When the Fire comes

Earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and now forest fires have consumed the world in this past year alone, having struck multiple times in various places throughout the world. We are living in an era marked by natural disasters. The Bible foretells that these are the beginning of birth pangs, which must take place before the Messiah’s return (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21).As earthquakes and hurricanes increase, so do the prophetic sermons from the pulpit. Yet, many fail to mention the increasing number of forest fires, which are caused by climate changes and are, in fact, a prophetic allegory. In biblical times, when a fire broke out, the inhabitants of the village started a “controlled fire” on the outskirts of their village to prevent the fire from spreading and from causing another fire to break out in the future. The village as well as t he inhabitants were saved. Controlled fires are a very common practice especially in mountainous and rural areas. Controlled fires burn away material that may be harmful and are carefully monitored by firefighters to make sure they don’t get out of control. These fires burn away the litter that is potentially flammable, anything that may lead to future disaster. The Jewish people have suffered throughout the ages more than any other nation in the world. Even today Israel has to fight for its existence. One could say that the nation of Israel is already “burnt out” and barely staying alive as it has gone through the fire.Nevertheless, there are Christians who do not believe that Jerusalem has already received double punishment for her sins, and that they should now comfort Israel and speak kindly to Jerusalem (Isaiah 40:1-2).

As in the days of Noah...
