HONOUR KILLING WATCH:Accused ‘Honor Killing’ Dad Has Day in Court

A Georgia man charged with killing his only daughter for disgracing the family will appear in court Friday.Police say Chaudhry Rashid, 56, confessed to killing Sandeela Kanwal because she was seeking a divorce from her estranged husband.Rashid, originally from Pakistan, speaks primarily Urdu and Punjabi. He was arrested after his 25-year-old daughter was found strangled to death with a bungee cord in the family's Jonesboro, Ga., home.According to the arrest warrant, Rashid told police through an interpreter that, as a practicing Muslim, his daughter’s divorce would be against his religion and would shame his family, FOX News affiliate MyFOX Atlanta reported.Rashid’s lawyers have denied the confession, and Rashid is expected to plead not guilty to murder charges in the alleged honor killing,according to MyFOXAtlanta.com.Kanwal reportedly wed in Pakistan in an arranged marriage.Police said she hadn't seen her husband, who lives in Chicago, for months before her death.
