This is a real victory:BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) A proposed North Dakota law says an abortion kills a human being, and that a human life begins at conception.The North Dakota House approved the measure Monday, despite the concerns of some lawmakers that it could go further than its supporters intend. Representative voted 61-31 to endorse the change, and it now goes to the North Dakota Senate.The measure says a woman’s egg becomes a human being when it is fertilized by a man’s sperm. It says a woman who is seeking an abortion must be told the procedure will kill a human being.
It’s a common sense definition.Life is a continuum of growth and development that begins at conception and continues until death.Trying to pick a point within that continuum which takes place in the first 9 months-such as the second trimester, or birth-to define as the point at which life (and all the rights that go along with being a living human being) begins is as absurd and arbitrary as picking a point later. Such as when the child starts to walk or eat solid foods.There is no valid, scientifically-sound basis for defining life as beginning at any point but conception.And,thankfully, a majority in the state House understands that.Now on to the Senate.Contact your Senators and tell them to support this bill.
