A woman seeking an abortion in Florida would have the right to an ultrasound and the option of seeing an image of her preborn baby, under a bill that passed the state House on Wednesday. A similar measure is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate next week, the Miami Herald reported.Florida requires ultrasounds before a second- or third-trimester abortion; this bill would add a first-trimester requirement, as well. Adam Goldman, vice president for legislative affairs at Florida Right to Life, said: "Studies have shown significant rates of mothers changing their minds and deciding against obtaining an abortion" after an ultrasound.The House also endorsed a fetal homicide bill that creates a separate murder charge for anyone who causes the death of a preborn baby through an act of violence against a pregnant woman.FOR MORE INFORMATION
