At least for the moment,Wichita, Kan.,is "abortion-free"as George Tiller's clinic has temporarily closed its doors while he faces indictment on 19 charges.Many consider Tiller's Women’s Health Care Services to be the nation’s most notorious abortion clinic,because of the controversial late-term abortions performed there.Tiller was arraigned last week on charges that he performed abortions without the signature of a doctor not affiliated with his clinic.His attorneys entered a plea of "not guilty."A trial is scheduled for later this month.Tiller’s clinic has closed before.In 1991,during the “Summer of Mercy,”the clinic shut down for a few days and it also refused patients for about a week last month.Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue,a longtime opponent of Tiller,said he's thrilled with the latest development.“We are excited and cautiously optimistic,"he told Family News in Focus,"that Mr. Tiller will,in fact,see the justice that we have been praying for for so long.”Mailee Smith,staff counsel for Americans United for Life,said,“Hopefully,a partial closure,even for this amount of time,is indicative of a permanent closure later down the road.”Dr. Gary Cass with the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission said he is expecting a conviction,in spite of the fact that Kansas has a pro-abortion attorney general.“The fact that even this person who ran (for attorney general) and said that he would not prosecute Tiller was compelled to do so is indicative of the fact that the evidence was overwhelming and that the pressure was insurmountable.”http://www.citizenlink.org/CLNews/A000005215.cfm
