"Am I therefore become your enemy, because I TELL YOU THE TRUTH...?"
(Galatians 4:16)

BULLIED BY Roman Catholics...

I've been receiving quite a bit too much "interesting hate mail" regarding my posts on the Pope, especially the one entitled:"Pope:other denominations not true churches"on last tuesday july 10th...
It's interesting to see the effect of the TRUTH in people.
Mostly is "anger" and then "plain hatred"that you can obviously perceive while reading the emails.
Words are powerful things, and sometimes you can feel the spirit behind of those that either spoke or wrote them.
The apostle Paul said in Galatians 4:16
"Am I therefore become your ENEMY,because I tell you the truth?"
The Lord himself said :
"Think not that I am come to set peace on earth:I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law agaisnt her mother in law.
And a man's foes shall be they of his own household...
He that findeth his life shall lose it and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it."
(Matthew 10:34-37;39)
When the TRUTH of the Word of God is spoken in faith many things happen...The spiritual world takes heed to it and a confrontation in the spiritual realm takes place.Satan doesn't want people to hear the TRUTH of the WOrd of God because it can set them free as it is written(John 8:32)
"And ye shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall make you FREE"(John 8:32)
The enemy of our souls is REAL.Is not a ghost,or a medieval figure,is a real being that is operating in this world today.
The Bible says about him:
"Wherein time past ye walked according to the course of this world, acording to the PRINCE OF THE POWER OF THE AIR,the SPIRIT THAT NOW WORKETH IN THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE"
(Ephessians 2:2)
If JesusChrist is not your Lord and Saviour,in other words if you are not a property of God then you are a property of the devil. That simple.
This TRUTH may shock some. There are not middle grounds here according to the Word of God.Jesus said:
"He that is not with me is against me:and he that gathereth not with me scattereth"(Luke 11:23)
You can start the name calling, like I did in the past when somebody shared the TRUTH of the Word of God with me.I felt threatened,I felt insulted I felt angry...all that...I was a catholic that had never had a personal encounter with the Risen Jesus.I thought I knew God but I didn't.And I was too full of greed to acknowledge that.
Whoever would tell me the TRUTH would instantly become into my enemy. And that including my mother.
When she started sharing with me about the regeneration thru Christ and the new life she had found in Him and all that,I yelled at her,I thought she had gotten crazy.I even said to her that she had been brainwashed at church, etc, etc. How could she leave the Mother Church, how did she dared to defy the "Only TRUE CHURCH"????
I received the same scorn when years later the Lord pierced the veil from my spiritual eyes that prevented me to see the Light of the Gospel and finally gave my life to the Lord.
I understand when people get offended for what I write...
But,reader....is not my invention...I'm quoting the Word of God...I didn't come up with doctrine or invented verses or rites....it's all in the Word of God...
It also hurts to accept the fact of being for so many years faithful to a "Church" that claims to be the Only One and then find out one day that you've been deceived....it's heartbreaking ...I know...I was there...
One of the things that is most appalling to me is the fact that inside the Roman Catholic Church you are not encouraged to read your own Bible.I believe it's because if people would read it,the Lord would open their eyes to understand TRUTH if they are wholeheartdly seeking for it.Like it happen to me...
Somebody wrote me today:
"You should be very careful to voice your frustration with life against the church"
I understand by the rest of the message that this person is a Roman Catholic and got really offended when I voiced my thoughts about this last move from the Vatican in declaring the Church of Rome as " the Only One".
I shared some thoughts and some TRUTH of the Bible and he got mad and what is worse he BULLIED me....!
First of all I'm not frustrated with LIFE at all.LIFE to me is a person according to scripture and that is Jesus.I'm not frustrated with My Saviour!.
My LIFE is pretty good actually,I've got a family,I've got lots of friends,I've got lots of love from them,I've got a roof over my head,I've got clothing and plenty of food. The Lord has been gracious to provide for every need in my household!Praise God for that!
I hope this reader that "bullied me" is not serious.
What I tried to express is my dismay to see how the Roman Catholic Church is being deceiving millions of people for scores of ages and how it has been "persecuting" christians and jews for ages too and how it keeps enslaving people into a lie that is not scriptural.
Ignorance of the scriptures can be deadly:
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..."(Hosea 4:6)
Ignorance can take you really far... as far as to spend eternity without God in hell...
I wish this reader would be open in his heart to receive TRUTH.I pray that would happen to him someday soon.

I don't mind being bullied by Roman Catholics.
What I really mind is that they have been deceived to believe a lie and that millions have been lost because of that. That's what hurts me and hurts the Loving Lord that died for them on the Cross.

Have a blessed weekend!!!

END TIMES WEATHER:Britain set for further downpours

Britain is braced for downpours across the country-but forecasters say it could also be one of the hottest days of the year. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the whole of England, Northern Ireland,Scotland and Wales while the Environment Agency has three flood warnings in place.Warnings have been issued over potential flash floods, but forecasters do not expect conditions to be as bad as the torrential rain that caused misery for thousands of people last month. The heavy rain will begin on Sunday morning in the south before battering the north of England and Wales during the afternoon. But once the rain has gone, forecasters say temperatures in parts of the country could top 26C (79F).Meteogroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association, said the bad weather will continue until well into next week.Forecaster Jeremy Plester said:"There will be heavy rain (on Sunday),beginning in Kent and Sussex ... At the same time another band of rain further north will spread west across the country from Wales across the Midlands to Yorkshire."Those two bands of rain will merge later in the day into a big splodge of rain that will cover everywhere from the north of Humberside to Liverpool and Wales."In the afternoon the sun will come out in the South East and we are expecting temperatures of 25-26C (77-79F), making it one of the hottest days of the year. That is because of warm air coming in from the Iberian Peninsula. It has been extremely hot across France,Germany and the Low Countries in recent days."It is going to be cool and rainy for most of next week. It will pick up a bit towards the weekend, but even then there will be showers.Last month's floods happened because a band of rain stopped and battered a single region for 24 hours. This band of rain is moving, so we aren't expecting anything as serious."The Environment Agency currently has three flood warnings in place, all for areas in the North East, and six flood watches.

TERROR WATCH:Pentagon sees 5 million child terrorists in Iraq

The Pentagon warns that if U.S. reconstruction efforts fail in Iraq, punishing unemployment could drive the country's next generation of workers to join the jihad. In that event, America and the West potentially would face an army of as many as 5 million young terrorists.Right now, Iraqis suffer from 50 percent unemployment, and the prospects are especially grim for the nation's youth, noted Paul Brinkley, deputy undersecretary of defense at the Pentagon.Iraq is largely a nation of children, he says, with some 40 percent of its population of 26 million under the age of 15. Only about 20 percent of the U.S. population is under 15, by comparison. If economic opportunities don't improve, the children of Iraq represent "a potential pool of recruits for terrorism," Brinkley warned. He added that despite their liberation from the clutches of tyrant Saddam Hussein, Iraqi youth currently have a "negative" impression of America due to deteriorating economic conditions."They have justified frustration," he said, adding that their resentment will only deepen if economic conditions don't change.

BIG BROTHER WATCH:The new TV detector which can reach into any home

With their peculiar and unwieldy antennae, the first TV detector vans were the stuff of science-fiction B movies. And the myths that sprung up surrounding their supposed powers were also worthy of Hollywood. But the latest weapon in the battle against licence-fee dodgers is a green torch-like device weighing less than 1lb-and it really does work, with frightening efficiency. The hand-held detector linked to a set of headphones beeps if an operating TV is inside a radius of 29ft. It means licensing officers can now target places previously inaccessible by cumbersome vans, such as homes in very remote areas and individual flats in blocks.Kate Fisher, of TV Licensing, said that the new detectors will work alongside existing vans 'to enhance an already effective enforcement operation'.She added: 'The message is clear. We have the technology to ensure that anyone watching TV without a valid licence can and should expect a visit, wherever they live.'The vans these days are designed to be discreet, whereas in the old days they were more obvious. There is much more focus on being covert and the hand-held device is a logical extension of that trend.'We tend to work undercover more than in the past.Any van in the street could be a TV detector van these days.We are definitely catching evaders off their guard.'More than 25million of Britain's total of 28million homes do have a licence. But around 1,000 evaders were caught each day last year and 214,000 have already been nabbed in 2007.And it is estimated that 1.4million viewers are still getting away with not paying the £135.50 colour licence-prompting authorities to develop their new weapon.

SIGN of the TIMES:Convict sues God for broken contract

A man serving a 20-year sentence for murder has so-far been rebuffed in his effort to sue God for breach of contract by failing to protect him from evil and turning him over to Satan who encouraged him to kill.Pavel Mircea, 40, filed his lawsuit in the western Romanian town of Timisoara, charging God with failure to fulfill an agreement Micera alleged was made at his baptism."He was supposed to protect me from all evils and instead he gave me to Satan who encouraged me to kill," he charged. In the lawsuit, Mircea listed "God, resident in heaven, represented in Romania by the Orthodox church" as the defendant, according to the Romanian daily Evenimentul Zilei.God's alleged dereliction, according to Mircea including fraud, breach of trust, abuse of a position of authority and misappropriation of goods-all crimes, the plaintiff noted, under the Romanian criminal code.Micera said that God had accepted his prayers and sacrificial offerings without providing any services in return. Thus far, Micera is not getting an answer to his prayer to the court for relief, either. The Timisoara public prosecutor rejected the case, saying God is not a person in the eyes of the law and does not have a legal address where he could be served with court papers.Micera may get off lucky if his case ends there. As WND reported,Italian atheist Luigi Cascioli was ordered to pay a $1,900 judgment after a court ruled he had filed a fraudulent suit against an Italian priest for saying Jesus Christ existed.Cascioli contended the cleric violated a law that forbids deceiving the public. The atheist said the priest, who had publicly criticized him for casting doubt on the truth of the gospels, had no evidence Jesus ever existed. Specifically, he claimed two Italian laws had been broken: the "abuse of popular belief''-which amounts to intentionally deceiving someone-and "impersonation"meaning one gains by giving a false name to someone.

Putin Suspends Russia's Participation in Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty

MOSCOW-Russia on Saturday suspended its participation in a key European arms control treaty that governs deployment of troops on the continent, the Kremlin said, a move that threatened to further aggravate Moscow's already tense relations with the West.Pres. Vladimir Putin signed a decree suspending Russia's participation in the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty due to "extraordinary circumstances ... which affect the security of the Russian Federation and require immediate measures," the Kremlin said in a statement.Putin has in the past threatened to freeze his country's compliance with the treaty, accusing the United States and its NATO partners of undermining regional stability with U.S. plans for a missile defense system in former Soviet bloc countries in Eastern Europe.Under the moratorium, Russia will halt inspections and verifications of its military sites by NATO countries and will no longer limit the number of its conventional weapons, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The White House reacted with disappointment to Russia's decision."We're disappointed Russia has suspended its participation for now, but we'll continue to have discussions with them in the coming months on the best way to proceed in this area-that is in the interest of all parties involved and provides for security in Europe," Gordon Johndroe, a spokeman for the National Security Council, said in a statement.

"KNOWLEDGE SHALL INCREASE":Wave the TV remote control goodbye and change channel with a thumbs-up

It sounds like the perfect invention for all those couch potatoes who find even using a remote control just a little too much like hard work.
Scientists have come up with a box that lets television viewers change channels, switch on the DVD player or switch off an irritating presenter with the wave of a hand. The controller's built-in camera can recognise seven simple hand gestures and work with up to eight different gadgets around the home. Not only will it be a godsend for lazy viewers, it could also save hours of fruitless scrabbling among the sofa in search of the remote control. The all-seeing wave controller is the brainchild of Australian engineers Dr Prashan Premaratne and Quang Nguyen. They believe it could be on sale within three years, ending the frustration involved in finding and using remote controls.Dr Premaratne, of the University of Wollongong, said: "We all rely on remote controls to manage an increasing number of items including TVs, set-top boxes, DVDs and hi-fis, and the range of goods will continue to increase."Apart from the frustration of sometimes mislaying the remote control just when you need it, they do tend to have different sets of commands which have to be mastered."People have tried to replace remote controls with voice recognition or glove-based devices but with mixed results...."

TERROR WATCH:Bin Laden Appears in New al-Qaida Video

CAIRO,Egypt-A new al-Qaida videotape posted Sunday on a militant Web site featured a short, undated clip of a weary-looking Osama bin Laden praising martyrdom. The bin Laden clip, which lasted less than a minute, was part of a 40- minute video featuring purported al-Qaida fighters in Afghanistan paying tribute to fellow militants who have been killed in the country. It was posted by the group's media production wing.Bin Laden glorified those who die in the name of jihad, or holy war, saying even the Prophet Muhammad "had been wishing to be a martyr.""The happy (man) is the one that God has chosen him to be a martyr," added bin Laden, who was shown outdoors wearing army fatigues and looking tired.

Late-Night Porn on Public TV Spurs Christian Protests in S. Africa

Groups of pro-family Christians outraged over the presence of late-night porn on public television held a protest outside the TV station’s studios Saturday, arguing that pornography fuels sexual abuse.Christian Action Network-a conservative umbrella organization mobilizing Christians to protest against pornography, abortion, and same-sex union in the country-demonstrated and prayed outside the e-TV studios in Cape Town Saturday morning.Members of Africa Christian Action, Christians for Truth and several other mission organizations and churches demanded the network remove pornography from its programming, pointing to clinics which link child sex abuse cases to pornography.“We have had e-nough! Porn on free-to-air national TV is outrageous,” said Taryn Hodgson, international coordinator of the Christian Action Network, in a statement.“There are many parentless homes in South Africa and many homes where children are not supervised as to what TV they are watching. R18 restrictions are not enough to prevent children from watching these films.”
Hodgson lifted up testimonies from local children counselors from Safeline and Teddy Bear Clinic which have counseled children who were sexually abused by other children.“They say that many of the children they have counseled say they have watched the Emanuelle porn films on e-TV,” said Hodgson.E-Tv,however,denied the link between pornography and sexual abuse. A letter from e-TV’s regulatory affairs executive officer Olefile Bop Tshweu read:“We submit that in broadcasting these films the timeslot is appropriate, the warnings are adequate, the content does not breach the Code and there is no evidence that these films contribute to sexual crimes.”
Therapeutic manager Shaheda Omar at Teddy Bear Clinic in Johannesburg, however, claimed in her report that she found that absent parents and “unmet emotional needs” had turned television into a “surrogate care-giver” with disastrous consequences. Her research showed that while some children say they wanted to emulate love scenes in soap operas such as the Bold and the Beautiful, others said they have been inspired by late night porn on e-TV.Omar had interviewed 100 child sex offenders and their mothers from across the social spectrum for her doctoral research project at Johannesburg University.“I cannot believe that e-TV feels no sense of social responsibility for the harm they are causing,” said Hodgson. “Considering that South Africa has some of the highest rape statistics in the world and one of the highest HIV prevalence rates, can e-TV (and other broadcasters) afford to be contributing to these disastrous statistics through the negative sexual grooming of children and adults in this nation?”The Christian Acton Network plans to urge advertisers who are currently advertising during these pornographic films on e-TV to discontinue advertising.“Pornography degrades and exploits people made in the image of God,” concluded Hodgson. “Pornography is the theory, rape is the practice.”South Africa has one of the most liberal governments in the world.Last year, South Africa became the first country in Africa and only the fifth in the world to legalize same sex “marriages.”The bill was highly opposed by many Christian and conservative groups in and outside of the country. Abortion is also legal under South African law.Christian groups are planning to hold protests outside the e-TV studios in Durban and Bloemfontein in the month of July.

Luis Palau Hosts Largest Outdoor Event in Omaha's History

The city of Omaha, Neb.,will witness its largest-ever outdoor event as one of the world’s most known evangelists brings an expected 20,000-30,000 people to his Heartland
Festival.Argentina-native Luis Palau-a major evangelical figure in Latin America and now in the United States-will be hosting the two-day celebration starting July 14 at Omaha's Qwest Center, attempting to unite the people in the “heartland of America.”
About 300 churches-one quarter of Omaha’s congregations-are expected to contribute and attend, and residents are excited to have a faith event of such magnitude."Omaha has never seen what they're getting ready to see,” explained Dr. Curtis Dodd, senior pastor at Westside Church, to KETV 7 News.“Omaha has never been this unified, at least with churches."As main activities for the festival, attendants will listen to inspirational speeches from Palau, listen to nightly concerts, and engage in family activities throughout the grounds.
The celebration has brought in some top names in Christian music including tobyMac, Jeremy Camp, Kirk Franklin, Salvador, KJ52, and Mandisa. Two years in the making, the event will be completely free-a way to encourage believers and non-believers to join in the festivities."We want this festival to lift up everyone in the community," said Palau to KETV 7 News."Everyone is welcome. That's why it's free."The event has also drawn a Catholic crowd. The Omaha archdiocese has even taken on an active role in promoting the festival to the Catholic churches in the area, helping to put together what could be a quite diverse crowd."It just brings the faith community together,”said Phil Tackett,a volunteer from Thanksgiving Lutheran Church in Bellevue, to KETV 7 News. “So many times we just stay in our little comfort zones and our areas and it's just a great event that brings us together for one cause."To aid in-need individuals in the surrounding community, organizers are also encouraging attendants to bring at least one non-perishable food with them to the event which will go to The Food Drive Compassion Project that began earlier this year.Food will be distributed through 14 different pantry ministries.A smaller highlight, the festival will also house the largest LCD screen available in North America.Palau, based in Oregon, has done ministry work and evangelism for about 40 years now.He got his start alongside the Rev. Billy Graham, eventually creating his own organization with the help of the legendary U.S. evangelist.

PERSECUTION WATCH:No Justice for Murdered Ethiopian Christian, Says Group

More than three months after an Ethiopian evangelist was killed by Muslim militants in March, there are still no signs of movement on bringing those responsible to justice, reports International Christian Concern (ICC).“We are alarmed to report that it has been more than three months since the killing occurred, but no one has yet been charged or imprisoned for the killing of evangelist Taddesse,” ICC wrote in a statement. The only action taken by the Ethiopian authorities so far is to detain the guard of the mosque where the murder occurred. He was later freed, however.Despite calls from church leaders for the prosecution of those involved in the killing, the Muslim-dominated justice system in Jimma has refused to respond, ICC was told.“By failing to prosecute the killers of Taddesse, Ethiopian authorities are violating their obligation to protect human rights and their commitment to do so in agreeing to international human rights instruments like the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.“They are also failing to abide by their own constitution which requires them to protect the human rights of their citizens,” stated ICC.The persecution watchdog group warned the international community that the latest killing was a sign of worsening conditions for Christians in Ethiopia.“The attack against evangelist Taddesse is not a single incident but it is a part of growing pattern of attacks against Christians and churches in Ethiopia since the May 2005 election in which Ethiopian government was challenged by strong opposition politicians," it stated.

SIGN of the TIMES:Defining Anglicanism Amid Crisis

At a time when Anglicans are in what many call a crisis and trying to define common foundations that would bind them as a global body, the bishop of one of the largest Anglican provinces asks "What is Anglicanism?"The nature of the crisis in the Anglican Communion has often been identified as the issue over homosexuality, but Archbishop Henry Orombi of the Church of Uganda stressed that the heart of the crisis is the "risk of losing our biblical foundation.""We in the Church of Uganda are convinced that Scripture must be reasserted as the central authority in our communion," he stated."The basis of our commitment to Anglicanism is that it provides a wider forum for holding each other accountable to Scripture, which is the seed of faith and the foundation of the Church in Uganda."A growing number of conservative congregations have severed ties with The Episcopal Church-the U.S. branch of Anglicanism-which they believe has departed from scriptural authority and Christian orthodoxy. The 2003 consecration of an openly gay bishop had heightened the controversy and further indicated the U.S. body's "leftward drift."In the Global South, which houses the largest Anglican provinces, the majority of Anglicans oppose The Episcopal Church's recent actions and have called for true repentance as they seek to uphold Scripture. As Nigerian Archbishop Peter J. Akinola said earlier, "All we are saying is, do not celebrate what the Bible says is wrong," he told London's The Times."In Uganda, the Bible has grown into a cherished source of authority that is central to Christian faith, practice, and mission. For all God’s people, obedience to this Bible is the source of confidence, abundant life, and joy.It is an absolute treasure that no one can take away," said Orombi."The Word of God has withstood the test of time. The Bible is at the heart of our Anglican identity, and we Ugandan Anglicans joyfully submit to its life-giving and
transforming authority."Knowing the centrality of the authority of Scripture in Anglicanism, Orombi says "we understand ourselves to be in the mainstream of Anglicanism."Meanwhile, conservative Anglicans have indicated that the American branch, which has stated it will not go "backward" on its 2003 decision, has left Anglicanism and is perhaps defining itself as an offshoot...

GLOBAL JIHAD WATCH:Islamists Threaten Somali Peace Talks

Troops stepped up security across the Somali capital Saturday after Islamists threatened to disrupt a peace conference, saying anyone who takes part "is sentenced to death."The threat came from the Shabab, the militant wing of an Islamic group that ruled much of southern Somalia for six months last year. The group was driven from power in December but has vowed to launch an Iraqi-style insurgency until Somalia is ruled by an Islamic theocracy. The Shabab called a meeting set for Sunday in Mogadishu a "conspiracy conference against the Somali people.""Anyone who participates in it is sentenced to death," the group said in a posting on its Web site.
Mogadishu has seen little peace since government troops backed by Ethiopian forces drove an Islamic movement out of the city in December. Roadside bombs, attacks on government installations, assassination attempts and gunbattles have become common, and civilians have been caught in the crossfire. The peace conference is aimed at helping the troubled country heal the wounds of 16 years of conflict, but it has been postponed several times because of violence in the capital and infighting. The government said the Shabab's threats would not disrupt the conference."We have completed our preparations and most of the delegates have arrived so we will not be cowed by terrorists and insurgents," said Abdi Haji Gobdon, the government spokesman.Hundreds of Somali troops and their Ethiopian allies were patrolling the capital, and dozens of checkpoints were set up along major roads.Somalia has been mired in chaos since 1991, when warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre and then turned against one another. The government was formed in 2004 with the help of the United Nations, but has struggled to assert any real control.

ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT:Unity Eludes Africa

Nairobi, Kenya-When the African Union website opens, a welcome message declares that "Africa must unite." But while such sentiment may be growing, an initiative to move the continent towards a formal union has failed.African leaders meeting for the 9th A.U. Summit in Accra, Ghana, this month considered as a key agenda item a report commissioned by the bloc that recommended steps culminating in a single African government by 2012. But most African leaders rejected the hugely ambitious plan, at least for the time being, saying regional blocs should be strengthened first. The decision stemmed from many factors, from individual governments' failure to discuss the issue with their citizens, to concerns by some about the agenda of the main proponent of the idea, Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi. Gadaffi provided most of the funding for the Accra meeting. The idea of a unified Africa was first floated more than five decades ago by Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, but the proposal did not gain widespread support among the continent's leaders. Many Africans today regard the idea as impractical because of the diversity of cultures and differing levels of support for democracy."How would we gain from such an alliance?" asked Rosemary Katana, 35, a banker in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. "Our resources should be directed to what can change the living standards of the continent faster," she said. "Then we can think of the grand plans when people are not dying from hunger."On the streets and in the media, others agreed that the idea should not be rushed. "At least for once, reason prevailed and [African] leaders thought before they made this commitment," one editorial said.Leaders like Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni say the A.U. is an adequate political and economic vehicle for Africa, but that it needs to become more focused. Museveni said in Accra that the bloc needed to stop "being everywhere and nowhere. Focus is the key issue. It needs to act and stop too much talk."The Ugandan leader said the A.U. should prioritize stepping up regional trade and strengthening regional structures. That will eventually lead to integration, he argued. Some political analysts believe integration would enable African nations to pool their resources and so help to improve overall living standards, among the lowest in the world.

La. outlaws 'dilation and extraction' abortion

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana-Louisiana became the first American state Friday to outlaw a controversial abortion procedure that involves partially removing the fetus intact from a woman's uterus, then crushing or cutting its skull to complete the abortion.
The new law allows the procedure in only one situation at any time during pregnancy: when failure to perform it would endanger the mother's life. The procedure would be a crime in all other cases, even if the pregnancy is expected to cause health problems for the mother.Anti-abortion activists call the procedure "partial-birth abortion;" surgeons and abortion rights activists call it "dilation and extraction."Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco signed into law criminal penalties for doctors who perform the surgery: fines of between $1,000 and $10,000, and jail terms of between one and 10 years. The statute is parallel to a federal ban that President George W. Bush signed into law in 2003, which was upheld in April by the U.S. Supreme Court.Lawmakers in other states are expected to consider similar bans. Louisiana is the first to enact one, according to the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights, an abortion-rights group.Unlike in many developed countries, where abortion is considered a medical procedure beyond the reach of politics, it remains among the most politically sensitive subjects in the United States, and is likely to be a hotly debated issue through the campaign to the November 2008 U.S. presidential election, especially by conservative Republicans.

ALIYAH REJECTED:Expats blast cash offer for Iran Jews to immigrate to Israel

An Iranian Jewish organization announced over the weekend that it rejected an initiative to promote Iran's Jewish community to immigrate to Israel using cash incentives."[The money is]inappropriate and politically immature," the group said in a statement that was carried by Western and Iranian news outlets. It added Iran's Jewish community has remained loyal to the Islamic Republic and that their "Jewish Iranian identity is not a commodity that passes from the hands of one merchant to another in return for money."The statment addressed an offer by expatriate Iranian Jews offering a sum of $10,000 to each individual to immigrate to Israel. The $10,000 offer doubled the existing $5,000 allocated each Jewish Iranian upon arrival to Israel by the Ministry of Absorption and the Jewish Agency.Iran's Jewish community has decreased from 80,000 before the Islamic revolution, to about 20,000 today. It is represented in parliament by a Jewish lawmaker and is the largest Jewish community in the Middle East outside of Israel.

More than 100 foreign Christians in China have been accused of being involved in illegal activities and have been expelled in just a 90-day period, the biggest assault on the presence of Christianity in China since 1954, according to a new report from the Voice of the Martyrs. Most of those who have been expelled are from the United States, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Australia or Israel, and had been working in or visiting Zinjiang, Beijing, Tibet and Shandong, according to the VOM report.A Christian who had worked in Xinjiang for 10 years told a VOM source that more than 60 foreign religious workers, many who had served people in the area for more than 15 years, were expelled from Zinjiang alone.Officials also are reporting an increase in arrests of Chinese house-church pastors and leaders, who have been accused of being "suspects using evil cults to obstruct the enforcement of the law."VOM reported that the campaign against Christians is called Typhoon No. 5, and "is part of the Chinese government's efforts to prevent foreign Christians from engaging in mission activities before the Beijing Olympics in 2008."Earlier, WND documented reports from VOM, which monitors and publicizes instances of persecution of Christians worldwide, that a Christian was jailed in China for no more than walking near the construction site of a hotel being prepared for the 2008 events."This is the largest expulsion of foreign missionaries since 1954 when the Chinese Communist government expelled all foreign religious workers after taking power in 1949," reported a VOM source. "At least five different mission agencies and sources within the Chinese government report that in February, the government launched a massive expulsion campaign against foreign Christians.""In spite of the public face of religious freedom the Chinese government tries to convey through its state run system, the arrests of Chinese Christians, and now the expulsion of active Christian visitors is a demonstration of their true nature," said Tom White, executive director for Voice of the Martyrs.

Ghana: Gay 'Rights' is an Affront to Public Interest

HUMAN RIGHTS in its homely sense are the rights that a person enjoys because he/she is a human being. It is a fact that there is no out-and-out definition for what human rights are. What therefore happens in practice is that, these rights are guaranteed in the laws of most states with special reference to their culture, custom and norms.Notwithstanding, these rights enshrined must reflect some 'minimum standards' that civilised states accept. This means that, what is a human right in the United States or Denmark (which was the first country to legalise gay 'rights' in 1989) may not be the same conclusion in Ghana or Libya and vice-versa.For instance, while it is not a crime to attempt, abet or commit suicide in Europe today, the contrary is provided under our Criminal Code. Over the past months, there has been agitation for the 'legalization' of gay 'rights' in Ghana, our motherland, for a simple reason that the position of our laws on it is discriminatory.
This trite argument is most unfortunate. 'No person can make lawful what the constitution says it is unlawful. No person can make unlawful what the constitution says it is lawful'.Every person in Ghana, whatever his race, place of origin, political opinion, colour, religion, creed or gender shall be entitled to the fundamental human rights and freedoms of the individual contained in this chapter but subject to the respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for public interest. Our Criminal Code states in unambiguous terms that unnatural carnal knowledge is a criminal offence. It defines unnatural carnal knowledge as the sexual intercourse with a person in an unnatural manner or with an animal. This is what Ghanaians have accepted since 1960 to be our moral guide and for the preservation of our customs and norms. If a sect is in the belief that it is against their rights, they should challenge this provision in a court of law and should stop the cheap ugly noise in our streets and the airwaves.'It is (not) proper for the law to concern itself with what a man does in private unless it can be shown to be so contrary to the public good that the law ought to intervene'...

India to register pregnancies to fight foeticide

NEW DELHI-India plans to create a registry of all pregnancies to help curb widespread female foeticide and reduce its high infant mortality rate, although activists say the scheme will be hard to implement."With this, mysterious abortions will become difficult," Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury told the Hindustan Times. The government wanted to ensure that abortions-often carried out illegally with the aim of doing away with unwanted female foetuses-were done for an "acceptable and valid reason", she said."This will help to check both foeticide and infant mortality."Around 10 million girls have been killed by their parents in India in the past 20 years, the government says.Despite a law banning sex determination tests in a country where boys are widely preferred, many parents get female foetuses aborted, taking advantage of the widespread availability of ultrasound technology and the willingness of some doctors to conduct illegal abortions for money.Others kill newly born girls by breaking their necks or, in some rural areas, by stuffing hay down their throats.Earlier this month, a two-day-old baby girl was found alive in a grave in southern India after being buried by her grandfather who did not want to bear the cost of bringing her up.Some activists said the government's plan to create a pregnancy register in a country of 1.1 billion people-where more than 50 percent of women deliver children at home without medical assistance-was unrealistic."We cannot give elementary health services in a satisfactory way to most of our citizens, and to talk about registering pregnancies is ridiculous," said Alok Mukhopadhyay, head of the Voluntary Health Association of India."Public awareness, empowerment of women and extension of health services are key in fighting infant mortality and foeticide, as well as implementing the existing laws that forbid sex determination."The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) welcomed the plan but said the government also needed to provide more facilities for institutional deliveries in rural areas and crack down harder on doctors abetting foeticide."Registering pregnancies is good," said Marzio Babille, UNICEF's head of health in India."If we act upon mothers by registering pregnancies, offering quality ante-natal care, good counselling to deal with complications and an efficient transportation network this would enormously help promote institutional deliveries and strengthen and expand the safe maternity scheme," Babille added. At present, India's infant mortality rate is 57 per 1,000 live births, which is higher than impoverished Bangladesh and Namibia and double that of Egypt."We should be ashamed," Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told senior health bureaucrats on Thursday.

'Jules Verne' set for sea voyage

The Jules Verne cargo ship has been packed up ready for despatch to the European spaceport in French Guiana. The vehicle-the biggest, most complex spacecraft ever built in Europe-will launch in January with up to 7.5 tonnes of supplies for the space station. The ship has been under test for three years at the European Space Agency's technical centre in the Netherlands.
Late on Friday it began the transfer by road and canal to Rotterdam, from where it will go by sea to South America. The Jules Verne-or Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV)to give it its generic name has been split into three parts and put in containers for the journey. The craft heads to the Kourou spaceport as part of a 400-tonne, 50-case shipment that incorporates all the associated parts, apparatus and tools needed to reassemble it and check it prior to launch."One of the major issues has been getting the customs paperwork in order,"explained Stefan Brosze, ATV transportation manager."There are members of our team who know exactly where to find everything, right down to the very smallest items." The Jules Verne is the first of at least five ATVs that will fly to the International Space Station (ISS) over the coming years.Developed at a cost of 1.3bn euros (£0.9bn), the ship incorporates sophisticated automated rendezvous and docking systems.Once launched on an Ariane 5 rocket, the craft can find its own way to the ISS, to deliver air, water, fuel, scientific equipment, food, clothing and even personal items to the platform. It will also reboost the station, which has a tendency to drift back to Earth over time...

Miracles in Miami—Hundreds of doctors Gather to Examine Supernatural Divine Healing from the "Great Physician"

"During the walk of Jesus here on earth, a major strategy He used to proclaim His Lordship was to heal the sick. It is our role as His expert witnesses to testify to the works of healing by the Power of God with verified medical data."
(Miami, Florida)-Hundreds of Christian doctors from around the world are gathering in Miami, Florida, from July 13-14 to examine the topic of supernatural healing from "the Great Physician." They are part of the World Christian Doctors Network (WCDN) who are meeting for their 4th International Medical Conference with the theme of "Spirituality and Medicine." Attendees will hear a series of talks from doctors on such topics as "Judeo-Christian Ethics in Medicine," "Christian Physician and the Practice of Medicine," and "Adult Stem Cell-Its Clinical Applications." There will also be a series of case studies of "incurable" illnesses given by various doctors on what they believe to be miracle healings resulting from the prayer of faith.
Dr. Joonha Hwang, President of WCDN, and a South Korea physician, explained how the organization came into being."Two thirds of medical schools in the United States, including Harvard and Johns Hopkins, offer courses on spiritually and faith in their curriculums, largely because patients are demanding more spiritual care," he said."According to a Newsweek poll, 84 percent of Americans said that praying for others can have a positive effect on their recovery.
"Along this line of thought, a group of Christian medical doctors have started a movement called WCDN which intends to tackle the issues on spirituality, with its main intention-to influence and equip Christian doctors by sharing the goodness of Christ in the form of proclaiming the Gospel principally through the healing ministry."Dr. Hwang added,"During the walk of Jesus here on earth, a major strategy He used to proclaim His Lordship was to heal the sick. It is our role as His expert witnesses to testify to the works of healing by the Power of God with verified medical data."

Pentagon Chief Says Al-Qaida Expanding in N. Africa

Secretary Gates says U.S. intelligence reports indicate that North Africa's Maghreb, which includes Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, is the latest area where al-Qaida is working to establish or affiliate with terrorist groups."There has basically been a merger, or whatever you want to call it, of several terrorist groups there, under the rubric of al-Qaida, in the Maghreb," he said. "I think that's probably the newest area where it has emerged as a reasonably coherent organization."Secretary Gates says the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan destroyed al-Qaida's ability to directly control terrorist activities around the world. But he says the remnants of the network, including its senior leaders, continue to influence global terrorism from safe havens in Pakistan."We, I think, have pretty good evidence that, for example, al-Qaida in Iraq takes strategic guidance and inspiration from the al-Qaida in the western part of Pakistan, Osama bin Laden's organization, Zawahiri and company," he said."They get advice. They clearly are connected. But they also have, I think, probably substantial autonomy."Secretary Gates described al-Qaida today as a 'franchise' organization, a term also used Friday by White House spokesman Tony Snow...

GLOBAL JIHAD WATCH:Pakistan Deploys Thousands of Troops to Prevent Jihad Against Government

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan-Thousands of troops were deployed to Pakistan's northwestern frontier to try to dissuade outlawed Islamic militants from launching a holy war against the government for its bloody attack on a radical mosque, military officials said Saturday. As the troop movements proceeded in at least five areas of the North West Frontier Province, a suicide bomber struck in another region of the border, his explosives-laden vehicle killing at least eight soldiers in a military convoy, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arhad said.Local security officials said as many as 12 soldiers died and another 20 were wounded in the attack, while nearby two rockets believed to have been fired by militants landed near a military check point.
Elsewhere in the northwest, suspected militants detonated a bomb that struck a vehicle carrying soldiers in the town of Bannu, injuring two of them, said Mohammed Khan, an area police official. The region along the Afghanistan border has seen increased activity by both local militants, the Taliban and, according to a recent U.S. assessment, the Al-Qaeda terror network.
"With help from local tribal elders, we are trying to ensure that militants lay down their arms, and stop issuing calls for jihad against the government," said a senior military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media...

END TIMES WEATHER:Typhoon Man-Yi Injures 34 in Japan

TOKYO-A powerful typhoon raced up the Japanese archipelago Saturday, injuring at least 34 people, cutting power and snarling transportation, officials said.By Saturday afternoon,Typhoon Man-Yi was bearing down on Makurazaki city on the southern tip of the southern main island of Kyushu after lashing the Okinawa island chain Friday with heavy rain and fierce winds.A 63-year-old woman suffered fractures after she was knocked over by the wind early Saturday in Kyushu's Kagoshima prefecture (state), local official Akihiro Waki said.Another 33 people were injured, mostly due to strong winds, as the typhoon blustered its way up the island chain's east coast, according to local officials. As Man-Yi approached Makurazaki city, it was clocking sustained wind speeds of up to 100 miles per hour and gusts up to 133 miles an hour, the meteorological agency said. The agency warned of heavy rains, high waves and strong winds, predicting up to 40 inches of rain in parts of the region. The typhoon was moving north at 18.6 miles per hour early Saturday and was forecast to move close to the capital, Tokyo, on Sunday. It wasn't clear if Tokyo would take a direct hit.Over 5,500 people evacuated across Okinawa and Kagoshima on Saturday, officials said. Nearly 55,000 households in the two prefectures were without power.Domestic airlines canceled hundreds of flights, mainly those between Okinawa, Kyushu, and southern Honshu.

SIGN of the TIMES:Radicalism Among Muslim Professionals Worries Many

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates-They were some of the best and brightest in the Muslim world who toiled for years to master their knowledge. Now they stand accused of seeking mass murder.
For weeks, commentators and analysts in the Muslim world have been grappling with the implications that a Muslim doctor and engineer, at the pinnacle of their society, may have been behind the failed car bombings in London and Glasgow last month. The question being asked in many educated and official circles is this:How could such acts be committed by people who have supposedly dedicated their lives to scientific rationalism and to helping others? The answer, some scientists and analysts say,may lie in the way that a growing movement of fervent Muslims use science as reinforcement of religious belief, rather than as a means for questioning and exploring the foundations of the natural world.“It’s not that surprising for doctors and engineers to be involved in political Islamist movements-both of the violent and the more moderate sort,” said Taner Edis, associate professor of physics at Truman State University in Missouri and author of “An Illusion of Harmony: Science and Religion in Islam.”He and other researchers who study Islamist movements say that the involvement of doctors and engineers in terrorism is not shocking.Muslim scientists are among the most politicized groups in the region, and the Muslim approach to the scientific method,in the most extreme cases, can squelch the freewheeling curiosity at the heart of scientific discovery.“Fundamentalist-type attitudes are relatively common among people in applied science in the Muslim world,” Mr. Edis said.“The conception has been that modern science is developed outside, and we need to bring it into our societies without it corrupting our culture.”In other words, science is a tool for furthering an ideology rather than a means of examining core beliefs...

ISLAMIC WORLD:Saudi Beheadings on the Rise Again

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia-Rizana Nafeek, a 19-year housemaid from Sri Lanka,is on death row because the baby in her care died while she was bottle-feeding him.If her appeal is turned down, she will taken to a public square to be publicly beheaded. The Sri Lankan government says it is working for a reprieve, and has until Monday to file the plea.A last-minute pardon by the infant's parents could also spare her.But if her execution goes ahead,it will be the latest in a surge of beheadings that could surpass the kingdom's record of 191 in 2005.After dropping to 38 last year, the figure for 2007 is already at least 102, including three women, according to Amnesty International.Beheading has always been the punishment meted out to murderers, rapists, drug traffickers and armed robbers in Saudi Arabia.Whether what Nafeek did amounts to murder has never been spelled out by courts or other officials, but Saudi authorities, facing sustained criticism from foreign human rights groups, insist they are simply enforcing God's law.In February, four Sri Lankan workers were executed for armed robbery and their headless bodies left on public display in Riyadh, triggering harsh criticism from international rights groups.Amnesty International says some defendants are convicted solely on the basis of confessions obtained under duress, torture or deception.Speaking of the housemaid's sentence, Kate Allen of Amnesty International called it "an absolute scandal that Saudi Arabia is preparing to behead a teenage girl who didn't even have a lawyer at her trial.""The Saudi authorities are flouting an international prohibition on the execution of child offenders by even imposing a death sentence on a defendant who was reportedly 17 at the time of the alleged crime," she said.Nafeek arrived in the kingdom on May 4, 2005 to work as a housemaid. She was given the additional duty of looking after the baby boy,a job the Sri Lankan Embassy says she was not trained to do.The embassy says the infant died on May 22 while she was bottle-feeding him.Nafeek allegedly confessed, according to the statement, but then recanted, saying her admission was obtained under duress. The Asian Human Rights Commission,an independent Hong Kong-based body of jurists and human rights activists, said it was an accident. The child was choking, it said, and Nafeek "was desperately trying to help by way of soothing and stroking the chest, face and neck of the baby." However, it said, "due to misunderstandings this case was presented as the murder of a baby by strangulation."An estimated 5.6 million foreign workers, many of them Asian, serve a Saudi population of 22 million. Of the 102 executed this year, half were foreigners, including 21 Pakistanis, according to Amnesty International."The workers commit big crimes against Saudis," charged Suhaila Hammad of Saudi Arabia's National Society for Human Rights. She said the number of executions has risen because crime has increased. She said prisoners are treated humanely and that beheadings deter crime."Allah, our creator, knows best what's good for his people,"Hammad told The Associated Press."Should we just think of and preserve the rights of the murderer and not think of the rights of others?"Beheadings are carried out with a sword, with police holding back spectators and making sure no one takes photos.Prisoners, usually sedated, are made to kneel, lanked by clerics and law enforcement officials and facing the victim's family."The prisoner now recites verses from the Quran while a government official reads the charges and the verdict," according to an account in Arab News,a Saudi daily."Halfway through the reading the executioner suddenly nicks the back of the prisoner's neck with his sword, causing him to tense and raise his head involuntarily."Then, in one swift move, the prisoner is decapitated.Beheadings take place all over Saudi Arabia, usually in a square next to a mosque. In a recent interview with Al-Yaum daily,Fahd al-Abdullah,an executioner in the Eastern Province, called his job "a very ordinary profession, just like any other profession."Al-Abdallah, 27,comes from a long line of executioners. As a child he would watch his grandfather wield the sword, and later was trained for a year by his uncle. He said that before a beheading,he urges the victim's family to pardon the prisoner. Some families do,just minutes before the blade falls.Others do it before an execution date is set in exchange for money or in response to appeals from members of the royal family.A famous case was that of Samira Murait. In 2000 she shot dead a male acquaintance who stalked her after she married. After vigorous mediation efforts and pleas from the public as well as from a Saudi prince, the family agreed to forgive her.She had spent seven years in prison. But Nafeek's Saudi employers refused to pardon her,and a court in Ad Dawadimi,250 miles west of Riyadh, sentenced her to death on June 16.

PESTILENCE WATCH:CDC Quarantine Officers Ever on Watch

CHICAGO-A day's work for Lt. Cmdr. Rendi Murphree Bacon can mean face time with lab rats, frozen specimens or a baboon-hunting trophy. It can bring refugees from far-flung nations where the crippling polio virus has resurfaced or a traveler with a human skull souvenir. The 40-year-old biologist with the U.S. Public Health Service is a quarantine officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at O'Hare International Airport, one of the busiest hubs in the world. Her duties include investigating reports of illness on international flights, checking the health of arriving refugees, inspecting animal products and screening cargo. She can seize articles that lack proper permits.Once there were hundreds of officers like her working on the front lines to prevent potential health threats from entering the U.S. Now there are fewer than 100-a number the CDC has been rebuilding since the Sept. 11 terror attacks and the 2003 SARS outbreak. The recent international scare involving Andrew Speaker, the Georgia lawyer with drug-resistant tuberculosis who flew to several countries before being ordered into isolation, has focused fresh attention on health threats on airlines. The quarantine order in Speaker's case was the first issued by the federal government since a patient with smallpox was isolated in 1963, according to the CDC.CDC quarantine officers have the legal authority to detain anyone who may have cholera, diphtheria, infectious tuberculosis, plague, smallpox, yellow fever, viral hemorrhagic fevers, SARS and pandemic flu.In an emerging influenza pandemic, Bacon could force the hospital isolation of ill passengers-and quarantine even healthy passengers...

TERRO WATCH:Terror Commander: New Attack Will Dwarf Failed Bomb Plot

As senior intelligence and law enforcement officials met again today in the White House Situation Room to deal with the "summer terror threat," a top terror commander said an attack was coming that would dwarf the failed bombings in London and Glasgow.Taliban military commander Mansour Dadullah, in an interview broadcast on ABC News' "World News With Charles Gibson,"said the London attacks were "not enough" and that bigger attacks were coming."You will, God willing, be witness to more attacks,"he told a Pakistani journalist in an interview conducted just four days ago.Just last month, Dadullah presided over what was termed a terror training camp graduation ceremony in Pakistan, supposedly dispatching attack teams to the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Germany. In this new interview, Dadullah talked about the ease with which he and his men operate inside Pakistan."We have many friends," he said."It is very easy for us to go in and out of the tribal areas. It is no problem."Indeed, the rugged mountains of Pakistan have emerged as a safe haven for al Qaeda and the Taliban."They are the central front for al Qaeda," said Seth Jones, who studies the area for the RAND Corporation,a national security think-tank."They are the area al Qaeda has based its international and regional operations. It is a very serious threat to the U.S. security," he said.
Pakistan continues to deny al Qaeda enjoys a safe haven in its territory...

Preacher Gets '666' Tattoo, Calls Self Antichrist

More than 12 members of a Doral, Fla.-based church showed up at a tattoo parlor to get the number 666 tattooed on themselves as a show of faith to preacher Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda who is now sporting a '666' tattoo of his own."I am Jesus Christ, man,"Miranda said in front of Miami CBS station WFOR-TV's news cameras.“The Second Coming of Christ."In September 2006, the founder of the Growing in Grace Ministry was billing himself as the Second Coming of Christ. However, Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda is now claiming that he's the Antichrist. At a recent gathering at the church's headquarters Miranda rolled up his sleeves and showed off the mark of the Antichrist. He had tattoos of three S's on one arm and the number 666-which is considered by many to be the Devil’s number-on the other.WFOR-TV asked his daughter and follower, Joann de Jesus, if it was the sign of the Devil, she said, 'no.'"Jesus of Nazareth, when he died on the cross he killed the Devil," she said while getting her '666' tattoo done. But Miranda, who preaches that the Devil and sin do not exist, isn't necessarily declaring himself the Devil. Daniel Alvarez, professor of religion at Florida International University, thinks Miranda may be playing on the ambiguity of the term "Antichrist," which can mean "taking the place of Christ." In other words, because Miranda claims to be the Second Coming of Christ, he rejects the continued worship of the old Christ: Jesus of Nazareth.WFOR-TV captured the preacher declaring the following on-camera during an applause-filled worship service: "Anyone who doesn’t believe in me will be miserable."Critics say this is yet another publicity ploy by the flamboyant preacher known to sport Rolex watches and drive fancy cars paid for by generous donations from followers around the world. At least one former member feels the number 666 fits Miranda to a "T.""He's the Devil,” former church member Regina Albarracin said. She knows Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda says the Devil doesn't exist, but “it’s him,” she said.Thousands of church members worldwide are expected to get similar '666' tattoos.

'Bionic limb' a reality

London-British scientists have developed the technology that enables artificial limbs to be directly attached to a human skeleton, press reports said on Monday. The concept of growing skin tissue around metal, a staple of science fiction films such as Terminator, was realised by researchers at University College London. It allows the artificial limb to breach the skin without risk of infection.According to the Times, the breakthrough was reached after a detailed study of the way skin seals around deers' antlers. It paves the way for significant advances in the technology of artificial limbs, including the use of bionic limbs controlled robotically by nerve impulses.Early trials of the technology are being carried out on a group of patients, including two people who lost arms in the London bombings of July 7 last year. The procedure allows prosthetic arms, legs, thumbs and fingers to be attached directly to the human skeleton using metal implants that protrude through the skin. With the tissue able to seal round the metal link, it is hoped that the longer-term problem of the implant becoming a site of serious infection will finally be overcome. The work will be published in the Journal of Anatomy.

Physicist: Cell-like structures could be microbes from space

They're red, cell-like, replicate easily in water superheated to nearly 600 degrees Fahrenheit and, according to the physicist who isolated them from mysterious blood-colored rains that fell on India in 2001, they have no DNA-which is why the scientist believes he may have the first confirmed evidence of alien life.Godfrey Louis presented evidence for his hypothesis in the April issue of the peer-reviewed journal, Astrophysics and Space Science. Louis works as a solid-state physicist at Mahatma Gandhi University. Louis isolated thick-walled, red-colored cell-like structures from water collected during the "red rain" that fell in Kerala, India, from July to September, 2001.For a two-month period, sporadic heavy downpours occurred in which the rain was red in color, often appearing like blood. The red color was due to small red particles held in suspension, initially theorized to be spores of a common lichen in India. Analysis of the isolated sediment, however, found the presence of aluminum-an element not usually found in living cells-and much lower levels of phosphorus than would be expected if the particles were biological in origin.Other theories have pointed to red dust picked up by winds crossing the Arabian peninsula and even a fine mist of blood cells produced by a meteor striking a flock of bats.Louis argued none of these theories can explain what he's observed in the lab. Algae and fungus, which make up lichen, have DNA, Louis said, noting that his strange red "cells" do not.Further, blood cells have thin walls, unlike his microbes, and quickly die when exposed to water and air-and they are unable to replicate. Louis' particles thrive in water at temperatures approaching 600 degrees Fahrenheit-far beyond the 250 degrees known to be the upper limit for life-and they reproduce themselves."We've already got some stunning pictures-transmission electron micrographs-of these cells sliced in the middle,"astronomer Chandra Wickramasing, a scientist at Cardiff University in Wales who is attempting to replicate Louis' work, told Popular Science."We see them budding, with little daughter cells inside the big cells."In his journal article,Louis speculated the cell-like particles could be extraterrestrial bacteria transported to Earth on a comet or meteor that broke apart in the upper atmosphere and fell suspended in rain drops...

Guatemala: Catching the Revival Spirit

GUATEMALA CITY-When the Azusa Street revival started 100 years ago, those in traditional religions and the secular world mocked it.They said its Pentecostalism would soon fade and the world would be ruled by more rational, non-mystical systems of belief. But it's the secular systems that have faded while Pentecostalism has prospered-to the point now that some 500 million people have joined its ranks. As the ranks of the Pentecostals and charismatics swell to more than half a billion, you have to ask why? What's the appeal? There's stunning growth in Guatemala. One pastor says a new church or ministry opens up every single day.In the most poverty-stricken barrios, they pop up in abandoned shops. There's a church right in the middle of a slum, where members believe the Gospel will help lift residents out of grinding poverty. The CBN News team was warned not to get closer, though, since the area is also home to Guatemala's most dangerous gang. But outside the slums, among the more mobile business classes, Pentecostalism now also flourishes. Many end up meeting for services in ritzy hotels because the revival in their ranks has grown faster than churches can be built. But when it's done, thousands will soon be flocking to a new $20 million super-sized church, reportedly Central America's largest building.Pastor Jorge Lopez said, "We'll be able to seat 12,200 people in theater seats."Some 3,000 cars will park there. But is all this necessary? Well, at one typical service the other day, the old facility was so jam-packed that 200 cars had to be turned away.
"Our biggest limitation to growing every year has been lack of space," said Lopez.Popular revivalist Pastor Harold Caballeros says much of this growth comes because Pentecostalism offers more than boring religion: it offers Holy Spirit-led, life-changing experiences. He said, "Pentecostalism and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit-prayer, healing, prophecy-all that will bring an experience."Cash Luna, pastor of the mega-church Casa de Dios, says that what captivates many people is seeing the presence of God manifested right in front of them."They're encountering a God who is not just a concept but the power touches them, literally," Luna said, "and they can experience God in their lives."And that experience is attractive enough to transform the once almost-exclusively Catholic country into one where 30 percent of Guatemalans are now Protestants and six out of 10 Catholics label themselves charismatics.
Caballeros now says that the percentage of Christians is so high that it's reached critical mass it's so big, it's transforming Guatemala's culture.Caballeros said, "It's started to become some kind of discipleship of the nation."You can see it in the fact that Guatemala now has its own Christian TV network and 25 Christian radio stations. Some companies sponsor Christian services right inside the workplace.Believers can even enjoy food and fellowship at their own Christian restaurants.Luna says that just among his church members alone, tens of thousands are meeting outside the church walls in more inviting, informal places."Our own church has 2,500 home groups at this time," Luna explained, "and we have people preparing and studying to start another 2,500 groups this year."The powerful Pentecostal experience leads them to the Lord-who leads them to the Bible-and all that mixed up together gives them a Christian worldview that transforms their life. And is almost sure to transform and modernize their nation.

'Wichita Awakening' seeks repentance, revival in Kansas

The first stop on a national tour of prayer and awareness that follows up last weekend's large-scale prayer and fasting event,"The Call," is a three-day stop in Wichita, Kansas, to seek for revival and an end to abortion.A reported 100,000-plus showed up at the Tennessee Titans' home stadium in Nashville July 7 to focus on prayer and repentance for the sins of the nation. On Saturday, youth from "The Cause USA" will join Operation Rescue and pro-life leaders from around the nation in the home city of widely known late-term abortionist George Tiller to pray for the sin of abortion in what some term the nation's late-term abortion capitol.
Operation Rescue's Cheryl Sullenger says some 500 to 1,000 young people are expected to come to Wichita, sensing the Holy Spirit saying now is the time to be there."We're just seeing ... a move of God's spirit across our country, really reaching out to the younger generation," she observes."They seem a lot more concerned with spiritual things and taking their faith seriously, and feet to go with that. They're more and more pro-life." They want to make a difference for Christ, she adds. "This is a real exciting thing that we're seeing going on here."Sullenger says she thinks willingness to act is a hallmark of true revival, and Operation Rescue is hoping that The Cause USA will bring that attitude with them to Wichita, and that it will spread to other parts of the nation as well.

Court rules witnessing is still free speech

Charges have been dismissed against a man who was arrested last year for sharing the gospel and distributing religious literature on the campus of Schenectady County Community College in New York state.According to attorneys for minister Greg Davis, a Schenectady city court judge acquitted him of alleged criminal trespass that led to his arrest in September.Davis's attorney Brian Raum says his client has a regular ministry of public evangelism on college campuses, but on the day in question last fall, an assistant dean at the school told him he "had no right to be there and had to leave.""After a little while,"Raum explains,"they called the police and the police handcuffed Reverend Davis and arrested him for what amounts to preaching the gospel in a public place."Raum says the case was tried in January of this year, with the judge's decision being released this week-a decision which acquitted Davis of any charges and affirming that the college had no right to ask him to leave just because he exercised his First Amendment rights.
"The Supreme Court has said time and time again that religious speech is protected like any other speech," says the attorney, "and in this case there's obvious hostility toward that message-but the First Amendment prevailed in this case and we're very grateful."

Ahmadinejad's Mussolini

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been characterized many times as the 21st century's answer to Hitler. Before declaring Ahmadinejad as the 21st century's Hitler,Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Prime Minister Tony Blair, as well as members of their respective candidates, declared Saddam Hussein to be the Adolf Hitler of this generation. The Hitler/Nazi Germany analogy can be a powerful indictment.Whenever it is used, stark associations flood the mind:appeasement, war, gas chambers, genocide, and the deaths of millions of people.Once we cry Hitler, all attempts at detente or diplomacy are dismissed as mere appeasement. The ghost of Hitler was invoked in a speech by former Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Nentanyahu at the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities this month. As the Jewish Telegraphic Agency recently reported:"Netanyahu warned that Iran is aiming to develop 25 nuclear weapons a year, ultimately with a range that can reach the East Coast of the United States.“It’s 1938-and Iran is Germany. And Iran is racing to get atomic weapons,”Netanyahu repeated again and again.
“When someone tells you he is going to exterminate you, believe him and stop him.”The former prime minister said he had been trying for a decade to warn world leaders that Iran represented the greatest threat-not just to Israel but also to Europe and America-“but nobody seems to care very strongly.”While Hitler started a war and then tried to develop an atomic bomb, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is building nuclear weapons first and then will start a war, Netanyahu warned. Unlike 1938 and its aftermath, however, this time the Jewish people will not be the sacrificial lamb, Netanyahu declared to prolonged applause."Hitler was a singular evil in the pantheon of history. On many levels, his brand of evil is incomparable; any attempt to compare him to tin-pot dictators like Saddam or even Ahmadinejad tends to minimize Hitler more than it maximizes the target of such comparisons.Hitler was evil unbound-he answered to no one, was beholden to his own ideology, which was uniquely Hitlerian. A comparison between Hitler and a common thug like Saddam Hussein is like comparing AlCapone and a common car-jacker.Comparing Ahmadinejad to Hitler is similarly unsatisfactory on most levels, since, as evil as Ahmadinejad might be, he doesn't stand alone the way Hitler does.
Ahmadinejad is the product of a wider evil ideology, whereas Hitler was the founder and author of an evil without parallel in human history.Ahmadinejad's evil is replicated many times over within Islam; Hitler's evil is such that it will be replicated only once more in the course of history. Ahmadinejad's qualification as the 21st century answer to Hitler rests on the fact that Ahmadinejad is a head of state, as Hitler was a head of state. But Ahmadinejad's hatred of the Jews and his desire to wipe them from the map is rooted in the wider ideology of Islam. Ahmadinejad sees the destruction of Israel as a duty imposed on him by Islam...

Russian strategist: Moscow can no longer ignore China nuclear buildup

Aleksandr Khramchikhin, a military and strategic analyst, said last week that Russia must not agree to further cuts in its strategic nuclear arsenal because of the growing threat from China's nuclear buildup. Khramchikhin, chief of analysis at the Moscow-based Institute for Political and Military Analysis, warned in a commentary published last week that additional cuts in nuclear arms would make Russia's arsenal "comparable with China's, which are not restricted by any treaties and which continue to grow.""At the same time, whereas for the United States it would represent unacceptable losses for even one nuclear warhead to fall on its territory, China would survive a dozen," he wrote in Nezavisimaya Gazeta."Meanwhile the shortage of resources (above all, oil) is assuming the nature of a national disaster in China. If China does overtake Russia in terms of nuclear forces, it will begin to talk to us in a completely different tone. And we will not be able to refuse it, as distinct from the United States, anything." Khramchikhin, a hawk on China, has previously warned that Beijing's control over natural resources in Siberia is "not a hypothetical threat, but an imperative of Chinese policy" since that country will run out of resources in a decade. The threat is real because Beijing does not consider the Russian army capable of confronting the People's Liberation Army, he said. China's strategic nuclear buildup is being carried out secretly. It includes plans for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of new warheads on both land- and sea-based missiles. In contrast, Robert Joseph, a special State Department envoy on nuclear proliferation, said last week that the U.S. and Russian governments have agreed to hold talks on reducing nuclear arms "to the lowest level possible consistent with our national security requirements and international alliance commitments."

India, Israel to jointly develop $2.47b. missile system

India and Israel will jointly develop a new generation of medium-range surface-to-air missiles in a $2.47 billion project that India hopes will secure its strategic assets, Indian newspapers reported this week. India's Cabinet Committee on Security approved the joint venture Thursday, according to Indian newspaper The Economic Times. In an article Friday, The Times of India called the project "yet another indicator that Indo-Israeli strategic ties are zooming full-steam ahead, with India buying Israeli military equipment worth a whopping $1.6 billion just in 2006 alone." The missile system, which is expected to take four to five years to develop, is capable of detecting and destroying aircraft, missiles and drones at a range of 70 kilometers, the Times of India reported. It quoted an unnamed source as saying that each of the 18 firing units will come equipped with a command and control center, an acquisition radar, a guidance radar and three launchers with eight missiles each. The missile system development is an extension of a $480 million Israel Aerospace Industries project, launched in January 2006, to develop a supersonic 60-kilometer missile defense system for the Indian navy, the paper said.
