Transgender activists will descend on Capitol Hill next month to lobby members of Congress to include "gender identity and expression" in the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which bans workplace discrimination based on "sexual orientation," passed the House last November, but the homosexual employment bill still awaits a vote in the Senate. In preparation for the lobbying effort, the National Center for Transgender Equality will be holding "lobby training" and policy briefings on April 14 in Washington. The following day, transgender activists and their supporters plan to meet with members of Congress and urge them to back special workplace protections for transgender adults.They will also hold a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol. Peter LaBarbera of the group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality says it is a radical idea to create civil rights based on gender confusion.He also calls Christians to speak the truth in love to gender-confused people."I don't think you can watch this movement without just having such pity on these poor men and women who are so gender-confused.It just makes my heart grieve.I think Christians everywhere need to reach out to these people and tell them that the body that God gave them is what God intended to give them,"LaBarbera contends.The activist believes people who suffer from gender confusion commit "the ultimate rebellion"by changing their gender instead of living with the body God made for them.LaBarbera says, by introducing themselves to lawmakers, transgender activists are hoping they will attract the same level of sympathy homosexual activists have received in Washington.However, he believes support from Congress could create difficult changes for the workplace.
