Violent crime in the United States fell nearly two percent in the first half of 2007 compared to the same period one year earlier, preliminary data from the FBI showed Monday."The nation experienced a 1.8 percent decrease in violent crime and a 2.6 percent decrease in property crime during the first six months of 2007 compared to the same period in 2006," the FBI's Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report said."Murder decreased 1.1 percent, forcible rape declined 6.1 percent, robbery decreased 1.2 percent, and aggravated assault decreased 1.7 percent," according to the report, which is based on data supplied by nearly 12,000 law enforcement agencies.Property crime showed an across-the-board decrease for the period, with burglary down 1.3 percent, theft declining 2.1 percent, and motor vehicle theft down 7.4 percent, the report showed."Any time we show a decrease in crime, we're glad that's happening," said FBI spokesman Bill Carter."But you can make the analogy of a flood, where the waters peaked at 10 feet and are back down to eight. The floodwaters are still there, and we have to keep working to bring them down further," he said.http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080107191218.tinuq0dg&show_article=1
