Legislative committee approves Ten Commandments display

A plan to erect a Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of Oklahoma's State Capitol has cleared a state House committee. State Representative Mike Ritze said his bill would authorize installation of a monument similar to the one that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled could remain on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. It would use the Ten Commandments text from the King James Version of the Bible. An opponent said the monument would alienate people who use different versions of the sScriptures and may violate the state constitution.Ritze said he believes the monument is needed because the nation has lost its moral compass and the Ten Commandments are a reminder of basic values.
