In an effort to help stop the erosion of religious liberty in the US,a Southern Baptist college in Louisiana has announced the opening of a law school.Officials with Louisiana College recently announced the creation of the Judge Paul Pressler School of Law. Judge Pressler, a retired jurist living in the Houston area, was instrumental in bringing about the conservative resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention more than a quarter-century ago.Louisiana College president Dr. Joe Aguillard says the law school will produce attorneys who will play prominent roles in the culture war."Our goal is to educate young men and women in the area of law who will bring with them an apologetic approach to the court and judicial system that will be based on the biblical roots of our country-specifically,the Ten Commandments,"explains Aguillard.It is the hope of the school to have its graduates practicing law in a way that reflects the intentions of America's founding fathers, such as George Washington and James Madison, both of whom played key roles in drafting the U.S. Constitution.Classes are scheduled begin in Fall 2009, with the initial cost of the Paul Pressler School of Law estimated to be $15-$20 million. Aguillard states that a search will soon commence for a dean, professors, and faculty, and that the school will seek accreditation from the American Bar Association.In 2004, another Christian university-Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia-opened a law school that currently carries the provisional approval of the American Bar Association.The Liberty University School of Law graduated its first class this past May.As in the days of Noah...
