Conflicting Reports On The Size Of Obama’s Stimulus Emerge

The AP says the figure is to be around $850,000,000,000. CNN quotes anonymous Obama camp sources as saying it will be much less than that. Maybe around the $600,000,000,000 figure the Obama camp initially threw out.Because hey, what’s a few hundred billion of our tax dollars here or there?
What troubles me is that, if we split the difference between the low end and the high end of Obama’s “stimulus” spending, we still end up with him increasing government spending by 5% of our gross domestic product. Given that the 45-year average of military spending in this country is 5.5% of GDP, that’s an astounding figure.It’s like Obama spending our tax dollars on a whole new Army, Navy, Air Force, etc. And for what? Government make-work for the unemployed? Paying people to put CFL light bulbs in government buildings?
And that’s going to help the economy...how?
