NASHVILLE, Tenn.- With a March 31st deadline fast approaching, some prominent televangelists are being urged to respond to a Senate inquiry into allegations of lavish spending and lax oversight.Ken Behr, president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, notes that Senator Charles Grassley has offered the ministries confidentiality that they won't receive if he has to issue subpoenas.The Senate Finance Committee says three of the six targeted televangelists-the Reverend Kenneth Copeland, Bishop Eddie Long and the Reverend Creflo Dollar-have fought the inquiry.Behr says that while none of the six ministries belong to ECFA, he would advise them to cooperate with Grassley rather than face Senate hearings that could alienate the public and scare awaydonors.As in the days of Noah...
