Iranian adviser calls for cooperation on nuclear fuel, fighting drugs

The United States and other Western nations should stop accusing Iran over its nuclear capabilities and meddling with its human rights issues, and should instead cooperate with Tehran, such as in securing nuclear fuel resources and fighting drug trafficking, Iran's top judiciary adviser said Wednesday.Mohammad Javad Larijani, a former deputy foreign minister, also told Kyodo News in an interview in Tokyo that his government is continuing efforts to gain the release of a kidnapped Japanese college student while stressing the difficulty in dealing with the "dangerous" and "fully armed" bandits. On international criticism of Iran's nuclear development program, Larijani repeated Tehran's stance that it is not for military use and that Iran has its rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.[[["Capability is something you cannot take away from a country," he said. "Our nuclear capability is a truth but we should not be punished because we are capable.""Japan is right now a capable country, but is not a threat to the world. The same is true for Iran,"]]]ha ha ha Larijani said, also noting that Japan already has more than 50 nuclear plants while Iran is planning to have its first one enter full operation in less than a year.Instead, the United States and other nations that criticize Iran should cooperate with it in areas such as access to fuel for the reactors, as well as improving the safety and security of power plants."The more we have reliable access, the less need for us to enrich uranium for fuel," he said."Disarmament is something that the United States should practice, especially in the area of the Middle East. Why is Israel having nuclear weapons?" he protested.Larijani also dismissed Western criticism of Iran's human rights situation, saying, [[["Unfortunately most of that is based on political incentive and otherwise a lack of concern for the difference in culture. Not all the world is Europe and not all the cultural structure is European culture."(right...BUT most of the west is pretty much civilized, and has been for a while now)]]]"We have international obligations and we adhere to them," he added. "We are not going to ignore our cultural differences.[[["Citing executions as an example of criticism aimed at Iran, he noted that "a good number of" countries, including Japan and the United States, also implement executions."Human rights should be saved from political meddling,"he said.]]]yep BUT we execute criminals after they ahve been proved guilty after a regular trial, whereas in Iran, they "say" that they had a "trial" and they would consider criminals EVEN to christians...We dont stone people or cut their heads off....But Larijani stopped short of commenting on the issue of execution by stoning, a key issue of international human rights concern. As for fighting narcotics and other organized crimes, the Iranian official called for cooperation "with the West and other countries concerned."[[["Fighting narcotics should not be done by Iran alone because these narcotics are mostly headed toward the West,"]]]yep...Iran is PARADISE...no drug addicts, and no gays....!!!! he said. "The best thing is collective work for surveillance of the border, information and intelligence reports on trafficking routes and also to fight them together."Larijani is scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura on Thursday, where they are expected to discuss political issues of mutual interest as well as cooperation in the areas of human rights, judiciary affairs and scientific research.
