Three sisters celebrate 185 years of marriage in style

According to the three Douglas sisters,there's nothing to beat a long and happy marriage.And they should know,since they have clocked up 185 years of wedded bliss between them.In an age when marriage is increasingly out of fashion and divorce rates are soaring,Agnes,Peggy and Mary have all reached their diamond wedding anniversaries.They have been congratulated by the Queen and Guinness World Records is investigating if their achievement is unique.So at the weekend they held a party to celebrate, and four generations of their family arrived in a Suffolk village to join in.The sisters were raised in Sittingbourne,Kent,enjoying a happy childhood with their parents Joseph Richard,a director of a wool merchants,and Margaret.The first to marry was the eldest,Agnes,now 87.She was a radar operator in the Women's Royal Naval Service and met her husband-to-be Idwal Humphrey in Normandy during World War II.Agnes,of Woodbridge,Suffolk, said:"I would advise anyone thinking about marriage to think about it seriously.It isn't one long honeymoon."You help each other through the hard times and you enjoy the good times.Things go wrong but you get through them together."
