Anti-Semitic incidents are down across Florida for the second consecutive year, according to a report released Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League.Reported incidents in the state decreased from 179 in 2006 to 127 in 2007, a 29 percent drop. Nationwide, incidents were down by 10 percent.''The good news is that incidents of anti-Semitism in Florida seem to be declining,'' said Andrew Rosenkranz, Florida regional director for the ADL."The bad news is that anti-Semitism is still embedded in our society, and that is unacceptable.''Like last year, Florida ranked fourth in the nation with its number of anti-Semitic incidents, the report found.Swastikas were present in 14 percent of all incidents. In Pembroke Pines, for example, swastikas were painted on the walls of a clubhouse in January 2007. In August, a swastika was scrawled on a synagogue in Boca Raton. The report found that 13 percent of incidents took place in public schools. Swastikas were scratched on lockers and bathrooms.College incidents included a mezuzah being ripped off a dorm room door and someone writing ''Jews kill children'' in a bathroom, both at Miami campuses. The ADL's annual report compiles information from victims, law enforcement and community leaders and includes criminal acts, like vandalism, violence and threats, as well as incidents like harassment and intimidation.
