A powerful typhoon is expected to hit the Kanto and Tokai regions on mainland Honshu from late Thursday night until early Friday, the Meteorological Agency said.As of 2 p.m. on Thursday, the typhoon, the ninth of the year, was located about 120 kilometers west of Hachijo Island in the Pacific Ocean. It was heading north at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.The atmospheric pressure at its center was 965 hectopascals. Its maximum instantaneous wind speed reached 50 meters per second, agency officials said.The typhoon is expected to hit the Kanto district around Tokyo or the Tokai region of central Honshu in the early hours of Friday and reach the Tohoku region on northeastern Honshu on Friday afternoon.The agency warns of heavy rain, landslides, floods and high waves around the area.The typhoon disrupted land, air and marine transportation services in the Tokai, Kanto and Tohoku areas on Thursday.
