Bring Hope to Orphans

More than 140 million kids around the world are looking for a place to call home. In the U.S., about 50,000 foster kids are waiting to be adopted.Focus on the Family is teaming with at least 80 organizations-including FamilyLife and Shaohannah’s Hope-to bring life and hope to these children.“You realize that this is a God-sized issue, and it takes God’s people, we believe, to make a significant dent," said Scott Hasenbalg, spokesman for Shaohannah’s Hope, the adoption ministry of Steven Curtis Chapman. The Cry of the Orphan campaign week wraps up Friday with a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. The event will feature Jedd Medefind, deputy director, White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and will explore domestic and international models for meeting the needs of orphans and vulnerable children."We're bringing together some of America's best social entrepreneurs and faith-based organizations and academics and really highlighting some of the most innovative things that are happening in the world of adoption and orphan care," Medefind told CitizenLink. "It's National Adoption Month, and we have just noticed that faith-based organizations and community groups are really at the vanguard of serving children without families."Earlier this week, the White House expressed its thanks to Cry of the Orphan.“It is with pleasure that I express my deep appreciation and respect for the Cry of the Orphan Campaign,” wrote Jay Hein, director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. “It is nothing less than faith expressing itself in vibrant love.”
