TUCSON,Ariz.-A female University of Arizona student has died and a second was hospitalized after an early morning altercation Wednesday in a dormitory.Campus police were called to the Graham-Greenlee residence hall at 5:45 a.m. because of a fight involving injuries, Sgt. Eugene Mejia said.He said officers found two 18-year-old women who had been in a fight, one with life-threatening injuries, but he declined to say what type of weapon was involved and said he did not know whether the women were found in a hallway or a room. Both women were taken to University Medical Center, where one died. The other's injuries were described as not life-threatening.The university did not issue a campus alert or institute a lockdown, but President Robert Shelton sent out a notification electronically. A posting on the university's Web site says an investigation is ongoing and called the incident "isolated and contained."Mejia said the case is being treated as a homicide, but that there was no information or confirmation that there was a third party involved, and officers were not looking for an assailant.Investigators are not confirming whether the women were roommates pending notification of kin. As for motive, Mejia said: "That we're working on too."Both women were believed to be Arizona residents, Mejia said.Tucson police homicide investigators are assisting, Mejia said."We've interviewed several parties who were present at the scene," the spokesman said. "Whether they were witnesses or not I don't know."
