Mark Tooley of the Institute on Religion Democracy has sharply criticized the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for its recent announcement of a partnership with the British-Muslim group called, Muslim Aid. UMCOR hopes to spend up to $15 million on joint relief project around the world.Tooley take issue with the prominent Islamic mission of Muslim aid and points out that such things as a “major initiative to help needy Muslims fulfill their “Qurbani” obligation for animal sacrifices.” Tooley explained that the “Qurbani” is the sacrifice of a small animal such as a goat, or a larger animal offered jointly with others.” According to Muslim Aid, over $1 million dollars was spent on Qurbani programs last year alone.Tooley points out that “while Muslim aid is very open about the faith that motivates its relief and development work, UMCOR, in contract, is largely silent about Jesus Christ and the Bible. No wonder there is such easy agreement between them!”http://www.thecronline.com/news_article.php?nid=2838&ndate=01/08/2007
