Iran Blasts US Media for Fabricating News

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini on Thursday criticized US media for linking Iran to the terrorist attacks in Iraq.According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Bureau, Hosseini condemned the recent terrorist attack in Baghdad, criticizing certain US media reports alleging Iran support for Special Groups in the neighboring country."The US has given refuge to terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) on one hand and its media are misleading the public opinion by linking Iran to the terrorist bombings in Iraq on the other hand," Hosseini said.Such scenarios are part of the US misinformation campaign in Iraq and the allegations by occupiers are baseless and fabricated, he said, adding that the enemies try to tarnish Iranians' constructive and supportive role in the neighboring country which is backing the Iraqi democratic process, government and nation.According to the Iranian official, the 'baseless' notion that Tehran supports particular groups in the war-torn country was proposed by US intelligence services to damage the relations between the two Middle Eastern countries."The desperate efforts are considered only justification for the continued presence of occupied forces in Iraq, but they fail to undermine the firm relations between Iranians and Iraqis," Hosseini said. Condemning the recent terrorist attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Hosseini said, "Americans who so conspicuously support and direct terrorists, make such wild accusations only to strain the friendly relations between Iran and all factions in Iraq."He further reminded that the reason the Iraqi government does not confirm such reports is that they are, in fact, untrue.US media on Wednesday blamed Special Groups, which the US alleges are funded, trained and armed by Iran, for Tuesday's deadly car bombing that targeted a crowded area in the Shiite neighborhood of Hurriyah in Baghdad. The United States has never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate its allegations against Iran.
