South Carolina Signs Bill Allowing Ten Commandments Displays

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina's governor has signed a bill to allow the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer to be part of displays at public buildings. His action comes after the attorney general issued his nonbinding opinion on the legislation that said displaying those type of documents should be allowed and would survive a court challenge. Attorney General Henry McMaster said the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer have an established place in teaching American constitutional history and civic virtue. He says they and other documents on display would teach morality, ethics and integrity. The bill would allow the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public buildings as part of a group of documents that helped set the foundations for U.S. law.Sanford allowed a bill to become law without his signature last week that puts a cross beside the words "I Believe" on license plates.
