Christian Rights Ministries (CRM) carried a 12-foot cross in Chesapeake’s 2007 Independence Day parade. When participants set up booths in a park after the parade, city officials ordered CRM to remove the cross from its booth because it was “offensive”and “blatantly Christian.”"Christians shouldn’t be penalized for expressing their beliefs," ADF Senior Counsel Nate Kellum said. "Government officials have no right to harass or threaten citizens for exercising their First Amendment rights in public. Christians have the same free speech rights as anyone else in America."
