Read yesterday in a Vanity Fair piece by Hitchens about "the official racism"of the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:"a policy of exclusion"of blacks"that persisted until 1978."This led me to look up what Mormonism says about blacks,and I found some very ugly stuff at Rethinking Mormonism:Mormon Racism as doctrine,not merely folklore or tradition
Mormon scripture: God curses bad races with black skin
2 Nephi 5:2121 And the Lord had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.
Alma 3: 6 "And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men."
3 Nephi 2:14-1514 And it came to pass that those Lamanites who had united with the Nephites were numbered among the Nephites;15 And their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephites;

PS:I've read about what mormons believe about other races some time ago and I was shocked...Notice that that WEIRD belief doesn't come from the BIBLE,BUT from the Book of Mormon,so that's where the problem starts.The Book of Mormon was written by a man.The Bible is INSPIRED by the Holy Ghost.
The BIBLE says that Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary for ALL.That includes all races.The message of the Cross is for everybody.God is not respector of persons.
It's unfortunate that may be some still believe this"teachings"that were written by a man and not inspired by God,instead of believeing the BIBLE and living by it.Jesus sacrificed His Life for us ALL doesn't mind what colour of skin we may have...Praise God for that...!!!(John 3:16)
