the Messianic community and which indicates that this
community is a minority group that is entitled to receive the court's protection. In both these court decisions, the Israeli governmental institutions operated in favour of the Messianic community and in response, different fundamental religious groups lodged a petition against these standard governmental decisions. In the first court decision, the State's advocacy and the local committee for planning and building stood beside the
Messianic community and against the fundamental religious groups. Moreover,in the second court decision the State’s advocacy and the general police
commander stood beside the Messianic community and against the fundamental religious groups and their advocates. The passiveness of the community stands out, especially and among other reasons, because in these court decisions there is no mention of the fact that this
community consists of Messianic Jews and/or Jews who believe in Yeshua. In the first court decision the community is defined as the“Messianic Community”and in the second court decision the community is defined as the“Yeshuim".The reason that the State's advocacy stood beside the Messianic community is derived from the acts of fundamental religious organizations that had lodged a petition against ordinary decisions made by different governmental bodies,as they treated the Messianic community duly as equal citizens in a democratic and pluralistic country...

U.S. pledges to increase its military aid to Israel

The U.S. is prepared to increase military aid to Israel in order to ease the defense establishment's concerns over a proposed American weapons sale to Saudi Arabia, diplomatic sources in Jerusalem told Haaretz over the weekend, thereby confirming reports in the U.S. media. According to the New York Times and the Washington Post, the proposed package of advanced weaponry for Saudi Arabia is expected to eventually total $20 billion. It reportedly includes advanced satellite-guided bombs, upgrades to its fighter jets and new naval vessels. It has reportedly raised concerns in Israel and among its supporters in Congress.Senior officials who described the package on Friday said they believed the administration had resolved those concerns,in part by promising Israel $30.4 billion in military aid over the next decade,a significant increase over what Israel has received in the past 10 years....

Gulf 'Dead Zone' Still 3rd Largest

NEW ORLEANS-The oxygen-poor "dead zone" off the Louisiana and Texas coasts isn't quite as big as predicted this year, but it is still the third-largest ever mapped,a scientist said Saturday.
Crabs, eels and other creatures usually found on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico are swimming in crowds on the surface because there is too little oxygen in their usual habitat, said Nancy Rabalais, chief scientist for northern Gulf hypoxia studies."We very often see swarms of crabs, mostly blue crabs and their close relatives, swimming at the surface when the oxygen is low,"she wrote in an e-mail from a research ship as it returned to Cocodrie from its annual measurement trip.Eels, which live in sediments 60 to 70 feet below the water surface, are an even less common sight, she said. The 7,900-square-mile area with almost no oxygen,a condition called hypoxia,is about the size of Connecticut and Delaware together. The Louisiana-Texas dead zone is the world's second-largest hypoxic area, she said. This year's is about 7.5 percent smaller than what Eugene Turner,Rabalais' husband and a professor of oceanography and coastal sciences at Louisiana State University, had predicted, judging by nitrogen content in the Mississippi River watershed. He had predicted it would be about 8,540 square miles, which would have made it the largest measured in at least 22 years.More storms than normal may have reduced hypoxia by keeping the waters roiled, Rabalais said.Hypoxia occurs when fresh water pouring in from the Mississippi River floats above the heavier salt water in the Gulf.Algae die and fall to the bottom, where their decay uses oxygen faster than it is brought down from the surface.Eventually, the lower layer holds too little oxygen for fish and other aquatic life.Nitrogen, rom sources including fertilizer, erosion and sewage, speeds up the process by feeding algae. The dead zone was larger in 2002 and 2001,
when it covered 8,500 and 8,006 square miles respectively, and was almost as big in 1999. Scientists want to reduce the zone to about 2,500 square miles.

Coalition of Evangelicals Voices Support for Palestinian State

In recent years, conservative evangelicals who claim a Biblical mandate to protect Israel have built a bulwark of support for the Jewish nation, sending donations, denouncing its critics and urging it not to evacuate settlements or forfeit territory. Now more than 30 evangelical leaders are stepping forward to say these efforts have given the wrong impression about the stance of many,if not most,American evangelicals. On Friday, these leaders sent a letter to President Bush saying that both Israelis and Palestinians have“legitimate rights stretching back for millennia to the lands of
Israel/Palestine,”and that they support the creation of a Palestinian state“that includes the vast majority of the West Bank.”They say that being a friend to Jews and to Israel “does not mean withholding criticism when it is warranted.”The letter adds,“Both Israelis and Palestinians have committed violence and injustice against each other.”The letter is signed by 34 evangelical leaders, many of whom lead denominations,Christian charities, ministry organizations, seminaries and universities. They include Gary M. Benedict, president of The Christian and Missionary Alliance,a denomination of 2,000 churches;Richard J. Mouw, president of Fuller Theological Seminary;Gordon MacDonald, chairman of World Relief;Richard E. Stearns, president of World Vision;David Neff, editor of Christianity Today;and Berten A. Waggoner, national director and president of The Vineyard USA,an association of 630 churches in the United States.“This group is in no way anti-Israel,and we make it very clear we’re committed to the security of Israel,”
said Ronald J. Sider, president of Evangelicals for Social Action, which often takes liberal positions on issues.“But we want a solution that is viable.Obviously there would have to be compromises.” They are clearly aiming their message not just at President Bush, but at the Muslim world and policy makers in the State Department.Mr. Sider said he and three other evangelical leaders got the idea for the letter in February at the U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha,Qatar, where they met Muslim and American diplomats who were shocked to discover the existence of American evangelicals who favored a Palestinian state.Mr. Sider says they will translate the letter into Arabic and distribute it in the Middle East and Europe.“We think it’s crucial that the Muslim world realize that there are evangelical Christians in the U.S. in large numbers that want a fair solution,”Mr. Sider said.In the last year and half, liberal and moderate evangelicals have initiated two other efforts that demonstrated fissures in the evangelical movement.Last year, they parted with the conservative flank by campaigning against climate change and global warming. This year, they denounced the use of torture in the fight against terrorism. Some of the participants in those campaigns also signed this letter. The Rev. Joel C. Hunter, senior pastor of Northland Church in Longwood, Fla.,said, “There is a part of the evangelical family which is what I call Christian Zionists, who are just so staunchly pro-Israel that Israel and their side can do nowrong, and it’s almost anti-Biblical to criticize Israel for anything. But there are many more evangelicals who are really open and seek justice for both parties.”The loudest and best-organized voices in the evangelical movement have been sending a very different message:that the Palestinians have no legitimate claim to the land. The Rev. John Hagee, who founded Christians United for Israel, was informed of the letter and read most of it.He responded:“Bible-believing evangelicals will scoff at that message.“Christians United for Israel is opposed to America pressuring Israel to give up more land to anyone for any reason. What has the policy of appeasement ever
produced for Israel that was beneficial?”Mr.Hagee said.“God gave to Abraham,Isaac and Jacob a covenant in the Book of Genesis for the land of Israel that is eternal and unbreakable, and that covenant is still intact,”he said.“The Palestinian people have never owned the land of Israel,
never existed as an autonomous society. There is no Palestinian language. There is no Palestinian currency. And to say that Palestinians have a right to that land historically is an historical fraud.” There is a crucial theological difference between Mr. Hagee’s views on Israel and those expressed by the letter writers, said Timothy P. Weber,a church historian, former seminary president and the author of “On the Road to Armageddon:How Evangelicals Became Israel’s Best Friend.”Mr. Hagee and others are dispensationalists,Mr. Weber said, who interpret the Bible as predicting that in order for Christ to return, the Jews must gather in Israel, the third temple must be built in Jerusalem and the Battle of Armageddon must be fought.Mr. Weber said, “The dispensationalists have parlayed what is a distinctly minority position theologically within evangelicalism into a major political voice.”
PS:Bible believing christians believe what the Bible says.Nothing has been achieved in the past dealing with palestinians...This foolish letter and it's translation in arabic is gonna be another thing more by which muslims will mock at christians as a whole in America...What a shame...That the Church on earth is believing whatever it want s to believe...By the way this letter doesn't speak for the vast majority of true christians in America. How can somebody be praying for Israel when in the other hand is encouraging more hatred and death and dividing of their land!!!

Lost in translation

If you've ever traveled overseas, you know how challenging it can be to scale the language and cultural barriers in many countries. American corporations trying to break into international markets sometimes have had a very difficult time communicating uniquely American ideas and colloquialisms. The problem is that something often gets lost in the translation. In Italy, for example,a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water. When Coca-Cola was introduced in China,it was first rendered as "Ke-kou-ke-la."Unfortunately,it wasn't until after thousands of signs had been printed the company discovered the phrase means,"Bite the wax tadpole,"or"Female horse stuffed with wax,"depending on the dialect. In Taiwan, the translation of the Pepsi slogan,"Come alive with the Pepsi Generation,"
translated,"Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead."Quite a promising product there! When General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, the company apparently was unaware that in Spanish,"No va" means,"It won't go."In the same way, when Jesus spoke to his disciples about his impending death and resurrection,it seemed to go right over their heads. They just didn't get it.Jesus spoke in plain and simple terms, yet his message didn't penetrate their minds or hearts. As good Jews, they believed the Messiah was coming as Scripture had promised, but they didn't read their Bibles carefully enough. They rightly understood that when the Messiah came He would rule the earth in righteousness, but they also should have seen that the Hebrew prophets foretold the fact the Messiah would also suffer. As they thought about the Messiah of Israel, they saw the glory, but not the suffering. They saw the crown, but not the cross. When Jesus went to his death, they must have thought He had let them down. And for many, perception is often reality.Perhaps you feel that way right now as well.
Perhaps you feel as though God has somehow let you down, that he hasn't kept his promises. But Jesus hadn't failed the disciples;they had failed to see what he had come to do.The same is true of us when it seems as though God has failed us.Perhaps we need a new understanding of his ways....

JIHAD WATCH:Al-Qa'eda divided over drive to oust Musharraf

A deep split has emerged within al-Qa'eda over the wisdom of the terror network's drive to overthrow and kill Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf, according to radical Pakistani Islamists allied to the terror network.Osama bin Laden's deputy,Ayman alZawahiri, has ordered the series of retaliatory attacks on Pakistani targets that have followed the storming of the Red Mosque,an extremist stronghold in Islamabad,by Gen Musharraf's troops this month. In the latest atrocity,13 people, mostly policemen, were killed and 50 injured in a suicide attack near the mosque on Friday as the authorities tried to re-open the compound.Nearly 200 people have now died in revenge attacks and bombings. But some senior figures within al-Qa'eda are alarmed that al-Zawahiri's mission to topple and kill Gen Musharraf will provoke a Pakistani military backlash that could jeopardise their safe havens in the mountainous tribal areas on the Afghan border.A rival so-called "Libyan faction" led by Abu Yahya al-Libi,who escaped from the US Bagram base near Kabul in 2005,apparently suspects that al-Zawahiri,an Egyptian-born doctor,is trying to position himself as bin Laden's heir presumptive with his personal crusade.
Bin Laden himself is believed to be in hiding, fearful of his whereabouts being discovered.US intelligence operatives closely involved in the hunt for bin Laden told The Sunday Telegraph that they had received reports of al-Qa'eda rifts from senior sources within the Pakistani jihadist community....

BIG BROTHER WATCH:Report warns against too many 'Net rules

VIENNA,Austria-Kazakhstan and Georgia are among countries imposing excessive restrictions on how people use the Internet,a new report says, warning that regulations are having a chilling effect on freedom of expression."Governing the Internet,"issued Thursday by the 56-nation Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, called the online policing"a bitter reminder of the ease with which some regimes-democracies and
dictatorships alike-seek to suppress speech that they disapprove of,dislike,or simply fear.""Speaking out has never been easier than on the Web.Yet at the same time we are witnessing the spread of Internet censorship,"the report said.Miklos Haraszti, who heads the OSCE's media freedom office, said about two dozen countries practice censorship, and others have adopted needlessly restrictive legislation and government policy.Among those are Malaysia, where a government official said this week that laws would be drafted for bloggers and authorities would not hesitate to prosecute those deemed to have insulted Islam.Haraszti cited separate research by the OpenNet Initiative,a trans-Atlantic group that tracks Internet filtering and surveillance, which pointed to questionable online restrictions in Belarus,China,Hong Kong,Sudan,Tunisia,Uzbekistan and elsewhere. The OSCE report says Kazakhstan's efforts to rein in Internet journalism in the name of national security is reminiscent of Soviet-era"spy mania,"and it says Georgian law contains numerous provisions curbing freedom of expression online.Web sites, blogs and personal pages all are subject to criminal as well as civil prosecution in Kazakhstan, and the country's information minister,
Yermukhamet Yertysbayev, has vowed to purge Kazakh sites of "dirt" and "lies.""Those who think it is impossible to control the Internet can continue living in a world of illusions,"
Yertysbayev told the Vremya newspaper in a recent interview. On Thursday,in a speech at OSCE headquarters in Vienna,Yertysbayev insisted his country was committed to democracy and the creation of what he called an"e-government"that would expand Internet access and make "our information sphere more open and our media more free..."

Scientists breed world’s first mentally ill mouse

SCIENTISTS have created the world’s first schizophrenic mice in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the illness. It is believed to be the first time an animal has been genetically engineered to have a mental illness.Until now they have been bred only for research into physical conditions such as heart disease. It will allow researchers to study the disease and develop treatments using a limitless supply of laboratory animals.Animal rights campaigners have condemned the research, saying that it is morally repugnant to create an animal doomed to mentalsuffering.
The mice were created by modifying their DNA to mimic a mutant gene first found in a Scottish family with a high incidence of schizophrenia, which affects about one in every 100 people. The mice’s brains were found to have features similar to those of humans with schizophrenia, such as depression and hyperactivity.“These mutant mice may provide an important new tool for further study of the combinations of factors that underlie mental illnesses like schizophrenia and mood disorders,”said Takatoshi Hikida, of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,a leading researcher. The egg cells of mice were genetically modified by inserting a gene associated with schizophrenia into their DNA.The eggs were fertilised and grown into viable baby mice using surrogate mothers.Animal Aid,a campaign group, said rodents were not a reliable way of
modelling human disease.

PERSECUTION WATCH:Ex-Taliban Join Talks for South Korean Hostages

KABUL,Afghanistan-A former Taliban member and several influential elders have joined negotiations with the hardline militia to step up pressure for the release of 22 South Korean hostages, an official said Saturday.A South Korean presidential envoy,Baek Jong-chun, was scheduled to hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday,an official from the South Korean Embassy in Kabul said. She spoke on condition of anonymity because of embassy policy. The Taliban has demanded the release of insurgent prisoners in exchange for the South Koreans, who were captured on July 19.One of the original 23 captives was shot to death on Wednesday.Purported Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said the militants hoped Baek would be able to "persuade the Afghan government"to swap imprisoned militants for the captives."If they don't release the Taliban prisoners, then the Taliban does not have any option other than to kill the Korean hostages,"he said, reiterating an earlier threat.Abdul Salaam Rocketi,a parliament member who once belonged to the Taliban, has joined the talks, said Shirin Mangal, spokesman for the governor of Ghazni province.A second lawmaker and several respected leaders from the province's Qarabagh area, where the hostage were taken, have also joined, he said...

ENVIRO CRAZE WATCH:The Seeds of the Global Warming Police State

Czech President Vaclav Klaus, drawing on his memories of Soviet oppression, recently declared that the global warming hysteria had replaced Communism as"the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy, and prosperity."
The environmentalists continue to do their best to prove him right. In making the parallel to Communism,President Klaus cited the use of environmentalism as a justification for global central planning. But it is not just the vast scale of the controls proposed by environmentalists that is so revealing;it is also the detail. There is no aspect of life too trivial or intimate(as Sheryl Crow infamously reminded us)to fall outside of this new ideological regimentation.A bit of the flavor of the coming environmentalist police state is provided by a new Australian television show titled "Carbon Cops."In a bizarre inversion of the typical American home improvement show, the experts in this show descend on the hapless homeowners to measure their"carbon footprint,"the amount of fossil fuels involved in the manufacture and use of every item in their house. The"carbon cops"are shown rummaging through a family's smallest household items, searching for global warming contraband-and then scolding them for"polluting"the atmosphere with carbon dioxide.Part of what Vaclav Klaus was sensing-what gives this all the faint whiff of totalitarianism-is the global warming alarmists' eagerness to reach into the smallest details of our private existence and re-arrange our lifestyle to fit the austere requirements of their political ideology....

GLOBAL JIHAD WATCH:Saudi Turns His Back on Jihad

RIYADH,Saudi Arabia-The last time Ahmed al-Shayea was in the news, he was in the hospital at the Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, being treated for severe burns from the truck bomb he had driven into the Iraqi capital on Christmas Day, 2004.Today,he says,he has changed his mind about waging jihad,or holy war,and wants other young Muslims to know it.He wants them to see his disfigured face and fingerless hands,to hear how he was tricked into driving the truck on a fatal mission,to believe his contrition over having put his family through the agony of believing he was dead.At 22,the new Ahmed Al-Shayea is the product of a concerted Saudi government effort to counter the ideology that nurtured the 9/11 hijackers and that has lured Saudis in droves to the Iraq insurgency. The deprogramming, similar to efforts carried out in Egypt and Yemen,is built on reason, enticements and lengthy talks with psychiatrists, Muslim clerics and sociologists. The kingdom still has a way to go in cracking the jihadist mind-set.Most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, and Saudis make up nearly half of the foreign detainees held in Iraq, according to Mouwaffak al- Rubaie,Iraq's national security adviser. They number hundreds,he said this month following a visit to Saudi Arabia.Dozens more are fighting alongside al-Qaida-inspired militants at a Palestinian camp in Lebanon.Several hundred prisoners,as well as returnees from Guantanamo, are thought to have passed through the rehabilitation program.Al-Shayea says his change of heart began when he was visited by a cleric at al-Ha'ir Prison in Riyadh following his repatriation from Iraq.He says he put two questions to the cleric:Was the jihad for which he traveled to Iraq religiously sanctioned? And were the edicts inciting such action correct in saying the militants should not inform their
parents or government of their intentions?
No and no, came the reply.
"I realized that all along I was wrong,"al-Shayea told The Associated Press in a two-hour interview at a Riyadh hotel before returning to an Interior Ministry compound that serves as a sort of halfway house for ex-jihadists rejoining Saudi society."There is no jihad. We are just instruments of death,"he said....

END TIMES WEATHER:Temperatures cool but fires still rage across southern Europe

An extreme heatwave that has roasted southern Europe for a week eased Saturday but the raft of wildfires that followed in its wake continued to rage across the region, and some countries began rounding up suspected arsonists. In Bulgaria, where 23,000 hectares(57,000 acres)of forest and farmland have burned over the past week as the country experienced its hottest temps since records began-above 45 degrees Celsius(104 F)in some places-some 7,000 firefighters and 2,500 army troops continued to battle blazes.
Many fires had been brought under control but some 3,000 hectares of forest were still ablaze in the southern region of Maglizh, while 11 houses burnt down in one village near Kyustendil in the west, and 12 people were evacuated from the southern village of Studenetz.Press reports also said four people had died in fire-related incidents, but this could not immediately be confirmed.
Bulgarian police meanwhile said they had arrested 14 people for deliberately starting a number of the fires.Firefighters were also still battling at least 30 forest fires across Macedonia Saturday, most of them in the Tetovo region, about 50 kilometres(30 miles)from Skopje, and in Gostivar, around 70 kilometres west of the capital.Six helicopters sent from Germany,Slovenia and Turkey were helping quell the flames, while planes were also being sent from Norway,Russia and Turkey. While the week-long heatwave that has helped fan flames across southern Europe was abating in most places and temperatures gradually returned to normal for the season, forecasts predicted the searing temperatures in Macedonia would continue through Monday.

TERROR WATCH:Cleared Indian doctor leaves Australia

An Indian doctor cleared of involvement in failed British car bombings left Australia Sunday, vowing through his lawyer to remove any lingering stain on his character.Mohamed Haneef's departure came hours after Australian officials returned his passport and said he was free to leave following his release from custody Friday when the prosecution case collapsed amid a series of blunders. But Haneef's Australian working visa remains
suspended on"character grounds,"even though he no longer faces terrorism charges, and Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said he would oppose any attempt to have it restored."I do not propose to change my decision and the Commonwealth will continue to resist this appeal in the Federal Court (due August 8),"
Andrews told reporters.Andrews said Haneef's lawyers had sought permission for him to leave Australia after his release and the government agreed because the doctor would not have been allowed to stay without a visa anyway. The minister, who has faced severe criticism forexercising a little-used discretionary power to cancel Haneef's visa, said he would seek to release the confidential police material on which he based the decision.Haneef's lawyer Peter Russo said the government placed a media gag on his client as a condition of departure, with the doctor limiting himself to a thumbs-up sign before boarding a Bangkok-bound plane leaving Brisbane Airport.
Media reports said Haneef would arrive in his hometown of Bangalore in southern India on Monday.Russo said Haneef was not deported but left voluntarily and would continue the fight to clear his name from India, fearing the cancelled visa would blemish his record and jeopardise future work and travel prospects. The lawyer called for the Australian government to apologise over the 27-year-old's treatment and urged Andrews to reinstate the visa."He (Andrews) seems to be the only person in Australia who still thinks Dr. Haneef is guilty of something," said Russo, who accompanied Haneef on the plane, along with the doctor's cousin Imran Siddiqui.

Only in San Francisco?

What would raise eyebrows in other parts of the country,is widely accepted in San Francisco.
We are surely living in days that are evil.
Men are calling evil good and good evil.
We have been desensitized to many things to such a point that they don't cause us any surprise or shock anymore....How far we are spiralling down....!

Pre-Olympics prayer campaign announced for China

Open Doors USA is calling on Christians to join a concentrated prayer campaign for China as that country gears up to host the 2008 Olympic games. The initiative, called "One Minute/One Year/One Country" -- asks Christians to pray for at least one minute daily at 8:00 p.m. Beijing time starting August 8, 2007,a year before the games kickoff.Paul Estabrooks, who is the minister at large for Open Doors, is pleading for people to join them in prayer."We're asking people to pray, which is the best thing we can do.It's the least we can do and it's the most we can do,and so that's what we are asking people to do.And we're just asking for a minute a day,"Estabrooks continues."With busy people, that's at least the minimum amount we should be able to give."
Reports of Christian persecution in China are on the rise, especially against members of unregistered house churches.Estabrooks says there are several reasons for the crackdown.
"It appears to be that general attitude that the government has of fearing that Christianity could become a subversive political force,"says Estabrooks."I think my personal take on it is they look back over 15 years to the collapse of the Soviet Union and especially communist regimes in Eastern Europe, where the church became a focus for political dissent."Estabrooks says that the Chinese communist government fears Chinese Christians could bring about the same collapse in China. However,he says that is not the goal of the Chinese church, which has had the "longest lasting revival movement that's ever been recorded in church history."Those who take part in the prayer campaign will receive a monthly prayer e-mail calendar and other updates.

Why Sacrifices in The Millennium?-Part 1

A common objection to the consistent literal interpretation of Bible prophecy is found in Ezekiel's Temple vision (Ezek. 40-48). Opponents argue that if this is a literal, future Temple, then it will require a return to the sacrificial system that Christ made obsolete since the prophet speaks of "atonement" (kiper) in Ezekiel 43:13, 27; 45:15, 17, 20. This is true! Critics believe this to be a blasphemous contradiction to the finished work of Christ as presented in Hebrews 10. Hank Hanegraaff says that I have "exacerbated the problem by stating that without animal sacrifices in the Millennium, Yahweh's holiness would be defiled. That, for obvious reasons, is blasphemous." He further says that such a view constitutes a return "to Old Covenant sacrifices."[1]
"Is it heretical to believe that a Temple and sacrifices will once again exist," ask John Schmitt and Carl Laney? "Ezekiel himself believed it was a reality and the future home of Messiah. Then, it becomes not heresy to believe that a Temple and sacrifices will exist; rather, it is almost a heresy to not believe this, especially because it is a part of God's infallible word. The burden on us is to determine how it fits-not its reality."[1] At least four other prophets join Ezekiel in affirming a sacrificial system in a millennial Temple (Isa. 56:7; 66:20-23; Jer. 33:18; Zech. 14:16-21; Mal. 3:3-4), which supports a literal and thus futurist understanding of Ezekiel.
New Covenant Sacrifices
We do not believe that reinstituting sacrifices in a future dispensation will be a return to the Mosaic system of the Old Covenant. The Mosaic Law has forever been fulfilled and discontinued through Christ (Rom. 6:14-15; 7:1-6; 1 Cor. 9:20-21; 2 Cor. 3:7-11; Gal. 4:1-7; 5:18; Eph. 2-3; Heb. 7:12; 8:6-7, 13; 10:1-14). The millennium will be a time in which Israel's New Covenant will become the ruling jurisdiction (Deut. 29:4; 30:6; Isa. 59:20-21; 61:8-9; Jer. 31:31-40; 32:37-40; 50:4-5; Ezek. 11:19-20; 16:60-63; 34:25-26; 36:24-32; 37:21-28; Zech. 9:11; 12:10-14). Therefore, it will not be a time of returning to the old but of going forward to the new. "For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also" (Heb. 7:12).
The new millennial Law will contain a mixture of Mosaic-type laws with totally new non-Mosaic laws not found in the 613, under the jurisdiction of the New Covenant. Jesus the Messiah will be physically present instead of the Shechinah glory presence in conjunction with the ark of the covenant; a new priestly order from the sons of Zadok (Ezek. 40:46; 43:19; 48:11) instead of the Levites; a new Temple measuring one mile square (Ezek. 40:48-41:26) instead of the much smaller Solomonic model. Randall Price tells us:
The previous section concerning the design of the altar of burnt offering (43:13-27) introduced the reinstitution of the sacrificial service, which continues in the subsequent chapters (44-46) with regulations for the Levitical priests and the various sacrifices to be offered for Israel's atonement. Although detailed instructions concerning the institution of the sacrificial system appear for the first time in these chapters, frequent references to the practice have been made since the beginning of the prophecy (40:38-43, 46-47; 41:22; 42:13-14). Moreover, these references are not incidental, but intrinsic to the entire presentation of Ezekiel's vision in chapters 40-48. For example, there is a statement concerning the sacrificial system in every chapter but one (chapter 47). These references include: "new moons and Sabbaths . . . all the appointed feasts" (Ezek. 44:24; 45:17; 46:3, 11-12), "daily offerings" (Ezek. 46:13-14), "burnt offerings, grain offerings, and the libations" (Ezek. 45:17; 46:2, 4, 11-15), "blood sacrifices" (Ezek. 43:20), an "altar" for burnt offering (Ezek. 40:47; 43:13-27), an "altar" for incense offering (Ezek. 41:22), "boiling places" to "boil the sacrifices of the people" (Ezek. 46:23-24); a "Zadokite" priesthood to "offer Me the fat and the blood" (Ezek. 40:46; 42:13-14: 43:19; 44:15-16; 48:11), a "Levitical" priesthood to "slaughter the burnt offering" (Ezek. 44:10-11; 48:22). Furthermore, the offerings are stated to be for "a sin offering" (Ezek. 43:22, 25; 44:24, 29) and to "make atonement" (Ezek. 43:20; 45:25). Since the sacrifices and sacrificial personnel are so prominent throughout these chapters, the treatment of the sacrifices cannot be avoided.[2]

Evangelist Reaches Thousands in Venezuela

One of the Church of God Delmarva-DC region's state evangelists,Bishop Joel Hitchcock, recently reported on a ministry outreach to Venezuela earlier this summer.A total of 17 services were held, attracting a combined attendance of approximately 35,000 people.According to Hitchcock, the smallest services were held among Native American Venezuelans, where the population was "stunned" according to Hitchcock,by the many instantaneous miracles of the blind, the deaf and other sick folk being instantly healed after prayer. The peak attendance was in the city of Tucupita where more than 10,000 people attended a single service.Brother Joel reports that to his best count 22,064 souls made a decision for Christ. He concedes however that although many decisions were first time salvations, many were also repeats or rededications."Only God knows the true number" he says. This was the first time ever that this city had experienced a city-ide crusade?much like another city, where Brother Joel ministered in 2003. At that crusade the mayor made a decision for Christ, and still remains faithful to that decision after four years. He is now the governor of the state and is accountable directly to President Chavez.Hitchcock has held many such crusades in Africa,India and Pakistan, and hopes to eventually win one million souls to Christ each year.He is also holding his first open air mass crusade in the United States this summer.

Mysterious chunks of ice pelt Iowa town

Authorities were unsure of the ice's origin but have theorized the chunks either fell from an airplane or naturally accumulated high in the atmosphere both rare occurrences."It sounded like a bomb!"78-year-old Jan Kenkel said. She said she was standing in her kitchen when an ice chunk crashed through her roof at about 5:30 a.m.Thursday."I jumped about a foot!" She traced the damage to her television room, where she found a messy pile of insulation, bits of ceiling, splintered wood and about 50 pounds of solid ice.
Karle and Mary Beth Wigginton, who live a block away, heard a loud "whoosh" coming through the trees. They discovered several large chunks of ice in front of their home and some smaller ones in the yard and in the street."I could see where branches were shredded, which told me it was definitely coming out of the sky,"Karle Wigginton said.He estimated the original chunk of ice was the size of a basketball."It was pure white,"he said."The main parts I picked up were very smooth."Elizabeth Cory,a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said investigators would contact Kenkel to try to determine the source of the ice."It is very uncommon for something like this to come from an aircraft,"Cory said."That is really unusual if it is pure white ice, especially at this time of year."Occasionally, aircraft latrines discharge contents at altitude, resulting in chunks of descending ice.Airplanes also sometimes accumulate ice on their edges in certain atmospheric conditions, including high altitude and extreme moisture, said Robert Grierson, the Dubuque Regional Airport manager and a pilot. The moisture involved in such a scenario could have come from the tops of strong thunderstorms. However,Dubuque had clear skies at the time the ice fell, said Andy Ervin,a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Davenport."There was nothing unusual going on,"he said.David Travis,a professor of geography and geology and an associate dean at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater,has studied the phenomenon of large chunks of ice falling from a clear sky.He said it's possible the ice could have been a megacryometeor"similar to a hailstone, but without the thunderstorm."Travis is part of a research team that has documented more than 50 possible megacryometeor cases during the past five years. Some involve ice chunks the size of microwave ovens."It is hard to keep something like that suspended in air without a thunderstorm,"Travis said. Most megacryometeor sightings have occurred in coastal areas, where atmospheric turbulence helps keep ice suspended long enough to grow into large chunks.Travis' research team speculates the phenomenon could be linked to global warming, suggesting that climate change might make the tropopause portion of the atmosphere colder, moister and more turbulent."But those don't typically happen in the summer time,"Travis said."It seems like they are mostly associated with the passage of passing cold fronts."

Racism in the Islamic World

For years, the U.N.,led by Islamic and Arab nations and their sympathizers, has accused Israel of racism, but the world consistently turns a blind eye to open, seething anti-Semitism in Islamic society. How can peace prevail in the Middle East in the face of Islamic bigotry and hate? When will moderate Muslims speak out?
In one of the most astonishing propaganda coups ever,a United Nations conference on racism, which took place in Durban South Africa in 2001, declared that Zionism is racism. No wonder the U.S. and Israel walked out of the meeting, which was dominated by representatives of Islamic and Arab states and other anti-Israel forces, and whose conclusions were predictable from the outset. The supreme irony of this conference was that it accused no other nation of racism-only Israel. In truth,Israel is perhaps the most racially and ethnically diverse and tolerant country in the world.More than half of Israel’s Jewish population consists of people of color-blacks from Ethiopia and Yemen,as well as brown-skinned people from Morocco,Iran,Syria,Egypt and Israel itself. In addition, Israel’s population includes more than one million Arabs, who enjoy the same civil rights as Jewish Israelis. In Israel hate speech is banned, and it is against the law to discriminate based on race or religion. In contrast,anti-Semitism-a poisonous form of racism directed specifically against the Jewish people-is rampant in most all Islamic societies. Not only is anti-Semitism commonplace in Muslim nations, but it is propagated shamelessly by their leaders,in state-sponsored media, and by Muslim clergy. For example, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed declared in a 2003 speech to the Organization of Islamic Conference that,“today Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them.” Imagine if an American president had made a similarly sweeping and bigoted statement about blacks,Latinos or any other race-what a justifiable uproar, perhaps even an impeachment, would ensue.Yet there was no condemnation by the Muslim world of Mr. Mohamed’s comments.
Rather, virtually all of the conference’s Muslim leaders actually voiced their approval. In response to a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia in May 2004,Crown Prince Abdullah declared that “Zionism is behind these terrorist actions in the kingdom.”(Zionism is the code word often used by Islamic anti-Semites for Jews.)U.S. Congressman Tom Lantos called the Prince’s assertion “an outrage . . . blatant hypocrisy,”but Islamic leaders were silent. In fact, millions of Muslims still insist that Zionists were behind the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.Anti-Semitism is expressed so freely and ubiquitously in most Islamic societies that no citizen can escape it.During Ramadan in 2002,Egypt’s state-controlled TV aired “Horseman Without a Horse,”a program based on the notorious forgery,The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,in which Jews allegedly use the blood of non-Jews to make Passover matzot. In Iran,a TV series,“Zahra’s Blue Eyes,”portrays “Zionists” kidnapping Palestinian children and harvesting their organs.
Perhaps nowhere is the hatred of Jews more virulent than among the Palestinians. Most perniciously,Palestinian children are taught in school that Jews are descended from apes and pigs and that the most noble thing they can do is to kill Jews.Muslim clerics like Imam Ibrahim Madiras,an employee of the Palestinian Authority, declared in a 2005 television sermon,“Jews are a cancer”and later that,“Muslims will kill the Jews . . . and rejoice in Allah’s victory.”No surprise, then, that the 1982 doctoral dissertation of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas makes the astounding claim that “Zionists” collaborated with the Nazis to annihilate the Jewish people in order to drive the survivors to Palestine.Anti-Semitism and the prospects for peace: Islamic anti-Semitism permeates the Arab Middle East and creates an atmosphere in which Jews are reviled and represented as subhuman. How can the Palestinian people embrace peace with a people represented by their religious and political leaders as dehumanized, evil beings? Even more importantly, how can Israel be expected to trust a so-called peace partner who expresses abject hatred and murderous intent toward Jews on a daily basis?Yet the U.S. and many European nations continue to demand that Israel make one-sided sacrifices for peace with a people steeped in racism and committed to its destruction.Until Islamic leaders muster the integrity to relentlessly condemn anti-Semitism(and its evil twin, anti-Zionism),we can’t expect Israel to accept a forced peace with the Palestinians.Likewise, until moderate Muslims reject racism in all forms, they can’t expect Islam to enjoy full respect as a political and spiritual force among the world’s people.“ Until Muslims reject racism in all forms, they can’t expect Islam to enjoy full respect as a political and spiritual force.”(Source)It is a shame that the Muslims refuse to see this very basic point. To be respected you must respect. To be accepted you must accept. To live in peace-you must create peace. So simple, but so difficult for the people that say they represent the “religion of peace.”

U.S. plans big arms sale to Saudi Arabia:report

NEW YORK-The Bush administration is preparing to ask Congress to approve arms sales totaling $20 billions over the next decade for Saudi Arabia and its neighbors,The New York Times reported in Saturday editions.Coming as some U.S. officials contend that the Saudi government is not helping the situation in Iraq, the proposal for advanced weapons for Saudi Arabia has stoked concern in Israel and among its U.S. backers, the Times said. The package of advanced weaponry includes advanced satellite-guided bombs, upgrades for its fighters and new naval vessels.Senior officials, including State Department and Pentagon officials who outlined the deals' terms, told the Times they thought the Bush administration had resolved those concerns, partly by offering Israel more than $30 billion in military aid over the next 10 years, which would be a significant increase over recent levels.Administration officials remain concerned, however, that the package could draw opposition from Saudi critics in Congress, which is to be notified formally about the deal this autumn, the newspaper said. The State Department and the White House had no comment on the Times' article, and a Pentagon spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment. Assurances from the Saudis about being more supportive in Iraq were not sought by the administration as part of the deal,U.S. officials told the newspaper. The Times said officials described the plan as intended to bolster Gulf countries' militaries in a bid to contain Iran's growing strength in the region,as well as to demonstrate Washington's commitment to its Arab allies. But they added that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates still plan to use their joint visit to Saudi Arabia next week to press for help with Iraq's government."The role of the Sunni Arab neighbors is to send a positive, affirmative message to moderates in Iraq in government that the neighbors are with you,"the newspaper quoted a senior State Department official as saying. The official added that Washington wants Gulf states to stress to Sunnis that engaging in violence is "killing your future."Other salves to Israel in light of the proposed deal include asking the Saudis to accept restrictions on the range, size and location of the satellite-guided bombs, the Times said. The Pentagon is also asking for a commitment not to store the weapons at air bases close to Israeli territory,it added.Along with Saudi Arabia,Bahrain,Kuwait,Oman,Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are likely to receive equipment and weaponry from the arms sales under consideration, the Times said.

Christian Group Warns: Iran Wants to Hit Israel First, U.S. Next

Washington was inundated with thousands of Christians last week, but unlike their usual marches to protest abortion rights and other social issues, these Christians had something else in mind:U.S.Middle East policy. In fact, many seemed not to notice the hot, humid, cloudy weather-a typical July day in Washington-as they prepared to lobby Congress. They had just been energized by the preaching of Pastor John Hagee, who delivered an impassioned speech the night before in support of Israel. While a quiet man of gentle disposition,Hagee, who leads the 19,000-strong Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and heads Christians United for Israel,
can quickly whip up the faithful. His words, while rich in biblical citation and religious imagery,
aren't minced."It is clear that Israel is in the greatest danger she has faced since six Arab armies tried to strangle the Jewish state in the birth canal in 1948,"Hagee told the crowd at the conference's Night to Honor Israel gala. The event also featured former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu among others."The head of the beast of radical Islam in the Middle East is Iran and its fanatical president,Ahmadinejad,"he continued."Ahmadinejad believes if he starts a world war,the Islamic messiah will mysteriously appear and produce a global Islamic theocratic dictatorship."Ladies and gentlemen,we are reliving history. It's 1938 all over again,"he said."Iran is Germany.Ahmadinejad is Hitler and Ahmadinejad, just like Hitler,is talking about killing the Jews."While concerns about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are spread far and wide in the U.S. and Israel, perspectives vary on what to do about it.The US has recently lifted its 27-year diplomatic freeze on Tehran by meeting with Iranian officials to discuss security in Iraq-a move that has won both praise and criticism in Washington, D.C.But those diplomatic talks are single-minded in nature, and when it comes to Israel, several Jewish organizations in the United States hold that U.S. officials must do everything in their power to persuade the international community to pressure Iran to stop its nuclear ambitions."U.S. policy toward Iran should be to try to martial the rest of the world to apply sanctions to Iran so the Iranians will stop trying to pursue their program of nuclear weapons,"said Neil Goldstein, executive director of the American Jewish Congress."Nothing should be taken off the table.""If diplomatic options, economic sanctions could work they could only work if there is a threat of another alternative,"said Abe Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League.Otherwise, there is "absolutely no incentive to Iran to agree to adjust its plan" for developing nuclear weapons.Hagee's supporters agree that Iran is the biggest
existential threat to Israel."An enemy of Israel is an enemy of ours. We feel our country is threatened,"said Julie Wineinger,a registered nurse from Davis,Calif.Hitler analogies usually draw universal criticism from Jewish groups, who complain that the comparison is frequently misused. But Foxman, whose group spends its days trying to prevent defamation of Jews, said this time it works."As a Holocaust survivor,I can understand it,"Foxman said of Hagee's rhetoric."Since 1938 there has been no head of state who has threatened the annihilation of the Jewish state,a Jewish state. It is historically appropriate to compare. Some people say it's somewhat hysterical,I don't think so.""It's appropriate,"Goldstein added."Ahmadinejad has called for wiping Israel off the map, which is taken to mean he has genocidal intentions toward Israel."

PESTILENCE WATCH:Sexually Transmitted Disease Rates Grow In Wash

OLYMPIA,Wash.-The state Department of Health reports that gonorrhea cases increased by 13 percent in 2006 over 2005.
The agency's STD epidemiologist Mark Stenger said reported gonorrhea cases are the highest rates state officials have seen in 13 years. The department said Cowlitz County showed the highest rate of gonorrhea infection last year, more than three times the state average of 66.4 cases per 100,000.Overall,more than 22,000 cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis infection were reported to local health agencies in Washington in 2006.Chlamydia infection was the most commonly reported sexually transmitted disease among Washington residents in 2006.In 2006, syphilis infection in Washington continued to increase steadily with 182 cases of primary and secondary syphilis, the most infectious stages of disease. The department says recent cases have primarily been diagnosed among gay men and their partners in urban centers.Secretary of Health Mary Selecky emphasizes sexually transmitted diseases aren't just a big-city problem.

Shambo monks vow to defend cattle

Hindu monks have said they are prepared to defend more of their cattle from slaughter after one of their temple bullocks was put down.A post-mortem examination on Shambo found he had lesions typical of bovine tuberculosis. It means other cattle at the Skanda Vale religious community in Carmarthenshire, west Wales, face possible slaughter. The monks' attempt to spare Shambo from the Welsh Assembly Government's slaughter policy ended at the Court of Appeal this week.On Thursday, three months after Shambo failed a routine TB test, officials were denied access to Skanda Vale when they came to remove him.Returning with a court warrant and police back-up,they had to break a chain to unlock the gates so a cattle trailer could be towed on to the site.Dozens of worshippers blocked the way to Shambo's pen by spending the day chanting prayers in front of him. In
extraordinary scenes, police had to carry some people away after they refused to move.A Skanda Vale spokesman said another bullock and a water buffalo could be at risk.He said:"I have no doubt they are going to do the same again. Why would they suddenly change their mind?"We will do the same as we did on Thursday-we can't assist them or help them in any way.
PS:"But if our gospel be hid,it is hid to them that are lost;
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God,should shine unto them."

Muslim-only jail could be built to protect the terrorists

Ministers are secretly considering plans for an all-Muslim prison after a series of attacks on jailed Islamic terrorists,it is claimed. The prison could house the growing number of Muslim extremist inmates,it is said, after increasing signs of tension at the jails in which they are housed.
But critics said terrorists must not given the appearance of special status within the justice system. On Sunday,a fire was started in the cell housing Hussein Osman,in Frankland high security prison in County Durham.Osman was jailed this year for his role in the July 21 bomb plot.He tried to repeat the July 7 carnage by attempting to blow up a train at Shepherd's Bush,West London, in 2005.Nobody was hurt in the cell fire, which is under investigation, but officials believe it may have been an attempt on his life.
It was the third incident in three weeks involving convicted Islamic terrorists at the prison.
Earlier this month Dhiren Barot, 34,an Al Qaeda plotter jailed for life last year, was seriously burned when he was scalded with boiling water.

U.S.,India strike civil nuclear deal

The United States and India announced Friday they have completed negotiations for a landmark agreement to share civilian nuclear fuel and technology."The conclusion of negotiations on this agreement marks a major step forward in fulfilling the promise of full civil nuclear cooperation as envisioned by President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,"said a statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Indian Foreign Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The accord, known as the "123 Agreement"
will reverse three decades of U.S. sanctions on India for its nuclear tests.Critics say it damages global nonproliferation efforts as India has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but proponents insist that India is an exceptional case and the new deal actually strengthens the worldwide nonproliferation regime by bringing India's civilian nuclear program under international safeguards. It remained unclear if the agreement discusses the possibility and consequences of a future Indian decision to test a nuclear device. In New Delhi,Indian National Security Adviser M. K. Narayanan said at a news conference,"This deal deals primarily with civil nuclear cooperation. There is no reference here to detonation or to any test.So what happens in the event of a test,we will come to that position later on."However,U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns said in a Washington news briefing that the United States had preserved its right to revoke technological support and nuclear supplies to India, called the"right-of-return",in the event New Delhi conducts a nuclear test."We hope and trust that it won't be necessary for India to test in the future,"said Burns, the chief U.S. negotiator in talks on the nuclear deal. But"protection"is built into the agreement to meet U.S. legal obligations,he said."And so if there's any reason for the United States to have to invoke the right-of-return,we could certainly do so."While the India-U.S. nuclear agreement will allow American companies to partner with Indian companies to help India boost its nuclear energy production capacity, the United States also seeks to ease India's demands for fossil fuels, thus easing pressure on global energy markets and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.India is now the world's fifth largest consumer of energy, and its demand for electricity is expected to double by 2015.

Evangelical Theologian: Bottom Line is Mormons are not Christians

Mormons believe in a false gospel and are not Christians, concluded one of the nation’s preeminent evangelicals in what appeared to be the close of an online debate over Mormonism.“Here is the bottom line.As an Evangelical Christian-a Christian who holds to the ‘traditional Christian orthodoxy’ of the Church-I do not believe that Mormonism leads to salvation,”wrote Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr.,
president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary,on Wednesday evening.“To the contrary,I believe that it is a false gospel that, however sincere and kind its adherents may be,leads to eternal death rather than to eternal life,” he stated.Mohler’s response is part of an ongoing“blog dialogue”sponsored by the Web site Beliefnet.com.Since June 28,the evangelical scholar and prominent Mormon science-fiction writer Orson Scott Card have been debating whether Mormons can be considered Christians.
He emphasized that Mormons share many of the same values as evangelicalChristians and believe Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation. However,Mohler noted that whether a Mormon has similar moral values to evangelical Christians is beside the point because Beliefnet.com had asked whether Mormons can be considered Christians based on traditional Christian orthodoxy.“It appears that we are not really discussing the same question,”noted Mohler in his latest blog response.“The debate has never been about whether Mormons are good Americans or would make good neighbors,”he wrote.“I dare say that most American Evangelicals and traditional Roman Catholics would find more in common with Mormons in terms of child-rearing,sexual morality, the protection of marriage and family, and a host of other issues, than they would with liberal Catholics or liberal Protestants,”acknowledged Mohler. But Mormonism from its beginning has rejected traditional Christian orthodoxy, which is part of the core Mormon identity, pointed out the highly-respected theologian. The subtitle of The Book of Mormon is “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.”“A ‘testament,’that is,other than that accepted by the historic Christian churches,”Mohler highlighted.Mohler, concluded that Mormonism is not just another form of Christianity and is incompatible with “traditional Christian orthodoxy.”

I know may be many of you don't even believe in a literal hell.Well,it's REAL cause the Bible says so.If we would understand the Bible more simply as for what it's saying to us,we would have less trouble with some issues.
Bottomline-cause I don't want to get sidetracked here-is that Mormons are NOT christians.

Judges Overturn Ban on School Board Prayer

A Louisiana school district that has been riddled with religious lawsuits got some backing Wednesday after a panel of judges overturned a decision that had formerly barred them from opening their meetings with prayer. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled that the Tangipahoa Parish School Board-which has had five religious-related lawsuits brought against it in the past 13 years-could not be held accountable for an“offended observer”and has the right to have voluntary prayer at their meetings.According to attorneys from the faith-based legal group Alliance Defense Fund(ADF),the decision severely undercuts the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU),which has been filing the suits,in their use of the Establishment Clause.“The court today has delivered a serious blow to the ACLU by affirming that the far left can no longer bully its way into court without any proven, concrete injury,”
explained ADF senior legal counsel Mike Johnson in a statement.Johnson presented the oral argument on behalf of the school board defendants on May 22.“Simply claiming that one is ‘offended’by religious speech or symbols is not enough to spark a federal case,”he added. For several decades, the Louisiana school board has opened all their meetings with prayer. But in October 2003, the ACLU sued the board on behalf of an anonymous plaintiff, claiming that the practice offended him. After it went to trial,a decision was made in February 2005 by federal district court judge Ginger Berrigan, who also happened to be a former state president of the ACLU.In the ruling, she called for the board to permanently cease the prayers, because she argued that it was violating the plaintiff’s rights under the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.Following the situation, attorneys from ADF and their co-counsel from the law firm Adams and Reese filed an appeal, and the court granted their request. After looking over the case, the 5th Circuit judges decided to overturn the district court’s opinion, with a majority statement explaining that it “spares this court from issuing a largely hypothetically-based ruling on issues of broad importance to deliberative public bodies in this circuit and beyond.”The board members will now be able to resume their prayers at meetings.“The practice of opening public meetings with prayer is and always has been lawful and appropriate,”added Johnson.“The Constitution does not ban citizens or elected officials from invoking divine guidance and blessings upon our public work.”Other lawsuits that ACLU attorneys have brought up against the Tangipahoa Parish School Board include allowing the evangelical group Gideons International to hand out Bibles during school hours and allowing a “pizza preacher” who distributes pizza and teaches Christianity during lunch.

CULTURE of DEATH:Massive Chinese Recalls, but FDA Silent Over RU-486 Chinese Manufacturers

WASHINGTON,D.C.-For weeks the US Food and Drug Administration has been warning the American public about tainted Chinese imports of contaminated pet food, poisonous toothpaste, and an outbreak of botulism. However the federal agency has failed thus far to issue warnings over the possible contamination of RU-486,a chemical abortion pill made exclusively in China, which has led to at least 6 documented deaths in North America and hundreds of severe adverse effects in women. As the Chinese scandals began to unfold,pro-life Congressman Chris Smith(R-NJ)and co-chairman of the Bipartisan Pro-life Caucus called on the FDA to investigate Danco,a company established in the Cayman Islands solely for the purpose of selling its only product,RU-486,in the US.Smith wanted to ascertain its relationship with the Shanghai based manufacturing company,Hua Lin Pharmaceuticals."As the serious problem with tainted products coming out of China becomes more clearly evident and the deadly effect of RU-486 on women's lives also becomes more increasingly evident,I ask that you take a serious and comprehensive look at the companies involved in the marketing and manufacture of RU-486,"stated Rep.Smith in a July 3 letter.Smith's concerns were publicly validated barely a week after his letter, when the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA)ordered Hua Lin to suspend its sale of Methotrexate,a cancer drug also used off-label by abortion clinics as a chemical abortifacient, for possible taint after receiving complaints of severe side-effects.The SFDA has been reeling from widespread corruption and scandal in its ranks.
The former SFDA head, Zheng Xiaoyu was executed this May on corruption charges, and the SFDA reports that it may take at least 5 years to clean up the morass of false and deficient drugs approved by Zheng's administration. The Chinese government has also revoked the production licenses of five drug makers over the last year and penalized 128 others.Smith's letter to the FDA pointed out that Hua Lin,the manufacturer of Mifepristone or RU-486,has had a history of violating US health regulations. He cited two FDA visits to Hua Lin manufacturing sites in 1999 and 2000 revealing"serious problems including possible mixing of fresh materials with waste material barrels and use of impure source ingredients."The FDA also revealed back in 2000 that Hua Lin had a decade of violating US regulations before approving the drug that year.Wendy Wright,Pres. of Concerned Women for America, which has vigorously protested the FDA's abandonment of its typically rigorous standards to approve RU-486 and now Plan-B "emergency contraception,"told LifeSiteNews.com that a number of officials in the FDA have a mindset that "it's better to have this on the market because women are at greater risk of getting pregnant than they are of dying from this product."If the FDA treated RU-486 like any other drug or food product then it would need to pull RU-486 from the market,"said CWA's Wright. "One problem is that RU-486 and abortion overall is treated with a greater preference by government officials than almost anything else.""I think if most women customers were told outright that there is a risk of dying from this product... they would probably not use that product," said Wright."But instead with the FDA's stamp of approval women are assuming that the drug is safe and effective."Representative Smith spoke with LifeSiteNews.com about his struggle to get the FDA to reconsider its negligent approval of RU-486 for woman."Most Americans would be shocked that this dangerous baby pesticide is being brought in from China by a company incorporated in the Cayman Islands,"said Smith."I mean that has fraud written all over it.""The Population Council has the rights to RU-486 in the United States. It's a non-governmental organization without the deep pockets of a Merck or a Johnson and Johnson, so when women get harmed or die whom do you sue?Danco,a company in the Cayman Islands?" continued Smith saying it was"exceedingly hard" for injured women or dead women's survivors to take legal action.Smith called the over 600 severe adverse effects and 6 deaths recorded by the FDA just"the tip of the iceberg" since no effective monitoring system for RU-486's effect on the general population is in place.(see related:http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/jan/06010301.html)
"Sham trials brought it here in the first place," Smith said, noting that FDA standards were sacrificed in order to fulfill the Clinton administration's priority of bringing RU-486 to the United States."We're going to keep pressing the FDA for some answers,"said Smith. He has requested the FDA to send him a history of documentation from its first approval process of RU-486 by August 2.Smith said that if he has no answers from the FDA after August 2,he plans to ratchet up the pressure for the FDA to look into health concerns over the deadly abortion pill.

Americans Urged to Join Nationwide 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting Campaign for an End to Abortion

COLLEGE STATION-A groundbreaking, grassroots campaign has taken hold of communities throughout the United States. The mission is to storm Heaven with 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion.David Bereit,a noted pro-life speaker from Texas who pioneered this campaign, stated in a press conference that the movement was born out of the"prayer and frustration"of pro-life activists. He said that increasingly many people have felt worn out with the pro-life battle and discouraged by the apathetic silence of their local churches. In 2004,however,a small group of volunteers banded together in College Station Texas, calling out to God to re-energize the pro-life movement.Less than three weeks later the first 40 Days for Life (40 DFL) Campaign began. The 40 DFL are an intense time during which people pray, fast and spread the pro-life message throughout their community. The movement is a wake-up call, said Bereit, restoring a sense of urgency in the fight against the industry that claims the lives of 4000 unborn babies each day in America. The components of the campaign are very simple, but not easy.In fact,Bereit claimed that it might be the"single probably most challenging activity I have ever participated in during my time involved in pro-life efforts."First,it starts with prayer and fasting. This means starting with God and begging him to allow the nation to repent. There is an"incredible spiritual power" in fasting, says Bereit, which not only includes food, but anything people decide to sacrifice.
Throughout the entire effort, underlined Bereit,"you have to be willing to do more than you are asking anyone else to do."Secondly, the campaign entails a 24-hour vigil. This will take place around the clock for a total of 960 hours in front of the local abortion clinic or Planned
Parenthood office. It brings public attention to what is going on,sends a message to clinic employees, and helps any young women who might be considering an abortion. Finally,a grassroots outreach movement is necessary to reach every corner of the community.Door-to-door and word of mouth invitations to join people in prayer have gained the movement tremendous media coverage, first locally, then state-wide and internationally.Shawn Carney, host and executive producer of the new EWTN show"beingHUMAN,"described the overwhelmingly positive results. After the 2004 campaign in College Station, over 1000 people in the local community got involved in the pro-life movement, and pregnancy centers saw a huge increase in visitations.Participants reached out to 25,000 homes in the area to spread the pro-life message. Most importantly,he added, abortion numbers went down by 28% that year."Lives were saved at the end of the day,"and hope was restored in the community.Other communities throughout the States joined in and reported a miraculous birth of fresh spirit and increased numbers joining the pro-life movement.Since then,40 DFL has proposed a nationwide Campaign that will take place this fall.Countless communities and thousands of people will join in solidarity across the United States as they pray and fast together. From August 7-15th communities will be able to register for the National 40 Days for Life Campaign.Communities don't need big numbers;the event is tailor-made to the needs and resources of each. The bottom line requirement is that the effort must remain "peaceful, prayerful and legal" at all times. From August 16 to 25 will be a period of training during which communities will receive weekly conference calls, planning guidelines, flyers, and other literature.Communities will also be able to set up an interactive web presence on the 40 DFL website to start networking with others. Finally, from September 26 through November 4 the actually Prayer and Fasting Campaign will take place.Dave Bereit challenged people to join in,saying,"This is the time to make a decision to do something.I believe that this fall people of faith across our country are going to transform our nation and are going to shape history and are going to mark the beginning of the end of abortion."He continued,"And you have a decision to make. Are you going to be on the front line being able to tell your children and your grandchildren,'I was right there when history was being shaped.'Or are you going to sit on the sidelines and just watch as history is shaped and passes you by."Already 400
communities in 45 states have expressed interest in the campaign, and 1600 people have
downloaded the planning instructions manual. In Wisconsin alone,40 DFL is scheduled to take place in front of every single abortion clinic in the state this fall.
