Signs and Wonders Transform Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia -Churches in Africa and Asia pioneered a worldwide prayer movement, and now it's having an impact on countries where Christianity has been in decline for decades. For example,in the U.K., the lame can walk, the blind can see, cancer is healed. One woman testified how a tumor popped out of her body! And never before have the Indonesian churches experienced such great signs and wonders. In the recent Todd Bentley healing crusade, many people received miraculous healing from God.The healings aren't limited to the meetings of popular church leaders. Locals have been endowed with the same spiritual gift.In a remote village in Palu, Sulawesi, people flocked to healing sessions led by a young Christian evangelist. Both Christians and Muslims testify receiving their healing after being prayed over by 8-year-old Selcin.Selcin's parents have barred media from taking videos of their daughter. Witnesses also say healings are taking place in the middle of their worship.Andy Tjokro, youth pastor of Bethel Church, believes Indonesia will experience radical spiritual increase this year. He says revival came to his church after Dr. Pat Robertson's prophesy at the beginning of this year."In January our church received a message from Pat Robertson, CBN in America about the extraordinary miracles,"Pastor Andy Tjokro, youth pastor at Bethel Church Indonesia, said."In six months, the church of God around the world will receive extraordinary miracles.Pat also shared about the open heaven. The earth will experience what's going to happen in heaven. We just received that message and since January, we can see a lot of changes in Indonesia."Even the youth in the Christian churches are experiencing revival. These young believers attended a recent Jesus revolution festival led by Filipino Pastor, Jerome Ocampo. They're now praying with more passion and intensity.Gatherings like these are now common everywhere in Indonesia where young people gather together, pour out their hearts to God, and pray to Him, asking Hod to make them history makers of their land."I am excited to share about the love of Jesus with my friends in the campus," student Michell Hutauruk said."I dream that someday the whole Indonesia will know Jesus Christ as Lord."Alex Abraham Tanuseputra is the pastor of Bethany Church Indonesia, one of the largest Christian churches in the country. He believes the disasters that have plagued Indonesia in recent years have ushered in spiritual revival."We prayed for a long time for Indonesia. Disasters in this country- start from tsunami, earthquake,floods...it's a sign that it's the beginning of the harvest," Pastor Abraham Tanuseputra said. Tanuseputra is the founder and head pastor of Bethany Church in Indonesia.Christians of all ages are joining together to spread the good news of God's salvation. They believe their prayers will be answered, that total transformation may soon come to the biggest Muslim nation in the world.

Most professors hold unfavorable view of evangelicals, study says

The majority of professors at America's colleges and universities hold an unfavorable view of evangelical Christians that leads to prejudice and intolerance in the classroom, a recent study on educators' religious opinions confirmed.Evangelicals were the only major religious denomination to be viewed negatively by a majority of faculty, the study released May 7 by the Institute for Jewish & Community Research noted.Among non-evangelical university faculty, 53 percent in a sampling of 1,200 said they held an unfavorable view of evangelical Christians while expressing positive feelings toward most other religious groups. One professor said he attributes the disdain for evangelicals to their Republican Party activism and their perceived opposition to science.Gary Tobin, the institute's director and chief pollster, said the results undoubtedly reveal "bias and prejudice"among the nation's educational leaders."If a majority of faculty said they did not feel warmly about Muslims or Jews or Latinos or African Americans, there would be an outcry," Tobin told The Washington Post."No one would attempt to justify or explain those feelings. No one would say, 'The reason they feel this way is because they don't like the politics of blacks or the politics of Jews.'That would be unthinkable."Tobin found that 71 percent of faculty members agreed with the statement:"This country would be better off if Christian fundamentalists kept their religious beliefs out of politics."...

Rival to evolution may enter schools

INTELLIGENT DESIGN, a controversial alternative theory to evolution, could become part of the science curriculum in Scottish schools.
The Sunday Herald has learned that the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is considering provision for the theory as part of a review of the science course curriculum.Intelligent design (ID) is one of a wide range of theories of origin currently taught as part of the Religious, Moral and Philosophy Studies (RMPS) SQA course, but could be moved elsewhere as part of the review. A spokesman for the SQA said: "It happens to sit in RMPS just now. If and when it does becomes part of the curriculum for science, which it may well do as part of this review, then that's where it could sit."Scientists have already expressed fears that ID theory is entering science classrooms. An organisation called Truth in Science (TiS) sent teaching resource packs to every head of science in Scottish schools in September 2006. The material critiques the Darwinian theory of natural selection and promotes the idea that biological mechanisms are best explained by the idea of an intelligent designer.Professor Andrew McIntosh, a director of Truth in Science, said: "We've had a lot of positive feedback about the DVDs, which included Scottish schools. There are quite a number of people who are indicating they are happy to use the resources."
Dr Simon Gage, director of the Edinburgh Science Festival, believes the influence of Truth in Science and ID theory is "worrying and dangerous". He said: "This is creationism with a wrapper on it, dressed up as pseudo-science. These people prey on ignorance and should be forbidden at the school door."Ian Fraser, director of education for Inverclyde, is not in favour of prohibiting Truth in Science material and accepts teachers are free to present ID informally. He said: "I have no objection to intelligent design being advanced as one theory, but most teachers don't have time. I trust head teachers to make their own decisions about what is appropriate."

The southern San Andreas fault is 10 months pregnant

The Big One is Long Overdue, But Don't Worry...
Southern California fault lines have shaken more in recent weeks than they did for most of the past year. But experts say don't worry: Though the Big One is long overdue, the recent quakes don't necessarily mean it's coming today. In April, Southern California registered two weeks with 45 quakes of magnitude 2 or above. It's the first time in almost a year that the region experienced back-to-back weeks of more than 40 tremors a week, according to geologist Charles Watson, who compiles the syndicated column Seismo-Watch."There's no reason to be alarmed by the current level of seismic activity," said Doug Given, a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey."It's quite common. In any random process, there will be times you get more of what you're measuring and times you get less.If there were some pattern of seismic activity that tipped off a larger earthquake, we'd know about it."Such "background seismicity" like what has been recorded in Southern California fluctuates constantly, Watson said."We see this thing commonly," said Kate Hutton, a leading seismologist at the California Institute of Technology's Seismological Laboratory in Pasadena. "It's sort of like our weather. We have wet years and dry years."Officials measure anywhere from 20 to 30 quakes a day in Southern California, Given said. Typically those measure at least 1.8 on the Richter scale, since smaller earthquakes aren't always picked up by detection equipment. The Coachella Valley's last big quake was in June 2005 - a magnitude-5.2 that hit near Anza. It's a false notion that those smaller tremors are good because they postpone larger quakes. Officials say they actually release little of the earth's pressure. And it's also a false notion that a lot of smaller shakes means a larger quake is coming any day now. Officials say sometimes it does - but sometimes it doesn't.The joy and curse of earthquakes is that they're unpredictable. But what is known is that the Coachella Valley is long overdue for a massive quake. It's been more than 325 years since the one hit the section of the San Andreas fault that runs along the foothills of the Coachella Valley, from the Banning Pass to the Salton Sea.As Thomas Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Center, said in January: "The southern San Andreas fault is 10 months pregnant."Whether or not the region's earthquake frequency keeps picking up - or even if it drops off - experts say it's always good to be earthquake prepared just in case."Something is bound to shake loose eventually," Watson said. "It's ominous. It's something that's out there."

Activists Want Chimp Declared a 'Person'

VIENNA, Austria (AP)-In some ways, Hiasl is like any other Viennese: He indulges a weakness for pastry, likes to paint and enjoys chilling out watching TV.But he doesn't care for coffee, and he isn't actually a person-at least not yet.
In a case that could set a global legal precedent for granting basic rights to apes, animal rights advocates are seeking to get the 26- year-old male chimpanzee legally declared a "person."
Hiasl's supporters argue he needs that status to become a legal entity that can receive donations and get a guardian to look out for his interests."Our main argument is that Hiasl is a person and has basic legal rights," said Eberhart Theuer, a lawyer leading the challenge on behalf of the Association Against Animal Factories, a Vienna animal rights group."We mean the right to life, the right to not be tortured, the right to freedom under certain conditions," Theuer said."We're not talking about the right to vote here."The campaign began after the animal sanctuary where Hiasl (pronounced HEE-zul) and another chimp, Rosi, have lived for 25 years went bankrupt.Activists want to ensure the apes don't wind up homeless if the shelter closes. Both have already suffered: They were captured as babies in Sierra Leone in 1982 and smuggled in a crate to Austria for use in pharmaceutical experiments. Customs officers intercepted the shipment and turned the chimps over to the shelter.Their food and veterinary bills run about $6,800 a month. Donors have offered to help, but there's a catch: Under Austrian law, only a person can receive personal donations.Organizers could set up a foundation to collect cash for Hiasl, whose life expectancy in captivity is about 60 years. But without basic rights, they contend, he could be sold to someone outside Austria, where the chimp is protected by strict animal cruelty laws."If we can get Hiasl declared a person, he would have the right to own property. Then, if people wanted to donate something to him, he'd have the right to receive it," said Theuer, who has vowed to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights if necessary.Austria isn't the only country where primate rights are being debated. Spain's parliament is considering a bill that would endorse the Great Ape Project, a Seattle-based international initiative to extend "fundamental moral and legal protections" to apes.If Hiasl gets a guardian, "it will be the first time the species barrier will have been crossed for legal 'personhood,'" said Jan Creamer, chief executive of Animal Defenders International, which is working to end the use of primates in research.Paula Stibbe, a Briton who teaches English in Vienna, petitioned a district court to be Hiasl's legal trustee. On April 24, Judge Barbara Bart rejected her request, ruling Hiasl didn't meet two key tests: He is neither mentally impaired nor in an emergency.Although Bart expressed concern that awarding Hiasl a guardian could create the impression that animals enjoy the same legal status as humans, she didn't rule that he could never be considered a person.Martin Balluch, who heads the Association Against Animal Factories, has asked a federal court for a ruling on the guardianship issue.
"Chimps share 99.4 percent of their DNA with humans," he said. "OK, they're not homo sapiens. But they're obviously also not things-the only other option the law provides."Not all Austrian animal rights activists back the legal challenge. Michael Antolini, president of the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said he thinks it's absurd."I'm not about to make myself look like a fool" by getting involved, said Antolini, who worries that chimpanzees could gain broader rights, such as copyright protections on their photographs. But Stibbe, who brings Hiasl sweets and yogurt and watches him draw and clown around by dressing up in knee-high rubber boots, insists he deserves more legal rights "than bricks or apples or potatoes.""He can be very playful but also thoughtful," she said. "Being with him is like playing with someone who can't talk."A date for the appeal hasn't been set, but Hiasl's legal team has lined up expert witnesses, including Jane Goodall, the world's foremost observer of chimpanzee behavior."When you see Hiasl, he really comes across as a person," Theuer said."He has a real personality. It strikes you immediately: This is an individual. You just have to look him in the eye to see that."

PS:Well...this is almost too much for a saturday night writting!!!This is so funny and so pathetic at the same time...Evolution lovers are going wacko in Europe!!!Even if chimps DNA is 99.4% shared with humans, guess what???They are still 0.06% SHORT!!!Of course they are not things!they are ANIMALS!!!!That's why the chimp cannot go himself to the court house and represent himself before the judge!!!
This is TOO LOONIE for me....!!!WEll that's what evolution does to real people!

PESTILENCE WATCH:River blindness parasite resisting treatment

The parasite that causes river blindness appears to be developing resistance to the only drug widely available to treat it, researchers said on Thursday. They said their findings raise concerns of a resurgence of a disease that has been effectively controlled in many parts of Africa.River blindness or onchocerciasis is an eye and skin disease caused by the filaria worm. It is transmitted to humans by blackflies breeding along fast-flowing tropical rivers and streams. In humans, the adult female worm produces thousands of baby or larval worms that spread throughout the body, causing skin lesions and blindness. The disease affects 18 million people worldwide. It has been controlled for nearly two decades through annual doses of a drug developed by Merck & Co. called ivermectin, or Mectizan, which also treats the severe skin itching caused by the disease.Researchers at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, writing in the journal The Lancet, report that the parasite is starting to resist treatment with ivermectin."Because it doesn't eliminate the parasite, it requires treatment at least every year, and that doesn't get rid of it. It just reduces transmission," said Roger Prichard of the Institute of Parasitology, who led the study."With resistance, that breaks down and we expect to see the disease becoming a problem again," he said.

ISLAMIC INVASION WATCH:Islamic pressure in Paris forces evangelical congregation to vacate building

After a long struggle against Islamic intimidation, an evangelical church in the outskirts of Paris has been forced to vacate the 1,000-square-foot facility where it had been meeting. The Temple de Paris Church has been located in the Paris suburb of Bagnolet. Christine Thabot, the wife of the pastor, says Muslims have been trying to get rid of them since 2005, but local authorities had permitted the church to remain in the facility, paying 8,000 euros a month (~ $9,400 U.S.) in rent.According to Thabot, the Muslims changed their strategy. "They attacked our owner this time," she explains. "They took up the case and [told him he was] not allowed to have this church open-and on Friday we [were told] that we had to get out of our premises."
Thabot says Temple de Paris Church has been unable to secure another worship center. "For an evangelical or Protestant church, it is almost next to impossible to buy or to rent any premises," she says. "As soon as they find out you are a church, there is nothing open to us."
Thabot says many churches in the area have been closed and have had similar difficulties in securing new facilities. But she claims Muslims can secure property for building a mosque simply by paying one euro to the authorities.

Public school 'exit strategy' advocates say campaign will continue

Supporters of an exit strategy for Christians in the public school system say the idea is gaining momentum, even though the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) didn't consider the issue during its regular business meeting.A proposed resolution encouraging SBC churches to consider starting Christian schools, and making those schools available to those who could not afford to attend, did not emerge from the denomination's Resolutions Committee during the just completed 2007 Annual Meeting in San Antonio. Still, Bruce Shortt, who helped draft the resolution-as well as several that have passed in previous meetings-says many people have changed their opinion of government-run public schools since the campaign began."I think the awareness today is tremendous among lay parents and pastors alike," Shortt says. "I think that the climate of opinion is changing-people are beginning to recognize that the public schools are not neutral, and what we really need to do as Christians is create a new public school system."Resolutions Committee members said they felt the issue had been dealt with during past business meetings.

Media Ignores President’s Commemoration of the Deaths of 100 Million Victims to Communism

On Tuesday President Bush condemned the past and present evils of communism during the official commemoration of a new memorial. Shaped like a woman holding a flame, the statue was dedicated in honor of over 100 million people who died within just one century as the result of communism.During his commemoration speech, the president said that the number of victims sacrificed to this ideology is “staggering”. Communism has swept through many nations, including China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, Africa, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Eastern Europe.Bush commented, “Some of Communism's victims are well-known. They include a Swedish diplomat named Raoul Wallenberg, who saved 100,000 Jews from the Nazis, only to be arrested on Stalin's orders and sent to Moscow's Lubyanka Prison, where he disappeared without a trace. They include a Polish priest named Father Popieluszko, who made his Warsaw church a sanctuary for the Solidarity underground, and was kidnapped, and beaten, and drowned in the Vitsula by the secret police”Addressing a crowd that included ambassadors, diplomats and many who had suffered under communist rule, Bush compared communists to the radical terrorists of September 11, 2001. He also pointed out that the battle for the life of innocent people still continues today.
Bush said that “We dedicate this memorial because we have an obligation to future generations to record the crimes of the 20th century and ensure they're never repeated. In this hallowed place we recall the great lessons of the Cold War: that freedom is precious and cannot be taken for granted; that evil is real and must be confronted; and that given the chance, men commanded by harsh and hateful ideologies will commit unspeakable crimes and take the lives of millions.”Following a burst of applause, the president also stated, “By remaining steadfast in freedom's cause, we will ensure that a future American President does not have to stand in a place like this and dedicate a memorial to the millions killed by the radicals and extremists of the 21st century.”During his concluding remarks, the president explained that the new memorial is a symbol of hope and freedom. “Just like our Statue of Liberty,” he said, “She reminds us that the flame for freedom burns in every human heart, and that it is a light that cannot be extinguished by the brutality of terrorists or tyrants.”

Mexico City Pushes for Legalized Prostitution

The Party of the Democratic Revolution (PDR), the ruling party of the Mexico City Federal District, submitted a bill on Tuesday that would make prostitution legal within Mexico City.Juan Bustos, head of the assembly’s Human Rights Commission, brought forward the bill, reports the Los Angeles Chronicle. He defended the proposed legislation by claiming that it is an attempt to control the widespread street prostitution and child sex-traffic that already takes place within Mexico City. An estimated 50,000 sex workers live within the city, he said (although specific numbers are difficult to pinpoint). The PDR argues that prostitution needs legal recognition in order for the government to put “safety” restrictions into place. According to the Chronicle, the new legislation will allow prostitution “in designated areas at least roughly 1,000 feet from schools, parks, churches and apartment complexes, though pimping would remain a crime. It also would require prostitutes to adhere to health standards or face punishments similar to those under the current law.”
The Mexico City government claims that these new measures would tighten-up prostitution, thereby improving the living conditions of prostitutes. However, this proposal ignores many of the negative impacts of legalized prostitution.Several other countries have either changed their laws to re-criminalize prostitution or else seriously considered doing so. They found that legalizing prostitution did not benefit sex-workers or improve their standard of living. In Sweden, for example, legalized prostitution came hand in hand with a boom in the illegal drug trade. Drug addiction soared until finally the Swedish government was forced to make prostitution illegal once again after 30 years.“We have to discourage this (prostitution), so that more women will not even think about becoming sex workers,” the Associated Press quoted Mariana Gomez del Campo, head of National Action in Mexico City. “We have to try to recover values.”

Mocking Noah and the ark

Dear friends:Jesus said the rapture would be "as in the days of Noah."It is interesting that the biblical story of Noah and the ark is mocked in a Hollywood "hilarious new comedy" movie to be released on June 22, 2007.The movie is titled "Evan Almighty."See http://www.evanalmighty.com.Playing God, black actor Morgan Freeman mysteriously appears to a white newscaster named Evan Baxter.Baxter asks, "Who are you?"The actor playing God says, "I am God. I want you, Evan Baxter, to build an ark."Baxter is shown in the advertising promo holding a yellow soft cover book titled "Ark Building for Dummies."If Hollywood, the producers, and the public knew just how close we are to the real Noah end-time scenario predicted by Jesus, they would not be so hilarious or mocking. They would be weeping and gnashing their teeth. But, of course, when Noah's flood came, people were not taking him seriously either, and were mocking him, just like this movie does. And making fun of sacred truth is always dangerous to one's eternal health.Humanity never learns.Jim

Attorneys Attempt to Bring Prayer Back in School

Could prayer in schools be making a comeback?
Two attorneys in California say it could.Late last week, a legal opinion letter was sent to San Diego's Board of Education by two attorneys on behalf of Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) – a legal group that protects religious freedom. In the letter, Pete Lepiscopo and former State Sen. Bill Morrow – who recently formed Lepiscopo & Morrow, LLP – argued for prayer rights for Christian and Jewish students in the school system since a group of Muslim students had already been given the right earlier.Should the district agree, it would be a large victory towards getting prayer back into public education settings, the attorneys say.“The School District has created the opportunity to return prayer to school,” explained Lepiscopo, in a statement. “What can be better than children praying while they are in school?"Prayer in school has been an increasingly controversial subject over the past years and has mostly disappeared from the public sector to keep the separation of church and state. Most school districts have become afraid to allow student prayers, because many civil liberties groups, such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), have filed suits against schools that allegedly promote religion on their campuses. Student-led prayers at graduations have especially been a hot topic this year, and something that Christian litigation groups have been strongly pushing to defend.
Recent victories in favor of free religious speech point to a possible course reversal, however, as several schools have been found innocent in student prayer cases. The PJI representatives saw an opening when Carver Elementary in San Diego allowed Muslim students to pray, accommodating their need to pray to Mecca five times a day. The Christian lawyers have argued that the same benefits should be offered to Christian and Jewish students or the policy will be discriminatory and against religious equality. The attorneys are now asking that classrooms be set aside for at least one hour a day, so that other religious students, as well as faculty, can meet their needs for prayer. The time would be during recess as to make it not obligatory."Voluntary, student-initiated prayer in schools should not be controversial,” said Brad Daucus, president of PJI, in a statement. “The federal courts have held that schools do not endorse everything they fail to censor, and this could be a terrific opportunity for a whole community to recognize the importance of faith in our youth, without government involvement or interference."Also in the letter’s provisions, Lepiscopo and Morrow are requesting that clergy be allowed to come onto school grounds to lead the prayers as well as speakers be provided for religious music.PJI attorneys say they believe the request will pass and have begun training local pastors on how to encourage children at school while still staying within constitutional boundaries.

Bible-Backed Christians Debate Global Warming Before Senate

WASHINGTON-Evangelical, mainline and the Catholic traditions were all citing scriptures from the same Bible as support for their stance on global warming, yet they still remained intensely divided over the issue as they shared their views before a U.S. senate committee on Thursday. The U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works first heard from the presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, who strongly supports the belief that global warming is real and mainly human induced.“As one who has been formed both through a deep Christian faith and as a scientist, I believe that science has revealed to us without equivocation that climate change and global warming are real and caused in significant part by human activities,” said the Episcopal Church head.Jefferts Schori, formerly an oceanographer, was backed by John Carr of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Rev. Jim Ball of the Evangelical Climate Initiative composed of over 100 prominent evangelical leaders. Signers of the ECI include Rick Warren, author of the Purpose Driven Life; Leith Anderson, senior pastor of Wooddale Church in St. Paul, Minn., and president of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE); and Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church near Chicago. However, down the table were conservative evangelical leaders who oppose laying most blame for global warming on humans and reject proposals to significantly cut carbon emission-the main contributor of greenhouse gases-which they say will have a devastating effect on the world’s poor.Evangelical ethicist E. Calvin Beisner of Interfaith Stewardship Alliance was quoted in one of the panelist’s statement that reducing energy and increasing its cost will be harmful to the world’s poor communities because it will slow economic development, reduce overall productivity and increase cost of all goods for the poor.
The panel’s divided views on global warming are reminiscent of a recent high-profile controversy in the evangelical community over the global warming activism of the NAE’s vice president, the Rev. Richard Cizik. Dozens of prominent evangelical leaders including Dr. James C. Dobson and Gary L. Bauer had called for either the end of Cizik’s evangelical climate change campaign or for his forced resignation if he resisted.

Sony Apologizes to Church for Shootout Game

LONDON (AP)-Sony Corp. apologized Friday to the Church of England for a violent computer game that features a bloody shootout inside an Anglican cathedral. The church had demanded withdrawal of the game "Resistance: Fall of Man," which includes a gunbattle between an American soldier and aliens inside a building that resembles Manchester Cathedral in northwest England. The cathedral's dean, the Very Rev. Rogers Govender, said he had received a letter from Sony."It was not our intention to cause offense by using a representation of Manchester Cathedral in chapter eight of the work," the letter said. "If we have done so, we sincerely apologize."The letter, posted on the Church of England's Web site, is signed by David A. Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.A Sony spokesman confirmed the letter was genuine and said it included the offer of a meeting between Sony representatives and church officials. Govender said the cathedral would accept the offer. He thanked Sony for the apology, but underlined the church's opposition to violence, "and especially the gun violence seen in this portrayal of the cathedral."
He said the church wanted to discuss its outstanding demands, which include withdrawal of the game and a donation to the church's education department, which works to fight gun violence in Manchester.Earlier this week, the church called for Japanese citizens to join in a campaign against the game, which was manufactured for Sony's new PlayStation 3 console."For a global manufacturer to recreate the interior of any religious building such as a mosque, synagogue, or in this case, a cathedral, with photo realistic quality and then encourage people to have gunbattles in the building is beyond belief and in our view highly irresponsible," Govender said Wednesday.Prime Minister Tony Blair told lawmakers that companies like Sony should focus on their wider social responsibilities and not just profit. The church was particularly concerned because Manchester has a history of gang-related gun violence.
In its letter, Sony said it did not accept "that there is any connection between contemporary issues of 21st-century Manchester and a work of science fiction in which a fictitious 1950s Britain is under attack by aliens.""We believe a comprehensive viewing of the work will make its content and context clear," Sony said, adding that "Resistance: Fall of Man" has sold more than 2 million units around the world.

While looting, sporadic violence, and instability still plague the newly Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, a Christian persecution group hopes that a long-established friendship between it and Hamas will keep the small Christian community relatively safe from targeted attacks.Open Doors, an international ministry working with persecuted Christian, said although it fears a worsening of living conditions for Gaza inhabitants, it does not think Christians will be attacked by the Islamic fundamentalist group.“I am afraid it is going to get worst now that the border with Israel will be sealed tight,” Al Janssen, director of communications for Open Doors International, said to The Christian Post on Friday. “If food isn’t getting in and water isn’t getting in then there is going to be a humanitarian crisis.”
However, Janssen noted that he hopes the conversations between Hamas leaders and Open Doors founder Brother Andrew “will bear some fruit.”
Brother Andrew had built a relationship spanning over a decade with Hamas leaders. In December 1992, over a thousand Hamas leaders were deported from Israel and left on the side of a mountain in Lebanon. Brother Andrew had flew in and visited the Hamas camp in a humanitarian way and gave Bibles and his book “God’s Smuggler” to them, who in turn invited Brother Andrew into their tent for a meal. When the Hamas leaders later were able to return to their countries, Brother Andrew in turn hosted meals for Hamas leaders where he would testify about the Gospel. The two built a friendship where they would mutually challenge each others religious beliefs but would do so with respect.
“Hamas are still people who need to hear the Gospel,” Janssen said. “Maybe at night, one of them would think about God and where he will go when he dies. We as Christians should spread the Gospel and not just cut them off.”The Islamic militant group Hamas, which is considered a terrorist group by the United States and many Western nations, began to fully rule Gaza on Friday after a bloody power struggle with Fatah forces. Over five days, nearly a hundred people died and dozens other were injured in the impoverished land, according to The Associated Press. As a result of the coup, Palestinians are now split geographically and politically into the Fatah-ruled, U.S. and Israel-backed occupied West Bank and the Hamas-ruled, Iran and Syria-backed Gaza Strip. The conflict has also resulted in the dissolve of the Fatah-Hamas agreement to mutually rule the country. Western-backed president Mahmud Abbas of the Fatah party has announced the firing of Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya, who has disregarded the announcement. The United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia – the Quartet of Middle East mediators – have all given a “clear message of support” for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to Reuters. Washington, Europe and Israel are preparing to provide finances to the more secular Fatah power.

Arab League calls for Palestinian unity

The Arab League called Friday "on all parties to stop the fighting on Palestinian lands" and return the government to its status before Hamas forces claimed full control of Gaza. The future of the Palestinian government was uncertain, as rival factions Hamas and Fatah staked claims to different areas after days of bloody fighting.Hamas was in control of Gaza, while Fatah, the faction of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, largely held the West Bank. The Arab League said it will set up a committee to investigate the situation in Gaza and issue a report within a month.
The Egyptian delegation in Gaza shut its offices and departed Friday because of security concerns, sources in Gaza said.In Washington, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the United States "fully" supports Abbas "in trying to end this crisis for the Palestinian people and give them an opportunity for a return to peace and a better future."State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the United States, Israel and the international community want to help Abbas economically, politically and diplomatically and want to support Palestinian moderates.Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's spokeswoman, Miri Eisin, said the "firing of Hamas from the government and the establishment of a government without Hamas open new possibilities of cooperation, both financial and security, with a moderate government."Abbas appointed Salam Fayyad as prime minister of an emergency government, an Abbas adviser said.
Fayyad, well-regarded in the international banking world, was finance minister in the short-lived unity government. With control over Gaza consolidated, Hamas troops in Gaza City threw large framed photos of late President Yasser Arafat and Abbas to the ground outside the presidential compound.Reuters reported that one of the fighters picked up the phone in Abbas' former office and jokingly said, "Hello, Condoleezza Rice. You have to deal with me now, there is no Abu Mazen anymore." Abu Mazen is another name for Abbas.

BIG BROTHER WATCH:Airlines think fingerprinting plan won't fly

WASHINGTON-U.S. air carriers are fighting a federal proposal that would require workers to digitally scan foreigners' fingerprints at check-in areas before departure on international flights.Airline representatives, who have spent years trying to streamline airport operations and encourage passengers to use kiosks and print boarding passes at home, worry that collecting fingerprints would create major snarls."It creates a choke point in the check-in process," said Jim May, president of the Air Transport Association, a trade group that represents the major U.S. airlines.May and other airline representatives have recently increased their lobbying on the fingerprinting regulation, which the Department of Homeland Security is expected to publish for public comment in the next few months.Government officials defended the proposal, saying they think that relying on airline workers at counters would be the most efficient way to collect the prints. The information is meant to help authorities find criminals, potential terrorists and people who illegally overstay their visas.

Cheap alcohol killing Russians

DRINKING 'surrogate' alcohol - such as eau de colognes and antiseptics - may be responsible for nearly half of all deaths among working-age men in Russia. The findings have been published in British medical journal The Lancet.
"It's an astounding finding," said Richard Peto, a professor of medical statistics and epidemiology at Oxford University, who was not connected to the study.
"Evidence is emerging from other areas to suggest this is a nationwide problem," Prof Peto said. The research suggests that despite Russia's economic resurgence in the past decade, it still faces social and health problems, especially in provincial areas. Dr Leon and colleagues concluded that 43 per cent of deaths were caused by hazardous drinking. They did not have statistics on the toll that regular alcohol took, but according to data from 2002, in the European subregion including Russia, 19 per cent of male mortality was attributable to all types of alcohol.
In Western Europe, the comparable figure was three per cent. The so-called "surrogate" alcohols cost a small fraction of what vodka costs, and they are available in kiosks and pharmacies on Russian streets."They're sold in a way that makes it blindingly obvious that they're for drinking," Dr Leon said. "Drinking surrogate alcohol is a very rapid way to finish yourself off."
The technique requires practice, since ingesting concentrated forms of ethanol can lead to a stripping away of lung cells if drinkers breathe in right after taking a swig. But whether men drank hazardous alcohol was the most potent predictor of mortality, Dr Leon said.Men who did so had an approximately sixfold increase in death compared with men who did not. The life expectancy of a Russian man was 59 years in 2004 - lower than the 62 years for a man in Bangladesh. Eau de colognes and medicinal tinctures typically contain as much as 97 per cent ethanol, compared with the 43 per cent in Russian vodka.
Alcoholism has long been linked to mortality in Russia.

PS:I remember years ago back home,we ahd already started to see an increased number of women addicted to "surrogate alcohol"such as eau de cologne, cause it's cheap. The problem is that most of these are based in methanol which is extremely toxic and causes blindness rather fast without the proper and quick treatment. Therefore we had lots of female patients, most of them with permanent blindness as a result.Very sad,but real situation in many parts of the world...!

Guatemala mob kills suspected organ thieves

CAMOTAN, Guatemala - Thousands of angry Guatemalans beat a woman to death and set another on fire on suspicion they had killed a young girl and stolen her organs to sell them, police said Saturday.
Nine-year-old Mishel Diaz disappeared from her home in Camotan, a town near the border with Honduras, last Thursday and her mutilated body was discovered a day later abandoned on a dirt track. Her arm was cut off, eyes gouged out and body carved up, with the skin on her chest removed in what looked like an attempt to steal her heart and kidneys, said town police chief Enrique Lemus. An angry mob wielding rocks and sticks went house to house looking for three women they thought committed the murder.“Some neighbors said they saw one woman kidnap the little girl. That’s how they figured these women were responsible,” Lemus said. “Then at least 2,000 people went out looking for them. It was the entire town.”The furious horde beat 24-year-old Marciana Recinos to death in the town square.
Police rescued the other two women but only after the mob doused one woman with gasoline and set her on fire. She is now recovering in hospital and the third woman is in jail. There is a deep fear in rural Guatemala of children being stolen to sell them or their organs for transplants, although this is often based on rumor and unfounded stories.Lynch mobs have killed hundreds of people in the poor Central American country since 1996, when it signed peace accords to end a 36-year civil war that left a quarter of a million people dead or missing. Many experts blame the vigilante justice on exposure to violence during the war, combined with a lack of faith in the crumbling criminal justice system.

ETS pres. resigns, returns to Catholicism

WACO, Texas (BP)-Francis (Frank) Beckwith, a prominent professor of church-state studies and philosophy at Baylor University, has resigned as president of the Evangelical Theological Society, citing his return to the Roman Catholic Church.Beckwith, who was raised Catholic but drifted into Reformed Protestantism in his youth, disclosed on a May 5 weblog that he had received the sacrament of confession April 28 and had been received into the communion of the church during a Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waco, Texas, the following day.In a subsequent blog, Beckwith announced he had resigned as president of the theological society to "avoid bringing scandal to either ETS or the Church."Beckwith said on a blog May 5 that his departure from Protestantism was prompted by his study of the early church fathers. His wife, whom he described as "a baptized Presbyterian," also has begun the initiatory rites for adults who wish to enter the Catholic Church."I became convinced that the Early Church is more Catholic than Protestant and that the Catholic view of justification, correctly understood, is biblically and historically defensible," Beckwith wrote on the blog. "Even though I also believe that the Reformed view is biblically and historically defensible, I think the Catholic view has more explanatory power to account for both all the biblical texts on justification as well as the church's historical understanding of salvation prior to the Reformation all the way back to the ancient church of the first few centuries."Moreover, much of what I have taken for granted as a Protestant -- e.g., the catholic creeds, the doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation, the Christian understanding of man, and the canon of Scripture-is the result of a Church that made judgments about these matters and on which non-Catholics, including Evangelicals, have declared and grounded their Christian orthodoxy in a world hostile to it. Given these considerations, I thought it wise for me to err on the side of the Church with historical and theological continuity with the first generations of Christians that followed Christ's Apostles."Several scholars critical of Beckwith's decision responded to his statements on the blog. Doug Groothuis, professor of philosophy at Denver Seminary, said Beckwith's return to the Catholic Church was a "sad day for all true sons and daughters of the Protestant Reformation, for all who lived and died for its truths."Groothuis said Beckwith was "embracing serious theological error" and by joining Rome he was putting an institution and men ahead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
PS:I agree with Prof.Groothuis comments. It was a sad day the day that this young man decided to go back to Rome putting an institution(that has killed and persecuted more christians than any other)and men ahead of the glorious Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The worst part of all is that him and his wife are lost, even though they have joined a large "church".Catholicism is no other thing but "Babylon Remixed".A dead religion, that still today is taking millions to hell, thru error."

Animal-Human Hybrids Spark Controversy

Scientists have begun blurring the line between human and animal by producing chimeras—a hybrid creature that's part human, part animal.Chinese scientists at the Shanghai Second Medical University in 2003 successfully fused human cells with rabbit eggs. The embryos were reportedly the first human-animal chimeras successfully created. They were allowed to develop for several days in a laboratory dish before the scientists destroyed the embryos to harvest their stem cells. In Minnesota last year researchers at the Mayo Clinic created pigs with human blood flowing through their bodies. And at Stanford University in California an experiment might be done later this year to create mice with human brains.Scientists feel that, the more humanlike the animal, the better research model it makes for testing drugs or possibly growing "spare parts," such as livers, to transplant into humans.
Watching how human cells mature and interact in a living creature may also lead to the discoveries of new medical treatments. But creating human-animal chimeras—named after a monster in Greek mythology that had a lion's head, goat's body, and serpent's tail—has raised troubling questions: What new subhuman combination should be produced and for what purpose? At what point would it be considered human? And what rights, if any, should it have? There are currently no U.S. federal laws that address these issues. The National Academy of Sciences, which advises the U.S. government, has been studying the issue. In March it plans to present voluntary ethical guidelines for researchers.A chimera is a mixture of two or more species in one body. Not all are considered troubling, though.

Offshore abortion women's group is given licence again

An “abortion ship” is planning to sail to countries where the practice is illegal and take women out to sea for terminations after the Dutch Government lifted restrictions banning it from international waters.
Rebecca Gomperts, the director of Women on Waves, told The Times: “We have just received the licence and there are some restrictive conditions but, yes, we are going to prepare a new campaign, that is for sure.“We are in touch with women’s organisations in several different countries. There are still three countries where abortion is illegal in Europe but there are also invitations from Argentina and some other South American countries.”Under the terms of its licence, the group is able to sail under the Dutch flag in international waters and hand out “abortion pills” for women up to seven weeks pregnant, causing them to have a miscarriage. The group had been banned effectively since 2004, when restrictions were imposed by the previous, conservative-leaning Dutch Government. But the election of the Labour Party (PvdA) into the ruling coalition led to a relaxation of the rules. The group was said to be the catalyst for a change of the law in Portugal to allow abortion until ten weeks into pregnancy after an international incident in 2004. During an 11-day stand-off, the Government ordered a navy blockade of Lisbon to stop the group from collecting women to have their pregnancies terminated. The Dutch Government asked for permission for the boat to dock but was refused. “It sent a clear signal to the EU that the law in Portugal was not an acceptable way to treat women,” said Ms Gomperts, a medical doctor. The abortion boat visited Ireland in 2001 and Poland in 2003. In 2004 the Dutch Ministry of Health ruled that it could operate only within a 25km (15mile) radius of a named Am-sterdam hospital, effectively banning the ship from operating outside the Netherlands.Women on Waves blames the third member of the Dutch coalition, the small Christen Unie Party, for thwarting its attempt to have the permissible period of abortion that it can provide extended from seven to twelve weeks. It has also vowed to fight another limitation, that a partner hospital must be found in the region from where its clientele come.

Country in chaos after flash floods and storms

Thunder storms, bursting river banks and flash floods caused chaos across the country yesterday, with the unsettled weather expected to continue over the next few days.A major hunt was launched for a teenage soldier feared drowned after he was washed away in a swollen river near Catterick, North Yorkshire. In Northern Ireland such was the damage caused by relentless rain over the last few days that the Stormont Executive announced emergency payments of £1,000 for each household affected.Elsewhere, 100 factory workers were trapped upstairs in a building in Minworth, Warwickshire, after the ground floor flooded with water levels reaching six feet. Train travel was severely disrupted and commuters on many of England's motorways reported long delays. All over the country motorists had to be rescued from their cars, including a kidney dialysis patient who had to be winched from her vehicle en route to hospital.Heavy rain was expected to continue overnight in many parts before easing today.

Will this book be the 'next Harry Potter' ?

The Daily Telegraph today publishes the first extracts from Tunnels, expected to be the next sensation after Harry Potter, the first-time work of two British authors now set to become multimillionaires.Yesterday, Barry Cunningham, their publisher and the man who first signed up JK Rowling a decade ago, was in New York considering film offers from three Hollywood studios for Tunnels - even though it is not due to be published until July 2.The authors, Roderick Gordon, 46, and Brian Williams, 48, have been guarded about Tunnels but the extracts reveal that the book follows Will, a 10-year-old archaeologist, and his friend Chester. The fantasy adventure involves merciless villains, a tunnel to find a lost world and a journey to the centre of the earth.
Advance orders put Tunnels third in the Amazon sales chart - behind two Harry Potter titles. Mr Cunningham has bought two sequels - one of which is written.Gordon, who has two young children, was made redundant as an investment banker in 2001. Williams, who studied art at the Slade in London, has worked as an artist, in films and as an actor. The pair, friends since meeting as students, were fascinated by archaeology and wrote Tunnels in the garden of Gordon's home in Islington, north London, in the hot summer of 2004.
Williams said: "The basis for the story struck us as if someone had belted us on the head with a shovel.
"The idea of a secret world underneath our feet hit us in an instant and after that, Rod and I never looked back. We couldn't write fast enough."

Steps Jesus walked to trial restored to glory

One of the Roman Catholic Church's holiest relics, which contains the steps believed to have been climbed by Jesus on his way to trial before Pontius Pilate, has been restored to its former glory. The Santa Scala, or Holy Stairs, were brought to Rome from Jerusalem in the fourth century AD and placed in the former papal palace opposite the basilica of St John Lateran. However, restorers found that the sanctity of the staircase had not had an effect on the behaviour of some tourists. "We found chewing gum stuck to the wood of the stairs," said Alessandra Scerrato, the secretary of the Friends of the Holy Stairs association. The 28 white marble steps, which are encased in wood for their protection, are so holy that pilgrims are only allowed to ascend on their knees. The kneeling position also allows them to gaze through holes in the wood which allegedly reveal spots of Christ's blood on the marble beneath. Pilgrims who ascend the staircase are given a full indulgence of their sins.Charles Dickens, who visited the staircase in 1845, was unimpressed by the Catholic ritual, calling it a "dangerous reliance on outward observances" and added: "I never, in my life, saw anything at once so ridiculous and so unpleasant as this sight."In 1589, Pope Sixtus V commissioned 17,000 sq ft of frescoes to surround the stairs. The painted walls and ceiling had been darkened by centuries of smoke from the candles of visitors."The hardest part was to remove the soot," said Francesco China, one of the restorers. A number of noted 16th century artists, including Baldassare Croce, who assisted in the painting of the Sistine Chapel, contributed to the frescoes. They were restored millimetre by millimetre, using digital cameras to discern the original image. The Holy Stairs originally led to the praetorium, or judgment hall, of Pontius Pilate's palace in Jerusalem. Worshippers believe that they were sanctified by Jesus's footsteps.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/06/14/wsteps114.xml
PS:In this article is said that pilgrims are given full indulgnce of their sins if they go up these stairs on their knees. The practice of "indulgences"pertains to the Catholic Church. They are not biblical. An indulgence means-according to their creed-"a special heavenly treasure which the Church grants us to repay the debt we owe God for our sins and heal the damage done to our souls by sin.God has allowed the Church to attach indulgences to certain actions or prayers,so that when we perform these actions or pray these prayers,we can receive the indulgence.Although indulgences cannot be applied to the living (they have to get their own indulgences!),we can help the Souls in Purgatory to reach Heaven sooner by applying the indulgences we receive, to them, to help pay their debt to God..."Basically that's what it is.I'll elaborate more later on this.
"Indulgences" along with "purgatory" among other things are not biblical.
According to Scripture only Jesus can forgive sins.
According to Scripture to there is not a "purgatory" but a literal "hell" to which all the souls that rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and didn't believe in Him,go when they die.

Snow falling in central Sweden

It might be only one week to Midsummer, but nobody seems to have told mother nature. Snow has returned to parts of central Sweden, with five centimetres falling in some places. The snowfall came in the mountainous Härjedalen area of northern Dalarna. A meteorologist from weather service SMHI told Svenska Dagbladet that snow was unusual at this time of year, usually falling roughly once every ten years. The snow follows weeks of warm summer weather, but a low pressure area caused a turn in conditions.Temperatures are expected to rise again tomorrow, reaching 15 to 18 degrees, SMHI predicts.

CULTURE of DEATH:Planned Parenthood Reports Record Abortions, High Profits

Despite a drop in donations and the first fall in income from clinics in its history, the nation's biggest abortion provider made a high profit last year, thanks to the American taxpayer.Pro-lifers want this to stop.During its 2005-2006 fiscal year, the nonprofit Planned Parenthood Federation of America performed a record 264,943 abortions, attained a high profit of $55.8 million and received record taxpayer funding of $305.3 million.According to its annual report, income is divided roughly into three major categories: clinic income (fees charged to customers at clinics); donations (gifts from corporations, foundations and individuals); and taxpayer money (grants and contracts from federal, state and local government). For the year July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006,Planned Parenthood received $345.1 million in clinic income, $305.3 million in taxpayer funding and $212.2 million in donations. Total income reached $902.8 million while total expenses came to $847.0 million, leaving a profit of $55.8 million.Numerous calls to Planned Parenthood offices in both New York City and Washington, D.C., seeking comment for this article, were not returned, but a statement on the organization's website says that the report "illustrates the achievements of an organization founded to prevent unintended pregnancy and protect women's health and safety."

Surge In Hurricane Activity Is Only A Return To Normal

Fresh research into Atlantic hurricanes is offering a dash of good news in the context of global warming-but bad news for those in the Caribbean and southeastern United States who live in the path of these mighty storms.Investigators believe the greenhouse effect cannot be blamed for a surge in hurricane activity since the mid-1990s.The downside is this, though: What was thought to an alarming blip in the number of hurricanes since 1995 could well turn out to be a return to the norm.Over the past 12 years, there has been an annual average of 4.1 major hurricanes-storms rating at least three on a five-point severity scale-compared with only 1.5 such storms per year between 1971 and 1994.This sudden rise has caused many experts to ponder if seas, progressively warmed by the greenhouse effect, are to blame. But hurricanes are known to occur in cycles. The task for climatologists is to get a long-term view, enabling them to filter out man-made interference with the climate system from natural factors. The problem, though, is that the reliable observational record for these storms dates back only to 1944, so scientists have to look to other sources to reconstruct the past.Johan Nyberg of Sweden's Geological Survey believes he has found such a source-in Caribbean corals (whose growth is affected by temperature and nutrients stirred up by hurricanes) and in cores of shore sediment, whose layers are built up by wind-whipped storm waves.Nyberg's team has used these indicators, called proxies, to build up a picture of hurricane frequency since 1730."The phase of enhanced hurricane activity since 1995 is not unusual compared to other periods of high hurricane activity in the record," they report on Thursday in Nature, the weekly British science journal."(It) appears to represent a recovery to normal hurricane activity, rather than a direct response to increasing sea-surface temperature."

ISLAMIC INVASION:Cathedral performance to glorify Allah

The premiere of a work by the leading composer Sir John Taverner in Westminster Cathedral next week has provoked discord because it glorifies the Muslim deity Allah.Traditionalist Roman Catholics are planning to converge on the cathedral on Tuesday evening to protest over the work, which includes the singing of the 99 names of Allah.A number have written to Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, expressing concern that the Church will be seen to be endorsing the Islamic idea of God.But having failed to halt the concert, dozens are now threatening to picket the cathedral with placards and banners quoting Biblical passages that affirm the divinity of Christ.
Sir John's music featured in the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, and his new work, The Beautiful Names, was commissioned by his friend the Prince of Wales.Mgr Mark Langham, the administrator of the cathedral, defended the concert. He said that it was a musical performance rather than a "liturgical act of worship".

BIOMETRIC SCANNING HAS BIBLICAL IMPLICATIONS

More than 3.3 million consumers now use biometric technology to pay for their purchases at several U.S. retailers, reports Parade Magazine. One prominent church founder shares his thoughts on the biblical implications of such technology."Customers at several retailers can now literally pay by touch,"says the magazine in its Nov.12, 2006 issue."By placing their finger on a scanner at the check out and entering their home phone number, these tech-savvy shoppers can deduct the cost of a carton of milk directly from a bank account or credit card."Such futuristic technology, often relegated to scenes in high-tech thrillers or science fiction novels, is available now.In a recent exclusive interview,Chuck Smith, founder and senior pastor of the original Calvary Chapel(Costa Mesa, CA), contends that "this development clearly illustrates that we are one step closer to what is described in the Book of Revelation." Smith indicates that"this should be yet another wake-up call from God that we are in the last of the last days. We already know of eye-identification scanning devices and other technology(identification chips for pets,GPS technology)that clearly shows us this." Biometric scanning involves the use of automated methods for uniquely recognizing human physical traits. The information is then processed by a numerical algorithm and entered into a database. It is quite different from technology that places something inside the human body to identify a person, such as a microchip. With the danger of identity theft, biometric finger identity is marketed to emphasize solutions to security and convenience issues in making financial exchanges. Smith notes that the technology described in Parade is introduced in a manner to make it friendly to the public."This is just another way of desensitizing the public to the advantages of this new technology,"he says. "It's a way for the public to buy into the system." While this technology is presently received voluntarily, Pastor Smith emphasizes that there is a difference between this new technology and the mark of the Beast, which is described in the Book of Revelation. The mark referred to in the Bible is not voluntary, he points out; it will be mandated.
(By James L.Lambert - AgapePress )
PS:"And he caused all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond,to receive a mark in their right hand,or in their foreheads:and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark or the name of the beast,or the number of his name. Here is wisdom.Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast:for it is the number of a man;and his number is six hundred threescore and six"(Revelation 13:16-18)

THE RAPE OF EUROPE

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (Oct.2006) that young Europeans who love freedom, better emigrate.Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now. Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers and the passers-by and said melancholically:“We are watching the world of yesterday.”Europe is turning Muslim. As Broder is sixty years old he is not going to emigrate himself.“I am too old,” he said. However,he urged young people to get out and“move to Australia or New Zealand. That is the only option they have if they want to avoid the plagues that will turn the old continent uninhabitable.”Many Germans and Dutch, apparently, did not wait for Broder’s advice. The number of emigrants leaving the Netherlands and Germany has already surpassed the number of immigrants moving in.One does not have to be prophetic to predict, like Henryk Broder, that Europe is becoming Islamic.Just consider the demographics. The number of Muslims in contemporary Europe is estimated to be 50million.It is expected to double in twenty years.By 2025,one third of all European children will be born to Muslim families.Today Mohammed is already the most popular name for new-born boys in Brussels,Amsterdam,Rotterdam, and other major European cities.Broderis convinced that the Europeans are not willing to oppose islamization.“The dominant ethos,”he told DeVolkskrant, “is perfectly voiced by the stupid blonde woman author with whom I recently debated. She said that it is sometimes better to let yourself be raped than to risk serious injuries while resisting. She said it is sometimes better to avoid fighting than runthe risk of death.”In a recent op-ed piece in the Brussels newspaper De Standaard (Oct.23rd) the Dutch(gay and self-declared “humanist”) author Oscar Vanden Boogaard refers to Broder’s interview:"Van denBoogaard says that to him coping with the islamization of Europe is like “a process of mourning.”He is overwhelmed by a “feeling of sadness.” “I am not awarrior,” he says, “but who is? I have never learned to fight for my freedom.I was only good at enjoying it.”As Tom Bethell wrote in this month’s American Spectator: “Just at the most basic level of demography the secular-humanist option is not working.” But there is more to it than the fact that non-religious people tend not to have as many children as religious people, because many of them prefer to “enjoy” freedom rather than renounce it for the sake of children.Secularists,it seems to me,are also less keen on fighting.Since they do not believe in an after life, this life is the only thing they have to lose.Hence they will rather accept submission than fight.Likethe German feminist Broder referred to,they prefer to be raped than to resist.“If faith collapses, civilization goes with it,”says Bethell. That is thereal cause of the closing of civilization in Europe.Islamization is simply the consequence. The very word Islam means “submission” and the secularists have submitted already. Many Europeans have already become Muslims, though they do not realize it or do not want to admit it.Some of the people I meet in the U.S. are particularly worried about the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe. They are correct when they fear that anti-Semitism is also on the rise among non-immigrant Europeans. The latter hate people with a fighting spirit.Contemporary anti-Semitism in Europe (at least when coming from native Europeans)is related to anti-Americanism.People who are not prepared to resist and are eager to submit, hate others who do not want to submit and are prepared to fight. They hate them because they are afraid that the latter will endanger their lives as well.In their view everyone must submit. This is why they have come to hate Israel and America so much, and the small band of European“islamophobes” who dare to talk about what they see happening around them.West Europeans have to choose between submission (islam) or death.I fear, like Broder, that they have chosen submission-just like in former days when they preferred to be red rather than dead.

Gay Marriage Stays Legal In Massachusetts

BOSTON-Lawmakers voted Thursday to keep a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage off the 2008 ballot during a joint session of the Massachusetts House and Senate. The amendment that defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman needed the support of 50 of the state's 200 lawmakers in two consecutive sessions. It passed with 62 votes on the final day of the last legislative session earlier this year, but it only received 45 votes on Thursday."We're proud of our state today, and we applaud the Legislature for showing that Massachusetts is strongly behind fairness," said Lee Swislow, executive director of Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders. "Equality for gay and lesbian citizens has enriched our state, made our communities stronger, and our families happier. The vote today was the triumph of time, experience and understanding over fear and prejudice"Earlier in the day, activists on both sides of the issue gathered at the Statehouse to make their voices heard. Preaching a message of marriage equality, members of the Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry marched from St. Paul's Cathedral to the steps of the statehouse."God loves all of God's children-gays, straight, transgender and bisexual-and everyone has equal rights," the Rev. Anne Rousseau said. Opponents of gay marriage demanded that the issue be decided by the voters of Massachusetts."If the majority of people in Massachusetts think that marriage should remain between a man and a woman, they ought to say that," said Wally Atwood, who supports a gay marriage ban.
"To take the position that a small group of unelected judges can determine who we are as a people, I think it's not right," said Elizabeth Dionne, who supports a gay marriage ban."This is a clear issue of civil rights and social justice, and we are here in support of it," said Alex Coleman, who supports gay marriage. The issues has made national headlines with Democratic lawmakers. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lobbied to keep the question off the ballot."I think it's a choice people of Massachusetts need to make. Not Nancy Pelosi. She is not from here. She has nothing to do with it," Dionne said.Others, such as Joan Fahey, who married her long-time partner in 2004, said that the issue transcends politics."It will really impact (us) on a day-to-day basis to the extent that gays and lesbians feel safe in this state," she said.

PHYSICAL and SPIRITUAL WATER NEEDS ABOUND IN LIBERIA

Liberia (MNN)-13 years of civil war in Liberia did incredible damage to the country. It killed people, destroyed villages, and also destroyed infrastructure. Living Water International's Bruce Whitmire says it was especially hard on the water supply."Where hand pumps were once constructed, they have now been destroyed--the pumps absolutely ripped out of the ground and sold to buy bullets. And over the past three years Living Water [International] has been able to rehabilitate and drill over 300 new wells," says Whitmire. However, he says that just a small portion of what's needed to serve a population of three-million people. "When you look at the capital city of Monrovia (a city that was built for 600,000 people), about 1.5 million people live in and around the capital city. So, if all of the infrastructure services worked, there would still be 900,000 people without basic services such as water and sewer."But none of those services work, so the needs are great.Water is an open door for evangelism. "Water is merely a tool to share the Gospel. And, as Living Water International works in 25 countries throughout the world, our goal is to reach the world with water and the Word of God."

STATE of EMERGENCY COVERS GAZA:ministry moves toward unity

Gaza (MNN)-Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah has decided to dismantle the Hamas-Fatah coalition government in Gaza under a state emergency. This comes after Hamas proved nearly successful in a complete takeover of the Gaza Strip. A Hamas military victory in Gaza would split Palestinian territory into two, with the Islamic extremists controlling the coastal strip and Western-backed Fatah ruling the West Bank.E3 Partners' Tom Doyle says the situation boiled over from pent-up frustration over Hamas' inability to be the solution to the problems in Gaza. "They're unable to deliver on their promises, just like the Palestinian Authority hasn't, and there's been growing frustration. So Hamas and Fatah, which is the group from Palestinian Authority, are just fighting, and it's now a chaotic situation." Unity among Christians in the West Bank is fractious.Doyle says they're addressing that with a breakthrough conference that's coming in the next month. Leaders are bathing it in prayer."It's bringing Muslim background believers, Christian background believer, and evangelical background believers together-all three, for times of working together, praying, forgiveness, moving forward. They want to see the churches more integrated."

15-Year-Old Seen as New Buddha

15-year-old boy in the Hindu kingdom of Nepal, who reportedly has been fasting for six months while meditating beneath a tree, is seen as the new Buddha.Thousands of pilgrims have been flocking to the dense forests of Bara district in the southern part of the Himalayan kingdom to get a glimpse of Ram Bomjon, who began meditating silently six months ago, Britain's Daily Telegraph reports.A local journalist said there has been no report so far of Ram breaking his fast or moving, even to relieve himself. It was in Nepal, not far from where Ram is meditating, that the original Buddha was born more than 2,500 years ago, later gaining enlightenment while meditating beneath a similar pipal tree. Says Ram's mother: "God took him to the forest and I have faith that God will feed him."Recently a snake bit Ram. After five days, Ram told those around him: "Tell the people not to call me a Buddha. I don't have the Buddha's energy ... A snake bit me but I do not need treatment. I need six years of deep meditation."

Violent crime up again, more murders, robberies

"And God said unto Noah,The end of all flesh is come before me,for the earth is filled with violence through them..."
Genesis 6:13
More murders and robberies in 2006 sent U.S. violent crimes higher for the second straight year, the FBI said on Monday, with the increase blamed on gangs, youth violence, gun crimes and fewer police on beats. The FBI reported that the number of violent crimes nationwide went up by 1.3 percent last year, following a 2.3 percent increase in 2005. That had been the first rise in four years and the biggest percentage gain in 15 years.
The report showed that murders in big cities jumped last year by 6.7 percent. Robberies, an important indicator of crime trends, increased 6 percent nationwide.Cities with big increases in the number of murders included Orlando and Miami in Florida; Oakland and San Diego in California; Phoenix, Arizona; Corpus Christi, Texas; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Reno, Nevada and Little Rock, Arkansas.Even though the higher violent crime numbers had been expected, they still represented bad news for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who has targeted violent crime as a top priority for the U.S. Justice Department.A department study released last month of 18 metropolitan areas cited more violence by local gangs or street crews, a greater prevalence of guns in the hands of criminals and younger, more violent offenders as key reasons for the rising crime rates.
