Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., has introduced a bill to ban "horrifying" experiments that fuse human cells with animal cells to create embryos. This week, Focus on the Family sent a letter to senators, urging them to co-sponsor the important legislation. In Britain, one branch of government has already signed off on the dangerous technology, which is seen as an alternative to harvesting human eggs for cloning experiments. “To suggest it’s appropriate to use animal or human eggs and combine them with animal or human sperm, which is one of the proposals in the new (British) legislation, is absolutely horrifying," said Josephine Quintavalle, co-founder of Comment on Reproductive Ethics.Wesley J. Smith, a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute, said legislation is needed before U.S. scientists jump on board.“We want a powerful and vibrant science sector," he said, "but there are ethical parameters that we need in this research.”Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said: "Senators on both sides of the aisle should be eager to support this legislation.
