Pro-Muslim officials putting political pressure on Pentagon Islamic law specialist

Pentagon advisor and national defense analyst Bob Maginnis is concerned over a recently published report that accuses pro-Muslim officials at the Pentagon of putting political pressure on one of the U.S. military's top specialists on Islamist extremism.Bill Gertz reports in The Washington Times that specialist Stephen Coughlin recently met with Hasham Islam-a close aide to Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England. The article states that Coughlin has since come under fire from pro-Muslim officials for labeling several groups-currently being courted by Mr. Islam's community outreach program-as front organizations for the pro-extremist Muslim Brotherhood. The whole ordeal has concerned Lt. Col. Bob Maginnis (USA-Ret.) "The association with Muslim Brotherhood and the association with Hamas indirectly suggests that what Coughlin had brought up was a sensitive issue," says Maginnis. "Now apparently Stephen Coughlin was approached by this Hasham Islam who was trying to persuade Coughlin to look at things in a different perspective."Maginnis is also concerned over the sympathy shown towards the Islamic religion by Secretary England and other senior Pentagon leaders. "They have, of course, opened up the Pentagon Executive Dining Room for Ramadan dinners," he points out. "They have invited a host of other activities to include the dedication of an Islamic center and a prayer room at Quantico."The retired Army officer says he is worried that the Pentagon is allowing itself to be manipulated by people with an ulterior motive that is not in the best interest of the United States.
