Mass graves found in Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia-Officials have confirmed the presence in Liberia of mass graves which are believed to hold the remains of people massacred during the country's 14-year civil war.Jerome Verdier, chairman of Liberia's Truth and Reconciliation Commission headed a team that visited the four villages where the graves are located. The commission had gone to the villages to encourage residents to share their past with the truth commission and were led to the graves, located in Lofa County on Liberia's border with Guinea and Sierra Leone. The smallest grave is believed to hold 78 people, while the largest has as many as 500 bodies, said Verdier."The mass graves that we saw are something the people are living with," he said."In some places, they have the full names of those who were buried."
