Poisonous sea creatures alert
Beachgoers have been warned to be on the lookout for potentially fatal Portuguese Man-of-War sea creatures. The alert was issued by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) after one was washed up at Porthmeor Beach at St Ives, west Cornwall. The creatures, normally found at the surface of the open ocean, are quite rare in British waters, with only six reported sightings since a national jellyfish survey was launched by the MCS in 2003.
