Complaints dismissed against Christian pharmacist in Montana

The Montana Board of Pharmacy has dropped all complaints against Christian pharmacist John Lane who declined to dispense a pill that many believe causes abortions.Eleven complaints were filed against Lane because he chose not to sell contraceptives and the "morning-after pill" at his store in Broadus. During a meeting of the pharmacy board,Lane was found innocent of charges that he violated state law.Gary McCaleb, senior legal counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, says pharmacists and medical professionals in all states face similar issues. He believes "no professionals should have to violate their consciences to exercise their professions, especially when it comes to an issue like taking innocent human life."Neither the government nor an employer, according to McCaleb, should make people choose between their faith and their job. "Americans have long recognized that citizens can refuse even to go to war to defend our country and avoid killing an enemy soldier, and if that is well-protected by the rights of conscience, then surely declining to participate in taking innocent human life should be protected,"McCaleb points out. McCaleb says respecting the right not to sell contraceptives does not impose an ideology on anyone.
