Gov't tells Israelis they're irresponsible to live near Gaza
First it was the disputed territories, now an Israeli government mouthpiece is suggesting that Israelis also shouldn't live in parts of pre-1967 Israel that are under attack from Palestinian terrorists. On Sunday morning a host on government-controlled Voice of Israel radio told an Israeli woman who lives just over a mile from the Gaza Strip that she is irresponsible for living in an area that is under constant threat of rocket attacks. The woman responded that it is the government of Israel that is irresponsible for allowing a portion of its citizens to live under such a threat for years without taking decisive action. She warned that with the Olmert government's plans to surrender Judea and Samaria, Tel Aviv will soon live under a similar threat. With advancements in locally-produced Palestinian rockets and recent successes in smuggling Iranian missiles into Gaza, some 250,000 Israelis now live within range of the terrorists.Officers with Israel's Home Front Command told Army Radio on Sunday that that number may soon rise significantly. In anticipation of Gaza terrorists taking possession of greater quantities of medium-range missiles, the Home Front Command has begun distributing leaflets explaining to residents of previously unthreatened towns how to deal with the coming attacks. The new threat zone encompasses some 500,000 Israelis.
