Storm lashes Hong Kong, markets unlikely to open

HONG KONG-Tropical storm Fengshen struck Hong Kong on Wednesday after tearing through the Philippines last week, bringing driving rain, uprooting trees and likely closing schools, businesses, courts across the city.Markets will not open for trade on Wednesday, standard procedure after the wealthy city of 7 million raised its "signal 8" warning as gusts in outlying areas neared 186 kph, the government said in a statement.But financial markets may open for trading if the storm warning is lifted later in the day.Fengshen, downgraded from a typhoon this week, churned through the central Philippines on Saturday, triggering flashfloods, power outages and confusion after switching direction and veering towards southern China.At about 2200 GMT, it was centered about 40 km northeast of Hong Kong and headed north at about 14 kph.
