SIGN of the TIMES:Ontario Premier Opposes Lord's Prayer before Legislative Sessions

TORONTO-Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says neither the wrath of his Catholic mother nor the thousands of e-mails and petitions from the public prove that the provincial Legislature should keep its tradition of opening sessions with the Lord's Prayer. At least one Jewish Conservative says the Liberal Party should listen to the more than 6,000 people who have written to the province about the proposal to replace the Lord's Prayer. But McGuinty says it's the government's job to lead and ensure that the daily reading reflects Ontario's diversity. When he was asked whether the public outcry made him think twice about floating the idea of scrapping the Lord's Prayer, McGuinty laughed and said, "This is not an easy thing for my mother."But he said Ontario's cultures and faiths are changing.
