CULTURE of DEATH:Maker of Abortion Drug Made Tainted Leukemia Pills Causing Paralysis

Washington, DC-The Chinese government-owned pharmaceutical company that makes the abortion drug sold to thousands of women in the United States also manufactures a contaminated leukemia drug that has caused paralysis in hundreds of people. The news is a concern to pro-life advocates who say the drug is already dangerous enough. The company, Shanghai Hualian, has caused a scandal in China with the leukemia drug and officials there have already arrested people behind the problems and began a sweeping investigation. Shanghai Hualian is the sole maker of the mifepristone abortion drug that Danco Laboratories distributes to women in the United States.A New York Times report on Thursday indicates the drug is made at a different factory but just an hour's drive from the plant that makes the contaminated leukemia pills.According to the Times, FDA officials refused to talk about the problems in China and referred to a statement saying the abortion drug plant had been inspected in May and no problems were found.“F.D.A. is not aware of any evidence to suggest the issue that occurred at the leukemia drug facility is linked in any way with the facility that manufactures the mifepristone,” the FDA said.LifeNews.com contacted the agency and officials referred to the same statement given to the Times. Additionally, a request for comment LifeNews.com sent to Danco Labs was not returned, nor were two calls the Times made to the company. The Times contacted Zhou Qun, who heads up drug inspections in China and she said the plant has been inspected several times recently. It noted that records show Shanghai Hualian official Gu Yaoming met with FDA inspectors in May for a routine probe of the plant.Meanwhile, China's food and drug administration has stripped Shanghai Hualian of its license to manufacture antitumor drugs, but the decision did not affect the production of the abortion pill. That abortion drugs coming into the United States from China may be tainted is of serious concern given new reports showing the number of women using them is rising. As LifeNews.com recently reported, more women are opting for the drug-induced abortion rather than the surgical abortion procedure.According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a Planned Parenthood affiliate, about 13 percent of all abortions involve mifepristone-a number that may seem low but it is double the number of women who used the abortion drug in 2001.The report also showed that 57 percent of places that do abortions now have the abortion drug, compared with just 33 percent in 2001. And 80 percent of businesses solely devoted to abortions now give out the abortion drug to women.Danco Laboratories said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained that the number of women using the abortion drug would increase as they opt for abortions earlier in pregnancy.Ultimately, Danco indicated that 840,000 women in the United States have had abortions with its dangerous drug.Despite its claims that mifepristone is "a safe and effective, private option for ending early pregnancy" it acknowledged that "serious and sometimes fatal infections and bleeding occur."Those fatal infections have led to six American women losing their lives following the use of the abortion drug. Also known as mifepristone or Mifeprex, the drug has killed thirteen women worldwide and injured thousands in the U.S. alone.Danco Laboratories has been granted an exclusive license from the Population Council, a pro-abortion group, to market and distribute Mifeprex in the United States.
