"In some situations our forces face in Afghanistan, that restraint is an act of discipline and courage not much different than those combat actions that merit awards for valor."
PS:....So...what's the deal with this...?So killing civilians is Ok and restraining from killing them is excellent and should be rewarded with a medal....?Is this crazy or is it just me....?

The Militarization of Outer Space: The Pentagon’s “Space Warriors”
It’s not as if things aren’t bad enough right here on planet earth. What with multiple wars and occupations, an accelerating economic meltdown, corporate malfeasance and environmental catastrophes such as the petroleum-fueled apocalypse in the Gulf of Mexico, I’d say we have a full plate already. Now the Defense Department wants to up the stakes with new, destabilizing weapons systems that will transform low- and high-earth orbit into another “battlespace,” pouring billions into programs to achieve what Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) has long dreamed of: “space dominance.”Indeed, Pentagon space warriors fully intend to field a robust anti-satellite (ASAT) capability that can disable, damage or destroy the satellites of other nations, all for “defensive” purposes, mind you....

Storage of Newborn's Blood Samples Raises Privacy Concerns...
It’s a routine test conducted on newborns – a quick needle prick to the heel to test for a range of health disorders and diseases before an infant is discharged. But the newborn screening procedures, which exist across North America and most of the developed world, have run afoul of privacy advocates because the genetic material collected from infants when blood is drawn is routinely used for other purposes, chiefly medical research.Millions of infants’ blood samples – along with their names and birthdates – are stored on information cards in laboratories across Canada. What has riled civil libertarians and privacy advocates is that parents aren’t told that their babies’ genetic blueprint will be stored indefinitely, and perhaps used for research purposes...
Bankers Destroy Global Economy by Design to Consolidate Power:New transfers of wealth from middle class go directly to French and German banks
American taxpayers have been freshly liberated of hundreds of billions more dollars as part of the IMF’s new bailout package which is principally going straight to European banks, in addition to the Federal Reserve program to ship U.S. dollars to Europe, in a move that represents little more than a desperate effort to save the Euro and rescue the credibility of economic global governance. “The Federal Reserve late Sunday opened a program to ship U.S. dollars to Europe in a move to head off a broader financial crisis on the continent,” reports the Associated Press.“The Fed’s action reopens a program put in place during the 2008 global financial crisis under which dollars are shipped overseas through the foreign central banks. In turn, these central banks can lend the dollars out to banks in their home countries that are in need of dollar funding to prevent the European crisis from spreading further.”As we reported last time this program was enacted, the Federal Reserve refused to say which foreign banks had received an estimated half a trillion dollars in credit swaps. The program is unconstitutional under Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution which states, “No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law”....

Thousands Sign Petition Protesting Empire State Building's Snub of Mother Teresa
Sept. 9, 2009: The Empire State Building is lit in red and yellow to honor the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in this photo taken from across the East River in the Queens borough of New York.
A nationwide petition has been launched by the Catholic League after the Empire State Building denied a request to commemorate Mother Teresa's 100th birthday.Bill Donohue, president of the New York-based Catholic civil rights organization, submitted an application to the Empire State Building Lighting Partners in February to have the skyscraper feature blue and white lights -- the colors of Mother Teresa's congregation -- on Aug. 26 to commemorate her centennial. The request was denied without explanation last week, and more than 6,000 people have signed a protest petition in just one day, Donohue told FoxNews.com."I'd like to find out what's driving this," he said. "But I'm confident it's just a matter of time before we win on this thing"...

Germany 'might have to foot entire euro aid bill'
Germany's opposition Social Democrats (SPD) said on Tuesday they had not decided whether to support a European rescue package for the euro, and warned the country could end up footing the entire cost of the bill. The package - 440billion euros in guarantees from euro states plus 60billion euros in a European stabilisation fund - includes some 123billion in loan guarantees from Germany, a German government source said on Tuesday.Another source said Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet had approved Germany's share in the aid, which has been strongly criticized by conservative media and could face a legal challenge at the country's highest court.SPD parliamentary whip Thomas Oppermann told ARD television there were still too many open questions about the plan, which parliament is due to begin debating next week."What happens if other countries who get aid from the package drop out? Will the German share increase then?" he said....

Bankers jailed, sued as Iceland seeks culprits for crisis
More than a year and a half after Iceland’s major banks failed, all but sinking the country’s economy, police have begun rounding up a number of top bankers while other former executives and owners face a two-billion-dollar lawsuit.Since Iceland’s three largest banks-Kaupthing, Landsbanki and Glitnir-collapsed in late 2008, their former executives and owners have largely been living untroubled lives abroad. But the publication last month of a parliamentary inquiry into the island nation’s profound financial and economic crisis signaled a turning of the tide, laying much of the blame for the downfall on the former bank heads who had taken “inappropriate loans from the banks” they worked for....

LISBON-Portugal on Thursday ordered deep wage and spending cuts and higher taxes to slash the public deficit by more than half as Spanish unions called strikes against public sector wage cuts.As governments stepped up their war on debt, German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that the whole European Union would be under threat if the euro was allowed to fail in the debt crisis. But global shares mainly rose as markets took cheer from efforts made so far by governments to control deficits. After Greece's financial turmoil and debt downgrade to junk status, international attention has turned to Portugal and Spain, which have also had their debt ratings lowered....

Scientists stunned as grey whale sighted off Israel...
JERUSALEM-The appearance of a grey whale off the coast of Israel has stunned scientists, in what was thought to be the first time the giant mammal has been seen outside the Pacific in several hundred years. The whale, which was first sighted off Herzliya in central Israel on Saturday, is believed to have travelled thousands of miles from the north Pacific after losing its way in search of food."It's an unbelievable event which has been described as one of the most important whale sightings ever," said Dr Aviad Scheinin, chairman of the Israel Marine Mammal Research and Assistance Center which identified the creature.A population of grey whales once inhabited the north Atlantic but became extinct in the 17th or 18th centuries and has not been seen there since....
