Iran: Citizens are not allowed to freely choose names for new born babies

NCRI-Mohammadreza Ayatollahi, head of the mullahs' Bureau of Vital Statistics (BVS) said 330,000 citizens chose the name "Abulfazel" for their male new born babies last year."In pervious years, 'Mohammad' was the most popular name for baby boys,"Aytollahi said."Fatemeh" is the most popular name for baby girls on the other hand. There is a list of "Islamic and Persian names" prepared by the local offices of the bureau for the citizens to choose a name for their new comers," Ayatollahi told the state television."However, in the case that parents prefer a different name then they should fill out a special form obtaining permission from the 'Council of Names' which is operating in the central offices of BVS in each province," Ayatollahi said.In some cases parents prefer names that are insulting to "Islamic values,"then it is the responsibility of BVS not to authorize such names,Ayatollahi added."Some parents choose names that do not sound right and are contrary to our values. Then we have to take the matter seriously and encourage the couple to refrain from doing so," Ayatollah said at the end.The mullahs' regime does not allow freedom of choice when it comes to naming babies. Interfering in the most private matters of Iranian people's lives has generated an enormous hatred toward the ruling clerics.
