4 years of Obama too much, says Bauer

A pro-family activist and former presidential candidate says people of faith cannot afford to endure four years of Barack Obama in hopes that he will be defeated in 2012. Gary Bauer says it's all about the Supreme Court. As Barack Obama continues to dominate head-to-head polls with Republican John McCain, many conservatives appear resigned to a November defeat with the hope that like Jimmy Carter, an Obama presidency will be so bad that he can be ousted after one term. But Bauer, who is chairman of American Values, says the American public cannot afford to wait four years. "Today we're only one vote away from having a pro-life, pro-family majority in the Supreme Court," he observes. "If Barack Obama is elected, that opportunity will lost, I believe, for several decades."In a recent message to his group's supporters, Bauer outlined how-if Democrat John Kerry had been elected in 2004-a "President Kerry" likely would have appointed liberals to the two vacancies that have since occurred on the Supreme Court, resulting in a probable 6-to-3 decision to ban handguns. The high court recently voted 5-to-4 affirming the Second Amendment. Bauer points out that all five of the justices voting in favor of an individual right to own a firearm were appointed by Republican presidents. "We need to wake up before this election or we're going to find out that on everything we care about-whether its same-sex 'marriage,' the sanctity of life, religious liberty, national security-we're going to have every branch of government controlled by the far left with devastating consequences for our families and for our country," states Bauer.
