Evangelist urges Christians to stand against blasphemous movies

A well-known evangelist is encouraging Christians to think twice before supporting movies that take the Lord's name in vain.Ray Comfort, president of Living Waters Ministries and co-host of the weekly show Way of the Master, has released a DVD titled "Hollywood and God." The DVD features man-on-the-street interviews in Los Angeles, with people who claim to be Christians. During the interviews, they are asked if they patronize R-rated movies, and if they would attend a movie that used their mother's name as a cuss word.[[[[[Comfort says it is disturbing that many people who profess faith in Christ do not give any thought to what types of movies they support. It is time, he says, for Christians to stop supporting Hollywood movies that blaspheme the name of the Lord.]]]]][[[[["A lot of people within our churches are false converts; they've never found a place of true repentance. They've quote-'given their heart to Jesus,' but they've never repented of their sins-and I'm very concerned for that great mass of people who sit amongst God's people."]]]]][[[[[The evangelist says he is concerned those "false converts" will be among those who will stand before the Lord on Judgment Day and call on the Lord's name, only to be turned away. ]]]]]]And regarding their choice of movie entertainment? {{{{{"Seriously, I don't know how anyone can sit through a sex scene in a modern movie," says Comfort. "If you peek through someone's window at a couple that are making love, it's against the law-you'd be thrown in jail as a pervert. And yet we peep through a screen of window called a movie screen, and then it becomes alright. It's not alright!"}}}}}Comfort says Christians could send a strong message to Hollywood if, as a group, they stood firm and decided not to patronize films that take the Lord's name in vain."When you think that Hollywood has so much blasphemy ... it makes no sense that they'd use God's name as a cuss word," he explains. "You hit your thumb with a hammer, and what do you want to say--something really bad to express disgust."He notes that movie characters do not say, for example, "Buddha" or "Mahatma Gandhi" in such a situation. Instead, he points out, "they have to use the name Jesus Christ and they often use filfth words in the middle of Jesus. They shouldn't do that." According to Comfort, there are 170 million professing Christians in America. "If we said, 'Hollywood, don't do this, we're not going to support movies that use blasphemy,' we would hit them in the box office, where it hurts."The website HollywoodandGod.com includes email links to studio executives, allowing concerned Christians to petition the studio heads to stop blaspheming God's name in movies.
