At least 15 killed in 2 blasts in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD-At least 15 people, including eight Pakistan army commandos, were killed in two bomb attacks in the southern port city of Karachi and in Tarbela Ghazi in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday, officials said.A security official said that at least eight army men were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a Special Services Group mess at Tarbela Ghazi, about 80 kilometers north of Islamabad in the Northwest Frontier Province. He said that the casualties could increase as the suicide bomber blew himself up when troops were having their dinner. The official said that the suicide attack had also affected the communication system from the area, which had been cordoned off.Earlier, seven people were killed and nearly a dozen injured when three motorcycle riders threw a hand grenade at a stationary minibus near the Karachi Univeristy and opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.Four students of Jamiat-e-Tulba, the student wing of religious Jamat- e-Islami, were among those who died at the spot. The incident appears to be linked to the tension between the ethnic Mutteheda Qaumi Movement of urdu-speaking migrants that dominate Karachi's population and the Jamat-e-Islami, police officials said.Tension between MQM and Jamat-e-Islami is running high in the city following the killing of a lawyer, Raja Riaz, Tuesday allegedly blamed on MQM and remarks from its exiled leader Altaf Hussain living in London.Hussain had threatened that those obstructing a bid by MQM to present evidence on behalf of thousands of MQM workers to a Sindh High Court inquiry tribunal would be taken to task by the people of Karachi. On Tuesday, thousands of MQM workers had thronged Sindh High Court building making it impossible for the tribunal to hold an inquiry into the May 12 incident in which at least 48 people were killed.
