The results of a poll published by Israel's Ynet news portal on Monday showed that a majority of Israelis support the creation of a Palestinian Arab state, even though they recognize that it will seek to destroy the Jewish state.As part of its ongoing "War and Peace Index," Ynet asked respondents if they agree with the following statement:
"In reality, most of the Palestinians do not accept the existence of the State of Israel and would destroy it if they could."Nearly two-thirds, or 63 percent of respondents agreed with that statement.Nevertheless, a 58 percent majority of respondents also said they support the creation of a sovereign Palestinian Arab state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.Media analyst Dr. Aaron Lerner of Independent Media Research & Analysis (IMRA) surmised that Israelis either:
1--Believe it is politically correct to support a Palestinian state and want to say the right thing;
2--Falsely believe that a Palestinian state will be restricted such that it will never pose a threat to Israel; or
3--They hope to win international favor by supporting a Palestinian state, even if it does pose a danger.
