Christian alliance calls for personal, corporate repentance

A coalition of evangelical, charismatic, and Pentecostal leaders across the country is joining forces in calling for a true spiritual awakening in the United States.The coalition is called the Awakening America Alliance. Billy Wilson, executive cabinet chairman with the Alliance, says the church in America has been asleep too long."We want to issue a call for the real need in America, which is way beyond the political scene and is a deep spiritual need," explains Wilson. "That all of us in the Body of Christ can join together around the need of a new generation to know Jesus as their Savior, and the need of the church to shake off the spirit of apathy and slumber and really wake up to what Christ wants to do in our country."The first event of the new year is called "21 Days for a New Awakening" and asks believers to fast for the first three weeks of 2008. The alliance is also planning a nationwide prayer meeting for all 3,141 counties in the U.S. on September 11, 2008.
