Back in June I posted about an Obama campaign commercial which led voters to believe that Barack had been raised in Kansas. I pointed out that Obama wasn’t, in fact, raised in Kansas but rather Hawaii by way of Indonesia. But apparently Obama’s bit of subterfuge worked because a significant number of Americans told pollsters that they liked the commercial about Obama’s childhood in Kansas:
When asked about specific commercials, those tested for each candidate registered about similar recall levels - 41% of Pew’s respondents said they have seen McCain’s commercial that compares Barack Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Almost the same number - (43%) report seeing Barack Obama’s commercial where he talks about his background growing up in Kansas.
Personally, I don’t care much where Obama grew up.But I’d like the candidate to at least be honest about it.After all, this misleading Obama campaign ad apparently left an impression on 43% of poll respondents.
It’s not an insignificant point.
