According to Gallup Poll Confidence in Church Dropping

According to a recent Gallup Poll, 46 percent of Americans have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in church / organized religion. This is one percentage point from being the lowest in Gallup’s history since it started in 1973.The poll found that Protestants are more likely to express confidence in the church when compared to Catholics. Today, about 39 percent of Catholics have confidence in the church, down from 53 percent in 2004. Among Protestants the number fluctuated from 60 percent in 2004 to 63 percent in 2006 to 57 percent in 2007.The poll also looked at the confidence levels in the military, small business, police, banks, the presidency, television news, newspapers and Congress. The lowest confidence rating went to Congress with 14 percent, the lowest in Gallup history.
