Stocks fall after wild day,Europe woes linger...

NEW YORK-Turbulence continued in the stock market Friday, a day after some of the most volatile trading in history.Traders looked past a surprisingly strong report on the U.S. jobs market and focused instead on Europe's spreading debt crisis and Thursday's plunge. The Dow Jones industrial average was down nearly 1,000 points Thursday afternoon-its largest one-day drop-before recovering most of its losses. The Dow was off about 140 points in late morning trading Friday, paring some of its earlier losses. But stock prices were fluctuating sharply. Traders remained on edge after questions remained about what caused Thursday's sudden drop, which sent the stocks of several companies briefly to zero....

EU Is Collapsing Like Tower Of Babel...

Monument Securities Chief Economist Stephen Lewis says the chaos in Greece could lead to collapse of the European Union, bringing down with it the dangerous assumption that structures of global governance provide stability in times of financial peril, but the World Bank and IMF vultures will be waiting as ever to feed on the remains of a dying country.Striking Greek workers and civil servants have violently protested their government’s acceptance of the terms of an EU-IMF bailout, which sacrifices their future prosperity in a trade off for an attempt at stabilizing the Euro zone as a whole, a damning indictment of how global governance, which was introduced under the justification of maintaining financial stability, has had the exact opposite effect, with the virulence of the contagion from Greece threatening to spread to Portugal, Spain and Italy. “There can be little wonder that the bailout finds little favor with Greek popular opinion,” Lewis said. “It must be obvious to Greek citizens that its terms pay scant regard to their future prosperity, which is being sacrificed in an increasingly forlorn hope of preserving a stable currency for the use of citizens in other member-states”...

Toronto’s G-20 “Free Speech” Zone

CTV News has learned of a plan to try to keep activists far away from the G20 meetings at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this June, by creating a designated protest zone in Trinity Bellwoods Park. The park is located roughly 2 kilometres away on Queen Street.Police spokesperson Meaghan Gray would not say whether officials are expecting violent protests.“I don’t know what we are expecting,” she told CTV Toronto. “We are strongly encouraging anyone who wants to protest during the G20 to use that location.” It’s not the first time a designated protest zone has been created for the G20. Last year, police used the same tactic in London. One woman who lived in London at the time, and who now resides in Toronto near Trinity Bellwoods, says she can understand the reasoning behind the zone....

Feds Characterize Smoldering Car in Times Square as “Potential Terrorist Attack”

The government has portrayed the jumble of propane gas cylinders, gas cans, wiring, batteries and fireworks found in a car parked in Times Square yesterday as a terrorist bomb.
DHS boss Napolitano took to the Sunday talk shows this morning and characterized the “amateurish type of bomb” as “a potential terrorist attack.” She told NBC’s David Gregory that it was “too soon to tell… who or what groups were responsible.”

New York’s bomb squad said the mishmash of fireworks and wires was not even a bomb. Kevin Barry, a former supervisor in the New York City police bomb squad, speculated that if it had functioned “it would be more of an incendiary event” than an explosion....

Ahmadinejad, Clinton take Iran, US nuclear cases to UN stage as treaty conference opens

UNITED NATIONS-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad brings his nuclear case to New York on Monday, turning a U.N. treaty conference into a stage for Tehran's long-running showdown with the Western powers over its uranium enrichment program. The only head of state participating, Ahmadinejad was one of Monday's scheduled kickoff speakers for the monthlong session, to review the workings of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT).Departing Tehran on Sunday, the Iranian leader made clear he would assail U.S.-led efforts to impose a new round of U.N. sanctions on his country for refusing to stop its enrichment program, which Washington and others contend is meant to produce the nuclear fuel for bombs in violation of Iran's NPT obligations....

Former Nazi Bank To Rule The Global Economy

European Central Bank chief Jean-Claude Trichet’s announcement that the Bank for International Settlements is to become the primary engine for global governance is a shocking admission given the fact that this ultra-secretive menagerie of international bankers was once controlled by top Nazis who, in collusion with global central banks, funneled money through the institution which directly financed Hitler’s war machine.During a speech to the elitist CFR organization earlier this week, ECB head Trichet said that the Global Economy Meeting (GEM), which regularly meets at the BIS headquarters in Basel, “Has become the prime group for global governance among central banks”.The GEM is basically a policy steering committee under the umbrella of the Bank for International Settlements. In its current form, the BIS, which itself is not accountable to any national government, is comprised of banking chiefs from global central banks, most of which are private and also have no responsibility to their nation states or their citizens...

China Remains biggest Holder of US Debt....

WASHINGTON—The verdict is in: China is still the top holder of U.S. government debt, the Treasury said in a report on Friday. The report showed that as of December, China held $894.8 billion in U.S. securities. The figure is consistent with a preliminary report released in late February.
Friday's final version of that report puts to rest a question about whether Japan had surpassed China as the top holder of U.S. debt in December. A report released by the government in mid-February had suggested that China had lost its top spot—one it had gained in 2008.
But then, later that month, the Treasury revised that finding in the preliminary report that found China still held the top spot....

President of the European Central Bank Favors Global Governance...

The President of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, told Forbes that global governance is extremely necessary if we want to prevent another financial crisis. In his prepared printed and spoken remarks to the Council on Foreign Relations, Trichet emphasized that politicians, economists, and financiers must work across the Atlantic and collaborate on methods to create an international set of standards. It is his belief that through global governance, the resiliency of the global financial system can be assured, noting that ultimately it was governments’ use of taxpayer’s money, equivalent to around 25% of GDP on both sides of the Atlantic, that prevented another catastrophic great depression from occurring...
