Humberto may reenter Gulf of Mexico: weather models

NEW YORK-While most weather models show the remnants of Humberto reaching Virginia and the Carolinas later Friday, a few models suggest the system could turn south and reenter the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico over the weekend. If the storm returns to warm Gulf waters, AccuWeather warned the oil and natural gas industry to watch for tropical development.
Humberto crashed into the east Texas coast early Thursday as a hurricane with 80 mile per hour winds. In its last advisory on Humberto at 5 a.m. EDT (0900 GMT) Friday, the NHC said remnants of the tropical depression, with maximum sustained winds of 20 mph, were located about 10 miles northwest of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The energy market watches for tropical storms because they can disrupt U.S. oil and natural gas production and refining if the storms enter the Gulf of Mexico.Commodities traders also track tropical storms because they can damage citrus crops in Florida and such crops as cotton along the Gulf Coast.
