Veterans lament too many Americans forgot meaning of Memorial Day

New Yorkers paid tribute to veterans Sunday with somber ceremonies, traditional parades - and an ear-splitting helicopter demonstration."It was totally awesome," said Tom Kobel, 47, a mechanic from Bayside, Queens, who was among spectators watching Marines land four helicopters in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. "You get to see what the guys go through, and it makes you appreciate what they're doing for us." Several hundred people turned out to see groups of leathernecks jumping out of a CH-46e Sea Knight, an MV-22 Osprey and two AH-1W Cobra gunships as though landing in a combat zone....
