Five Australian teens brandishing baseball bats and a machete have gone on a violent rampage through a high school.Police say at least 18 people were injured, including a teacher who had to be taken to hospital after being hit on the head with a bat.Five teens, aged between 14 and 16, were arrested and taken in for questioning. Detective Inspector Jim Stewart said they would likely be charged with assault, affray and malicious damage."It beggars belief they would attempt this kind of activity against innocent students," Det Insp Stewart said. The teens allegedly burst in on a morning assembly at the Merrylands High School in western Sydney.Students were rushed into classrooms by teachers as the teen attackers, who do not attend the school, smashed windows and equipment."They caused a considerable amount of damage," a police spokesman told reporters."There have been some assaults. But there are no serious injuries as a result of those assaults."When police arrived at the scene the teens reportedly handed over their weapons without a struggle.Authorities said many worried parents rushed to the school after hearing media reports of the attack.
