Iran to receive auxiliary nuclear gear
A senior Iranian nuclear official says Russia is slated to send 1,000 tons of auxiliary nuclear equipment to the Islamic Republic. "Moscow has agreed to send 1,000 tons of auxiliary equipment necessary to complete the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant within the next four months," said Ahmad Fayaz-Bakhsh, the deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEO), on Friday. The Iranian official added that the power plant's construction has had substantial progress and anticipated the reactor to be fully operational in 2009. Russian nuclear officials have announced that preparations for the launch of the power plant have entered their final stage."Between December 2008 and February 2009, various technical measures will be carried out... that will make the physical start-up process of the first Bushehr reactor irreversible," the head of Atomstroyexport, Leonid Reznikov, said in September. Russia's Atomstroyexport has been helping Iran in the construction of a nuclear power plant capable of annually generating some 1,000 megawatts of electricity under a contract signed in 1995. The Russian company also trains Iranian specialists and has so far delivered eight fuel shipments to the reactor. Director General of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko, recently announced that Moscow will complete fuel supplies to Bushehr in late February."In February we will complete the supplies, and actual work with the fuel at the plant will start in July-August," he said.
