Iraqi shoe thrower released; says he was tortured

BAGHDAD – The Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at former President George W. Bush in protest was freed from prison on Tuesday and, unrepentant, he harshly condemned the U.S. presence in his country and accused authorities of torturing him.Muntadhar al-Zeidi's stunning act of protest in December made him a hero for many in and outside Iraq. It struck a chord with millions in the Arab and Muslim worlds who have been captivated and angered by daily images of destruction and grieving since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.But nine months later, there was little public outpouring of support for him, a sign of how things have changed.Since the incident, U.S. forces have pulled back from Iraq's cities, significantly lowering the profile of the U.S. military ahead of a planned full withdrawal from the country....

Obama promised Jewish homes to Palestinians...?:Official says American president 'fed up' with Israel

President Obama is "fed up" with Israel while his administration has given the Palestinians guarantees they will eventually take over Jewish homes and buildings throughout most of the West Bank, a top Palestinian Authority official claimed to WND."We heard from the U.S. that no matter what Israel is building in the West Bank, it will not affect a final status agreement to create a Palestinian state," said the PA official, who spoke on condition his name be withheld. "The Americans told us (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu might construct in the West Bank for now but we (Palestinians) can enjoy these houses later. The evacuated homes will not be destroyed like some were when Israel pulled out of Gaza," the official said. The official said Obama has adopted the position of PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who presented a plan to create a Palestinian state within two years based largely on the 1967 borders, meaning Israel would retreat from the West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem....

Did Obama call on Israel to vacate Temple Mount...?:Israeli politicians accuse president of 'misrepresenting history' in U.N. speech

Did President Obama yesterday adopt U.N. and Palestinian phraseology while calling on Israel to give up the biblical West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount?
Some members of the Israeli government here reacted angrily to Obama's strongly worded demand – expressed during his speech to the U.N. General Assembly – for the creation of a "viable, independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967"...

You can see most anything at Times Square in Manhattan.
But 60,000 people praying? That's an unusual sight in the heart of Broadway.
Yet, that's just what happened there yesterday for one hour – from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in a Christian rally called Prayer in the Square.
Event organizers from Time Square Church had expected some 15,000. But their expectations were far exceeded at the third event of its kind in the last three years.....

"Remember, the communist leaders of Mao's China are not called the 'Butchers of Beijing' for nothing. Since seizing power in 1949, it is estimated that the communist government in China has murdered more than 50 million people (some reports say the number is over 70 million)"....

Empire State Building's Lighting for China’s 60th Draws Criticism

The Empire State Building in New York City will glow red and yellow Wednesday night to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. New York's tallest skyscraper regularly changes its iconic lighting for holidays and events. But this time, the building's choice of occasions to celebrate is drawing more attention than usual, and backlash primarily from conservative bloggers.
"What's next, Marx, Lenin and Trotsky's birthday's too?" one blogger wrote.
"What about Allah while we're honoring our enemies under the 'Commie Obammie' administration?"
Another: "While we're at it, let's light up the Rockefellor Center with a big swastika on red lights?"
Others blamed the ESB's color scheme on President Obama: "I thought by 'change' that President Obama meant socialized healthcare, higher taxes, and a bloated nanny-state there to take care of my every need. But not this!"
The China-friendly lighting will be in place from Sept. 30-Oct. 1. At 10 a.m. Wednesday, members of the Consul General of the People's Republic, including Consul General Peng Keyu, will "flip the light switch on a scale model of the Empire State Building"....
