The pastor of a Saginaw church suspects the source of weekend fire in the sanctuary was started by a pagan ritual. Three crosses in the sanctuary were turned upside down andrearranged.Investigators also found a charred Bible with drops of candle was around it on the church’s communion table. Next to the Bible was a burned flower arrangement. Currently, the investigators don’t know when the blaze was set at the Bethesda Baptist Church.“I don’t know if they’ll handle it as a hate crime,” the Rev. Jack Warren said. “We feel rather violated, like it was anti-Christian.”According to Fire Marshal Doug Spears, investigators have identified a person of interest in the case. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators searched a Saginaw home, where they recovered items from the church. The extent of the damages to the church has not yet been determined. The church plans on using the adjacent fellowship hall for services until they can return to the sanctuary.
